T-Pain Presents Happy Hour the Greatest Hits Set For T-PAIN: PRESENTS HAPPY HOUR: THE GREATEST HITS SET FOR RELEASE ON NOVEMBER 4TH ALBUM WILL INCLUDE NEW SINGLE “DRANKIN PATNA” (October 16, 2014 – New York, NY) Two-time Grammy Award winner T-Pain, will release T-Pain Presents Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits on November 4, 2014 via Nappy Boy Entertainment/Konvict Muzik/RCA Records. The 13 track project will feature T-Pain’s collection of hit songs including new single, “Drankin’ Patna,” and classics such as “Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’),” “Can’t Believe It” and “I’m N Luv (Wit A Stripper)” among others. Since his debut in 2005, T-Pain has become a fixture on both the radio and sales charts releasing a total of four studio albums. To date, T-Pain has sold over 17 million digital singles as well as 2.3 million albums in the U.S. alone. In addition, the musician has a total of sixteen #1 singles and has produced and/or been featured on over 45 top ten songs. Fader recently had the following to say about the musician’s career, “T-Pain’s Auto- Tuned influenced on the last decade of music is undeniable, he’s still also a reliable creator of good jams ten years after he started.” Not to mention, “Drankin’ Patna” has also received rousing reviews with Entertainment Weekly calling the single, “a return to the joyful hedonism and bouncing strip club beats of his early hits, and it serves as a potent reminder of exactly what the pop world was missing during his time away.” T-Pain recently completed his “Drankin’ Patna” U.S. tour, which was sponsored by Moskato Life and hit 17 cities including Chicago, Atlanta and Miami. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

    ABSTRACT Get Rich or Die Tryin’: A Semiotic Approach to the Construct of Wealth in Rap Music Kristine Ann Davis, M.A. Mentor: Sara J. Stone, Ph.D. For the past 30 years, rap music has made its way into the mainstream of America, taking an increasingly prominent place in popular culture, particularly for youth, its main consumers. This thesis looks at wealth through the lens of semiotics, an important component of critical/cultural theory, using a hermeneutical analysis of 11 rap songs, spanning the last decade of rap music to find signification and representation of wealth in the rap song lyrics. The research finds three important themes of wealth - relationship between wealth and the opposite sex, wealth that garners respect from other people, and wealth as a signifier for “living the good life” - and five signifiers of wealth – money, cars, attire, liquor, and bling. Atlantic ranks #1 at Rhythmic and Urban, second at Top 40 and AC, and third at Hot AC and Mainstream Rock. Atlantic did all of this separately from sister label Lava, who actually broke the top 15 labels thanks to Gnarls Barkley and Buckcherry. Always powerful Interscope was third with 8.4%. Interscope was #1 at Alternative, second at Top 40 and Triple A, and fifth at Rhythmic. Interscope was led byAll-American Rejects, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, and Nine Inch Nails. Zomba posted a very strong fourth place showing. The label group garnered an 8.0% market share, with massive hits from Justin Timberlake, Three Days Grace, Tool and Chris Brown, along with the year’s #1 Urban AC hit from Anthony Hamilton.
