  • 1.1 Employment Sectors
    1.1 EMPLOYMENT SECTORS To realise the economic potential of the Gateway and identified strategic employment centres, the RPGs indicates that sectoral strengths need be developed and promoted. In this regard, a number of thematic development areas have been identified, the core of which are pivoted around the main growth settlements. Food, Tourism, Services, Manufacturing and Agriculture appear as the primary sectors being proffered for Meath noting that Life Sciences, ICT and Services are proffered along the M4 corridor to the south and Aviation and Logistics to the M1 Corridor to the east. However, Ireland’s top 2 exports in 2010, medical and pharmaceutical products and organic chemicals, accounted for 59% of merchandise exports by commodity group. It is considered, for example, that Navan should be promoted for medical products noting the success of Welch Allyn in particular. An analysis has been carried out by the Planning Department which examined the individual employment sectors which are presently in the county and identified certain sectoral convergences (Appendix A). This basis of this analysis was the 2011 commercial rates levied against individual premises (top 120 rated commercial premises). The analysis excluded hotels, retail, public utilities public administration (Meath County Council, OPW Trim and other decentralized Government Departments) along with the HSE NE, which includes Navan Hospital. The findings of this analysis were as follows: • Financial Services – Navan & Drogheda (essentially IDA Business Parks & Southgate Centre). • Industrial Offices / Call Centres / Headquarters – Navan, Bracetown (Clonee) & Duleek. • Food and Meath Processing – Navan, Clonee and various rural locations throughout county. • Manufacturing – Oldcastle and Kells would have a particular concentrations noting that a number of those with addresses in Oldcastle are in the surrounding rural area.

National Library of Ireland RIC Royal Irish Constabulary Page 3 of 32 Athboy Town 1000 – 1911 Athboy is situated on the western edge of the Boyne catchment area on the Athboy / Trimblestown river. Indeed its siting is possibly determined by it being a fording point on this river, which is a major tributary of the Boyne. The area map of the Boyne and Liffey catchment area (Fig. 1) suggests that all major towns in Meath are associated with their local river system. Trim and Navan both retain medieval stone bridges. O'Keefe and Simington quote the Statute Rolls of Henry VI c.1463 which states that 'divers customs to be levied on the towne of Trim, Naas, Navan, Athboy, Kells and Fore and in the franchises of said towns for the murage, pavage and repair of bridges of the said towns are greatly strengthened', suggesting that there was a bridge in Athboy at that time1 Athboy lies at Figure 1 The Boyne catchment showing the main tributaries and the western end of important towns.

About half an hour later but it was during cold and flu season so we didn’t pay they brought her out of the MRI and we were too afraid to too much attention to it. Then, she had a sinus infection even tell her. The doctor told her about the tumor, and they that was treated, but she still had headaches and was still ambulanced her to Denver. (continued on page 4) Ifeeling nauseous. She also started closing one eye. I wasn’t sure if one of her eyes was drooping or if she was closing it on purpose. When I asked her, she said that she had double vision, so we took her into urgent care. They were trying to set up a neurology appointment, but being in North Platte, the neurologist couldn’t see anyone under 18 years old and it was almost closing time. At that point I knew that something was wrong and I said to my husband, “I really think we need to go to Children’s,” and he said, “Let’s take her to the E.R. first.” We went to the emergency room and the doctor there agreed to do the MRI that night. Abbey was only in there 10 minutes before the radiologist came out and walked right past us.

    22nd Annual Chicago Irish Film Festival MAR 4—8, 2021 DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT If there was one word to describe this year’s festival, it is perspective; how do we see things and what do we really know? And looking at the elephant in the room named Covid, we all know our perspectives have changed. And when I watched this year’s program of films my perspective on a number of issues and historical events changed over and over again and I wanted to personally thank every filmmaker that afforded me the opportunity to see things in a new light: the real power of film. This year’s festival covers a wild west of topics, from the emerging art scene in 1930’s Ireland to a twist of fate and a deflected assassin’s bullet in 1936 Italy. We see all sorts of family dynamics; the good, the bad and the totally uncomfortable. There are films that will make you want to close your eyes before you jump, but you’ll look anyway and films that are so stunningly beautiful you’d like to frame the images so you never forget how magical movies can be. Of course, one of the things I most love about the festival is hanging out with our donors and sponsors, our dedicated festival goers and the wonderful filmmakers that have journeyed to Chicago each year to share their film; the true festival experience. But this year I am grateful to our streaming platform that helped us keep the festival going and will also allow this year’s amazing group of films and special partnership programs find new audiences outside our geographic footprint.

    PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY The primary schools cross country competition took place on Wednesday the 14th March in Navan Adventure Sports Centre @ 11am. This was the second year we used the Adventure Sports Centre as a venue and it proved a good choice. Given the aftermath of the Beast from the East and storm Emma the course was relatively dry and in good condition for the competition. The weather wasn’t cooperating but that didn’t stop the 900 children and 22 primary schools who came to compete. Our thanks goes to Darren and the crew at Navan Adventure Sports Centre for the use of their grounds also to all those from various Meath athletics clubs who helped with erecting and taking down the course and the running of the event.     APPENDIX 11 NATIONAL MONUMENTS IN STATE CARE & REGISTER OF HISTORIC MONUMENTS National Monuments in State Care National monuments in State care include those which are in the ownership or guardianship of the Minister for Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht (DAHG). Other owners of national monuments are empowered under Section 5 of the National Monuments Act (1930) to appoint the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government as guardian of such monuments. This means in effect that while the property of such a monument remains vested in the owner, its maintenance and upkeep are the responsibility of the State. A partnership of the National Monument Services of the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and the Office of Public Works, looks after the national monuments in State care. The conservation and presentation of these monuments is project managed by the OPW with responsibility for the archaeological aspects of projects resting with DAHG. The consent of the Minister for the Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht is required for any works at or in proximity to national monuments in State care. Monuments may also be defined as national monuments if they are in the ownership or guardianship of Local Authorities who have similar responsibilities under the National Monuments Acts (1930-2004) to DAHG. These monuments are not included in the list below. To view a list of monuments in state care go to www.archaeology.ie. Not all monuments in State care are open or accessible to the public.
