Suddenly I saw one of the Iraqi tanks picking up from the other side and firing. The bullets hit in front of me. I rotated two and three meters on the air and hit the ground. My head became heavy. First I felt my head was separated from my body and because my body’s warm I can’t understand! The strange dust was dissipated. My signaler, called Jajarm, raised his voice and said, “Haji has not been martyred! Guys, go ahead. Haji has taken just a scratch. He gets up now and comes.” Suddenly, I saw Mr. Sadeghi and the battalion destroyer standing beside me. 13 Title: The Leg which has been Left Author: Seyyed Naser Husseinipour Subject: Non-Fiction (Memory) Year of Publishing: 2017 / 62th Edition No. of Pages: 767/Hardback Size: 14 × 22 ISBN: 9786001752247 Awards:• The book was honored by the supreme leader of Iran. about book

As soon as we were allowed to leave, like a bird released from a cage, we did not wait for a left sheet, and we came out with loose clothes. The bright sunlight did not allow blinking. We just sat in a corner inevitably in order that our eyes got accustomed to the light. Before a nurse saw and a doctor noticed us, we should go and sneak away. My hand in my friend’s hand and another hand on the wall, we went gropingly. It was a red situation and the siren sound was heard. We couldn’t see and we didn’t have a shelter. We trusted in God and continued on. The city was silent and slow. Only occasionally the sound of a car was heard but was lost very soon. There was no one to take our hands and take us to a safe place. O, God! Oh, helper the defenseless and the chemical injured! Witness the innocence of your blind servants and take care of us. The book «Barefoot War» is a narrative of the war, the warriors who stood against armed to teeth enemy and bend over backward. In return to home, they get bored of the materiality of the society and continue to live in their huts against palaces of the rich in the lap of luxury. In his memoirs, the writer quotes the pain of those who have provided youth, health, and well-being, of themselves and their families for the Islamic revolution, but in return, they are subject to unkindness. In his memoirs, he described surrounding of warriors by Iraqi forces, breaking the surround with the sacrifice of one of the warriors, the martyrdom of the commander of the battalion, the situation of the wounded, the warming up, retreating, the situation and condition of all his companions in the combat operation, and their efforts and the memory of his companion martyrs. In the end, he speaks of his return to Tehran after accepting Resolution 598 and his normal life as a teacher. This book has 24 stories and at the beginning of each story, there is a verse from the Quran that is related to the story. The writer portrays beautifully the hard life of the barefoot warriors alongside the colorful swampy life of the rich. The book is a reflection of the suffering of barefooted people, which, in comparison to the sacrifice of them, seems to be painful, bitter and unacceptable. In other narratives of this front, the most prominent and sweet thing is the humility and neglecting their works against the work of others who have tried and wore on other fronts but against the same enemy and for the love of God. Although the danger is not the same in all fields, they should not consider all those who were not present in the front as earthly people with earthy attachments, and they should not le the others down because of the trouble and suffering that they themselves have born for the sake of God. These traits are pure and the righteous. The book “Barefoot War” is written in 23 the form of daily notes, but relies on narrative-fiction techniques. book excerpt

