PREFACE

1 have great pleasure in presenting here the report on use~ to which census houses are put and the physically handicapped population. Information on these items was collected during the househsting operation. The houselisting operation preceeds each census and is a sina qua non for the preparation Of a frame to organise the enumeration operation. For the 1981 Census, it was conducted from September to December, 198') in this state. After collecting the houselists from the field, the data for physically handicapped was lnanually tabulated on a full count basis in this office while the rest of infor mation in houselists was edited and coded in this office and sent to the office of the Registrar General, India where tabulation of Table H-I (uses to which census houses are put) was produced on the computer. These two tabula tions have been utilised in preparing this report.

1 am grateful to the Registrar General, ·lndia Shri P. Padmanabha for his guidance and encouragement. My thanks are also due to the Data Proces sing Division of the office of the Registrar General, India for Table H-I. I am also grateful to Shri K. ~. Chakravorty, Deputy Registrar General, India and officers of the Central Tabulation unit of the office of the Registrar General, India for clearing this report with expedition.
