Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku: Developing Ghana’s banking system Speech by Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, at the inauguration of the Sunyani regional office building, Sunyani, 30 June 2016. * * * Nananom Board of Directors of Bank of Ghana Representatives of Banks in the Brong-Ahafo Region Representatives of Security Agencies in the Brong -Ahafo Region Heads of Departments Regional Managers My cherished members of staff Distinguished ladies and gentlemen Good morning I am delighted to welcome you all to the inauguration of our new Sunyani Regional Office building. Let me sincerely thank the Chiefs and people of Sunyani, in fact, the Brong Ahafo Region for making the land available to us. This is a clear indication of the support and collaboration between the Bank and the Chiefs. And let me also take this opportunity to thank the immediate past Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah for spearheading this project and seeing to its completion. As we may all be aware, prior to the construction of this ultra-modern office complex, the Sunyani Regional Office had operated from the second floor of a building whose lower floors were occupied by GCB Bank. The regulator sharing office with the client is not ethically sound and exposes the Bank to familiarity threats. In addition, the former Office did not have a banknote processing capacity and depended on the Kumasi Regional Office for the processing of its deposits as well as fit-sorting banknotes for re-issuance to banks and other financial institutions in its catchment area. -

MEDIA RELEASE SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS FURTHER STRENGTHENS SERVICE TO ACCRA, GHANA WITH DAILY NONSTOP FLIGHTS FROM THE U.S. Fort Lauderdale, FL (August 8, 2019) – South African Airways (SAA), Africa’s most awarded airline, will increase its frequency on nonstop flights between Washington, D.C.-Dulles International Airport and Accra’s Kotoka International Airport to a daily service effective September 5, 2019. SAA will be the only airline to offer daily nonstop flights between the United States of America and Ghana and will offer travelers convenient connections to and from over 100 cities across the U.S. and Canada through its Star Alliance partner, United Airlines via Washington, D.C.-Dulles. “We are very excited to be the only airline to provide a daily nonstop flight between Washington D.C. and Ghana,” said Todd Neuman, executive vice president, North America for South African Airways. “There is a large Ghanaian community in the metropolitan Washington, D.C area, as well as significant business opportunities between the two countries. Additionally, Ghana is brimming with beautiful beaches, a vibrant culture, and has been a true pioneer in eco-tourism We look forward to flying North American travelers to this amazing destination every day of the week.” SAA’s increase of flights on the route will also serve to support the partnership with Africa World Airlines by offering seamless connections between Accra and additional destinations in West Africa including; Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria; Monrovia, Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone. SAA’s flights between Washington-Dulles and Accra will be operated with both the Airbus A330-300 and the Airbus A330-200 aircraft. -

Kumekpor ii PREFACE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT There cannot be any meaningful developmental activity without taking into account the characteristics of the population for whom the activity is targeted. The size of the population and its spatial distribution, growth and change over time, and socio-economic characteristics are all important in development planning. The Kilimanjaro Programme of Action on Population adopted by African countries in 1984 stressed the need for population to be considered as a key factor in the formulation of development strategies and plans. A population census is the most important source of data on the population in a country. It provides information on the size, composition, growth and distribution of the population at the national and sub-national levels. Data from the 2010 Population and Housing Census (PHC) will serve as reference for equitable distribution of resources, government services and the allocation of government funds among various regions and districts for education, health and other social services. The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is delighted to provide data users with an analytical report on the 2010 PHC at the regional level to facilitate planning and decision-making. This follows the publication of the National Analytical Report in May, 2013 which contained information on the 2010 PHC at the national level with regional comparisons. Conclusions and recommendations from these reports are expected to serve as a basis for improving the quality of life of Ghanaians through evidence-based policy formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation of developmental goals and intervention programs. -

Understanding a definite geographic context is essential for effective air transport management. To date, the consequences of changing weather conditions and climate on the transportation sector in Ghana has been grievous to the economy of the country. Unfortunately, the impact of climate change on the aviation industry has re- ceived very little attention in Ghanaian literature. Meanwhile, it is widely known that transport systems on the whole perform poorly under adverse weather and climatic conditions. This paper seeks to reflect a growing orientation in research and philosophy in the field of air transport and severe weather and climatic constraints. Understanding under- lying principles of climatic conditions and weather is essential to air navigation in Ghana. Clear air turbulence, ceiling and visibility, thunderstorms, electrical phenomenon, climate-induced seasonal variations, and vegetation are some of the threats to air transport across Ghana’s airspace. Information is derived from literature surveys, workplace counts, and an aviation researcher.