Here is Aqaba battalion. The main bath is here. Every day, the food car brings a number of guys to bathe here. Meanwhile, the reserve troop rests here. It is said that groups of Tehran citizens have come to visit the fronts, and a group will come here today. It is said that some chefs have also come to cook a meal for warriors. Today the goods truck has also come. The truck was full of the granted goods from the prayers of the Mosque in Tehran. Mousapour has brought lemon juice and black shawls for the battalion. Muharram in this year will be held in the hearts of the guys because the community behind the frontline is problematic. Mr. Seyyed and Mr. Mustafa are still looking for handling the cars and facilities of the battalion. The ambulance has still problems. Some people come and say, «They came!» Guys come out of the shed to welcome them. The procurement guys have made a beverage. The white roof of the bus emerges from the top of the embankment of the headquarters. The bus crawls slowly, passes through the interval between the two embankments, called the entrance door, and enters the headquarters. On a dusty bus, there is a cloth on which it says, “Pilgrimage Caravan of Light Fronts against Darkness; Workers of Shahr-e Rey Textile Factory». The shine of joy sprouts in the eyes of everyone, because all the barefoot are coming. Among these barefoot people, everyone has a friend, and my friend at Shahr-e Rey Textile Factory is “Mashhadi Ali”, father of Morteza. Morteza is my closet friend. He is the man of the front. This book is a collection of 93 pieces of notes and manuscripts by the martyr Ahmad Reza Ahadi, a second-year medical student of the martyr Beheshti University, organized in 4 chapters. Chapter 4 includes retrieved notes that have been added in the second edition of the work. The detailed introduction of the book includes the story of the martyr Ahadi, the procedure of collecting and compiling the work, and examining and describing the content of these pieces. The martyr Ahmad Reza Ahadi›s academic education and his mastery in the literature of Iran and the world distinguish this work from other works in the field of Holy Defense literature. The poetic language and eloquent style of the writer have granted a poetic flavor to the war and the use of Persian poetic and classical poems has contributed greatly to the literary richness of these manuscripts. The chapter «Jean Valjean, the Statue of Battle with Life» is one of the most influential parts of the book. By interpreting Victor Hugo›s novel “The Miserable” and outlining its worthwhile points, Ahadi interprets life. In the following, he refers to a verse from the Quran to prove that values have been the same throughout history, and the geographical conditions and the determinism of the time have changed values. He links the war with world literature and globalizes his words, and by addressing the details of the Holy Defense and the poetic description of concepts such as war, martyrdom, friendship, loneliness, motherhood and the appropriate use of scientific concepts of mathematics and physics, he acquaints the reader with lesser-known people and attitudes in the war. The narrator of the story of the war in this book is a powerful poet who prays in seclusion with his God and links earthly concepts with 27 his heavenly view. book excerpt

Tonight, the sound of the Iraqi mortar shell bursts is not stopped even for a moment. Apparently, the mercenary Ba›athists has provided the basis for a massive attack. The sky of the salt lake is not empty of flares for a moment. The rain of the Iraqi mortar shells and Katiushas with their breathtaking voice can hold everyone calm; but if the enemy shells every spot of the lake, it cannot do anything. Seyyedeh Zahra Husseini (narrator) is an Iranian Kurd whose parents lived in Iraq before her birth. After she was born, her family returned to Iran, and his father settled in and after a long time wandered, he was hired as a dustman in the municipality. She, along with his older brother, Ali, participated in the activities of the revolution and afterwards. For help and service, she chose the graveyard and burial and funeral of martyrs of war. On the first day, she becomes weak and faint. One of the peaks of the story is when she puts his martyred father in the grave and gave farewell to him. 7 days later, she put his older brother, who was also martyred, in the grave and gave farewell to him, a brother who had a lot of potential and actual abilities and was a favorite of the family. She hides her brother›s death from her mother to take her mother out of the city. She becomes a rescuer and fought the Ba›athist enemy with two guys of her age until she was injured at the front line and sent to the hospital. From then on, she recounts the problems of war refugees and treachery during the war. The book “Da” is the memoirs of Seyyedeh Zahra Husseini from the war and the situation in Khorramshahr during the early days of the war, a 17-year-old girl whose life changes at the beginning of the war. It is a believable narrative, with a unique setting, so that readers see themselves on the streets of Khorramshahr. What inspires the reader›s respect and admiration is that the narrator does things that others refuse to do or underestimate them. «Da» means «mother» in the local dialect and by selecting this title Ms. Husseini wanted to remind suffering, sadness, effort, and resistance of Iranian mothers. The book provides an overview of the duration of the war and the situation of the refugees in different cities. The language and the text of the book are relevant to the subject matter and it is fluent. What makes this book unique is the expression of angles of the war that have never been addressed before. A soldier, after 11 years, wrote a letter to an Iraqi soldier, stating that their son, who had been a member of the Special Forces-23 of the Iraqi Presidential Guards, while escaping, was killed by their own forces and the Iranian soldier buried him, and he had saved the Iranian soldier while Iraqi forces were shooting. The stories of this book are all realistic and have been narrated in two ways: one is by quotation or in the form of a second singular, and the other is the first person sometimes expressed as a dramatic soliloquy. Another feature of some of these stories is that they are narrative. In these stories, humans are equal in terms of individuality and position on both sides of the war. Ahmadzadeh is trying to create people who, apart from the political ideas and military conditions that put them against each other, have chosen humanity in their bottlenecks to overcome this difficult path. In this collection, we have come up with a unique writing style by Ahmadzadeh; using short, but uninterrupted sentences that connect with each other using simple conjunctions. This writing style, with suspense and excitement, brings the reader. Stories have concepts and thoughts other than the apparent subject, and they contain a simple and fluent prose and language. Themes are the other outstanding points of these stories. Also, the titles of some of the stories are worth attention, like “Thirty Nine and One Internees” and “Eagle’s Feather”, which can clarify the story for a typical audience who has not understood the underlying layer of the story. One of the other privileges of these stories is the plot of the stories, which have turned into a script because of their strong idea. The book “War City Stories” contains 8 short stories and their titles are: Eagle›s Feather - Airplane - Thirty-Nine and One Internees - Warrior Escape - A Letter to Saad›s Family - If There Was Not Darya Gholi - I Will Endure the Weight of This Load to the End - The Letter to the 39 Writer to the American Military and Their Response.

