Although you may be able to download the files from various sources, it's recommended to get the files from an old computer. If you don't have a Windows XP device, then an alternative option includes creating a virtual machine to extract the files. If you don't have an installation media, you can download the ISO using an MSDN subscription. Finding classic Solitaire files on Windows XP. If you're using an old computer or virtual machine running Windows XP, use these steps to download the files on to a USB drive: Open Windows Explorer . Click on My Computer in the left pane. In the address bar, type the following path and press Enter : Click the All files and folders option in the left pane. Type the following search query and click the Search button: Right-click the selection and select the Copy option. Once you've completed the steps, you need to bring the files to your Windows 10 device. Installing classic Solitaire on Windows 10. To set up the Windows XP Solitaire game on Windows 10, connect the USB flash drive with the files and use these steps: Open File Explorer . Click on This PC in the left pane. Next, deal a card face up on the second pile, then one more in each pile facing down. Continue in this fashion, dealing one less card each time, until you have seven piles that start on the left with one card and increase by one card with each column from left to right. The top card on each pile is facing up. Each time an Ace appears face up, place it in a row at the top. These are the foundations. The remaining 24 cards are placed in the top left of the game screen as a stock pile you can draw from when you need additional cards. How to Play Classic Solitaire. The columns in a game of Classic Solitaire are the tableau. They are the primary play area of the game. You are attempting to move cards from the columns into the foundations on the top right of the game screen. Each foundation must be built up by suit and sequence from Ace to the King. Move any cards you can to the foundations. On the tableau you can build on the face up cards, building down in alternating colors. In order to move a card in a column, it must be turned face up. To turn a card face up, it must become the bottom card in the column, so all the cards below the face down card must be moved into a different column. Every time you move a face up card, you turn up the card beneath it. When there are on more face down cards in a pile and you move the face up card, you can fill the space with an available King. After dealing, the Stock Pile is what remains of the deck after the cards forming the Tableau. You can deal cards one at a time face up. Once you have dealt out all the cards, you can reset the stock pile. There is not a limit to the number of times you can deal out the cards. Winning. The goal of Classic Solitaire is to build all the cards on to the foundations at the top of the game screen. All cards must be face up in the suit piles to win. The objective of this thesis was to study Klondike solitaire solvability from the game design point of view. The purpose of this thesis was to develop a solitaire prototype and use it as a testbed to study the solvability of Klondike. The theoretical section explores the card game literature and the academic studies on the solvability of Klondike solitaire. Furthermore, Klondike solitaire rule variations and the game mechanics are analysed. In the practical section a Klondike game prototype was developed using Unity game engine. A new fast recursive method was developed which can detect 2.24% of random card configurations as unsolvable without simulating any moves. The study indicates that determining the solvability of Klondike is a computationally complex NP-complete problem. Earlier studies proved empirically that approximately 82% of the card configurations are solvable. The method developed in this thesis could detect over 12% of the unsolvable card configurations without making any moves. The method can be used to narrow the search space of brute-force searches and applied to other problems. Analytical research on Klondike solvability is called for because the optimal strategy is still not known.

Abstract Reverse engineering is an important process employed by both attackers seeking to gain entry to a system as well as the security engineers that protect it. While there are numerous tools developed for this purpose, they often can be tedious to use and rely on prior obtained domain knowledge. After examining a number of contemporary tools, we design and implement a de-noising tool that reduces the human effort needed to perform reverse engineering. The tool takes snapshots of a target program’s memory as the user consistently interacts with it. By comparing changes across multiple sets of snapshots, consistent changes in memory that could be attributed to the user action are identified. We go on to demonstrate its use on three Windows applications: Minesweeper, Solitaire and Notepad++. Through assistance from the de-noising tool, we were able to discover information such as the location of mines and values of cards in these two games before they are revealed, and the data structure used for input to Notepad++.
