The L ghthouse Vol. XXVIII, No. 7 Lyndhurst High School May 2015 Artistic talents Schoolwear takes on new look revealed at Eighth Annual Arts Fest By Julie Pacillo

The gym and senior hallway were transformed on April 17 for the Eighth Annual Arts Fest, when student art, photogra- phy, computer projects, poetry and writing was displayed for the district’s enjoyment. Grades K-12 contributed to the event, which featured per- formances from the chorale, jazz band and poetry slam win- ners. The event began during fourth block with high school stu- dents coming to tour the gym in 40 minute intervals. When the Arts Fest continued in the evening, K-8 students followed in the high schoolers’ footsteps with presentations of their art in senior hallway. This is the third consecutive year the Arts Fest was districtwide. Chorale Singer and Spring Poetry Slam Participant Ju- nior Jose Rodriguez said the Arts Fest advances creativity and allows students to express themselves in new ways. He presented his third place award winning poem, “The Joke,” during the afternoon and evening sessions. “With my art, I was trying to get the message across that bullying is wrong, and this is something that I wouldn’t nor- mally use my voice to do,” Rodriguez said. “Instead of going up on stage and trying to say something, it is easier to create something, put it on display and share the same message.” For Sophomore Angelica Santomauro, this year marked her first time being involved in an LHS art showcase.