At the beginning of the story, the narrator›s childhood days are narrated in her village. She was named “Ghadam Kheir” because she brought luckiness, and she was deeply concerned by her parents, Haji Agha and Shirin Jan, and she is more interested in her father than everybody. This interest made her not willing to get married and she was trying to get rid of marriage anyway. But the presence of Samad and his proposal to “Ghadam Kheir” and the mediation of the neighborhood elders suddenly bring this favorite teen girl to a much deeper and wider world than her children›s home. Before marrying Samad (whose original name is «Sattar»), Ghadam Kheir flees, again and again, his look, as if from the very beginning, separation and desolation have been destined in their fate. Samad joined military service. After marrying, he traveled from the village to Tehran for working but returned for a few days. Shortly thereafter, the Revolution of 1979 and the uprising of the people distanced between them. Then the war began and eventually the martyrdom separated them until Ghadam Kheir’s death. As if from the very beginning of her marriage, Ghadam Kheir had gone to her solitude home. In the various parts of the book, we observe her worry and impatience. However, she seems she has accepted her fate, accepted Samad’s absences and bad promises in the critical moments of her life, including the births of her children, although sometimes the life pressure comes out of her bearing, but for the sake of her children, she is resistant and firm and takes her life steering in the stormy ocean of the fate. The book “Daughter of Shina” is the memories of Ghadam Kheir Muhammadi, the wife of Martyr Sattar Ebrahimi. This book is the story of the love life of a rural girl living in the days of the war, and despite belonging to the literature of resistance and war, it is a work 43 that narrates life with all its hardships and pleasures. book excerpt

I went to the kitchen. I turned on the water heater. He came and started telling, “The Iraqis have entered Khorramshahr. Khorramshahr has declined. We have had very martyrs. Abadan is surrounded by Iraqis and is under shots and mortars every day.”

I asked. “Did you eat dinner?” He said, “No, I have no appetite.” Some of the lunch had remained. I heated it for him. I spread out the tablecloth and put a bowl of yogurt and a plate of vegetables that the landlord had brought in the evening on the tablecloth, and served the meal for him. It was some Eshkeneh(Iranian meal). When he ate a little, his eyes became red. I asked, “Is it hot?” He pointed out “No”, and he stopped eating. She put the spoon in the bowl and started crying. I asked worriedly, “What happened? What’s wrong?” I could not believe Samad was crying. He covered his face with his hands and was weeping. I said, “You’re killing me! Tell me what happened?” He said, «How can I eat? The guys are hungry at the border. They are stuck under fire of shots and tanks of the Ba›athists! They don›t even have a gun to fight. I wish you say what you do once for all! Are you the Quran teacher? Study ? Or are you Basiji? Mother talked to Mahmud in her mind. She asked, but did not hear any answer. Every time she saw him, her eyes illuminated and she smiled, but she was still worried about him in her heart. Thinking of seeing him leave tortured her. She became nervous and went standing in the yard with Quran and Espand . But this time, she wasn’t in the mood like previous times. She sat near the pool. She lingered and waited for Mahmud. But again she couldn’t tolerate. Her eyes fell on the plastic watering pot. She got up and wrapped her hands around the plastic watering pot hand, and watered the flower pots in the yard. But again she drowned in Mahmud’s imagination. Her restless minds reviewed childhood and adolescence of her son. Purl of water which was overflowing a pot and pouring on the stairs, brought her back to reality. The writer of the present book, with his wit (sagacity) and with the thrill of an adventurous drama, tells the story of an Iranian commander’s wife after his capture by the enemy. He artistically portrays the objective role of the sensation of an Iranian woman and introduces her with all his integrity and gives an elaborate look to the unimaginable subtleties of a human being. Nevertheless, parts of the values of this book are straightforwardness and honesty of the main character of the book - Mrs. Manizheh Lashkari – the wife of martyr Hussein Lashkari. The book, «The Days of No Mirror» appears to be seemingly low-volume, but this small volume is the result of a sophisticated and uncomplicated example. The author without delaying the reader in the twilight of the frivolous eraser leaves him so entertained on the margins. It is typical of this writer to go directly to the main point and result, without beating around the bush. Perhaps this feature has caused the emotional connection between the words and the reader to begin from the very first lines and clears the mind and soul of the reader with emotions. The very first lines fill the reader’s mind with so much pure sensations that the reader while finishing the book with wet eyes, still his mind is involved with the adventures of the book›s character, while looking differently at those with a similar condition and 55 similar state of affairs.

Mahmoud Shirafkan is one of the brave Iranian commanders who showed great courage in the war. When he was a teenager, he went voluntarily to the war front. But after a while, with showing courage and competence, he became the deputy of the commander. The description of his memoir in war zones includes several important chapters of the book. The stability of the combatants against the enemy is mentioned in detail in these chapters, by reading which, effective scenes are created in the reader›s mind, such as the scene of a brave young man who resists so much with the shotgun against the Iraqis that ultimately a tank bullet targeted his head and he was martyred. The memory of the moment of martyrdom and the prostration of the body without the head of this martyr is one of the most shocking memories that have been narrated since the Holy Defense Years. In the sequel, almost every chapter describes the memories of an operation. The initial and general procedure of the book is also preserved in the last chapter because by quoting the final days of the war, the memories are also over, and there is no longer any mention of the situation of this warrior after the Holy Defense days. The structural, linguistic and formal features of the book «The Earth Groans,» has made it into one of the most successful works in the field of the memorial writing of the Holy Defense. Authenticity, honesty, daring, purity of word and memories of the narrator of the book, Mahmoud Shirafkan, and the acquaintance of the story narrator with the techniques of fiction are two categories that by utilizing them this book will be considered as a good work. The ability of the narrator and author to create the identification with the reader is one of the features of the book. This work is one of the works that is remarkable for the credibility of documentary and historical memories, as well as good 59 literary processing. book excerpt

When we woke up for the Morning Prayer, we saw that the enemy was strangely firing, just as it was going to start an operation. Seyyed Abbas and I prayed in the same stronghold. I had not gotten up from the place that I noticed that one of the warriors, who was 15 years old and was lying on a corner of the stronghold, had just one hand and the blood spouted through his cut arm. He was shocked that what was done! He was still sleepy. We jumped and went toward him. I took my Keffiyeh off my neck and wrapped it around his arm, and while he was moaning, I said, “Can you walk?” He said with Mashhadi accent, “Yeah, I can.” - So, get up! Do not wait, go back, and go to line 3. An ambulance will come to take you. He got up and set off.

Title: Chess with Resurrection Car Author: Habib Ahmadzadeh Subject: Fiction (Novel) Year of Publishing: 2017 / 22th Edition No. of Pages: 342/Paperback Size: 14 × 22 ISBN: 9789645061553 about book

The novel “Chess with Resurrection Car” is about three days of the life of a seventeen-year-old in a city surrounded by Iraqis. He is the watch of the artillery, but contrary to his inner will, he is responsible for the food truck, and he must give food to the warriors, and give food to three of the strange people who did not leave the city. The Iraqis are equipped with advanced radar system and he is looking for it. This radar system is the Resurrection Car that the writer for finding it, referring to three parts of the Quran, the Gospel, and the Torah, recalls the philosophy of human creation and his life in the hereafter, from the perspective of a teenage, a prostitute from the Shah›s period, and a retired engineer of Abadan Refinery, who are a combination of guilt and innocence, simplicity and cunning and sanctity and disbelief. This teenager, who is the narrator of the story, is actually on the border between puberty and childhood. Although his military brain has grown well, many of his actions do not have the necessary maturity. For example, he is very talkative even about the military secrets, or he has a childish pride because he is a watch. In this difficult situation, this character learns things that he cannot handle under normal circumstances. This teenager does not have a name in the whole story and only has a wireless code as «Moses», which may be an allegory of the story of Moses and Khidr. His commander (Qasem) is, in fact, Khidr, his leader, who pushes him into the community to try and make mistakes and learn. “Chess with Resurrection Car” has a new and innovative look at the Holy Defense theme, which suggests that Holy Defense has created the grounds for the growth of a generation. In this story, there are different characters that have different beliefs and religions. Another key character is the story is the «engineer», an experienced engineer of the Oil Company, who now lives on the third floor of a seven-storied building with his cats. He is a person, who during the story has a chameleon character, and war and its reason are nonsense for him, and he believes that it was God›s disdain to bring the man to the earth and create this trouble for him. In fact, we hear the ambiguities that 63 this watch teenager›s minds do not understand from the words of the engineer and he is the source of doubt for the watch. The interaction between the engineer and the teenager, in general, shows the importance of performance and movement, not what happens. The novel «Chess with Resurrection Car» is Ahmadzadeh›s second most dramatic work, which is in the category of classical works, since it works is aligned with all elements in the dominant thinking of the novel, which is the belief in the Macro narrative. «Chess with Resurrection Car» is a novel that portrays emotions, feelings, reasons, conflicts, and adolescent thinking in the context of war. This novel is accompanied by parts of the Torah (the Creator Bible), the Gospel (Matthew), and the Holy Qur›an (Takvir Surah). In addition to his mission narration, the narrator of the novel also channeled to his past, which has led to the creation of a fluid atmosphere in the story and narrative.» Habib Ahmadzadeh (1964-Abadan) About the Author: Habib Ahmadzadeh, an Iranian novelist, documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, assistant director and researcher, is an MA in dramatic literature from Tehran Art University and a Ph.D. in Art Research at Tarbiat Modares University. One of the interesting points of this book is its end when this physician joins Iran›s warriors and provides some interesting and notable information on the situation of Iraqi siege in Khorramshahr. The book is set in 14 chapters. In the book, referring to the early years of the war and the historical debate about the problem of the earth and water border between the two countries, the writer deals with the reasons of this war, called «the old problem» at the beginning of the book. An Iranian officer asked me in English about Khorramshahr. I also replied in English that all Iraqi forces were besieged and will come to you at noon on God’s will. Then he asked me, “You attained victory at the beginning of the war, how did you get into this situation??» I shook my head and said, ”.ان ینصرکــم اهلل فــا غالــب لکمــو ان یخذلکــم فمــن ذاالــذی ینصرکــم مــن بعــده“ I was only seven kilometers away from the shocking events in a country that until that day was a strange riddle to me. The great dictator did not flood against religion in just one day. His people did not come from a strange place. His people may have been parents of today’s the narrow-minded, but they were part of the body of this nation as well. Someone like Seyyed Mehdi who became accepted by Haj Hassan Agha, the liturgist of Turks based on the principle of «like father like son». Although he was not into prayer and fasting, and for the sake of recruitment, he was cursed by the people (and Haji did not know), but from the time of Haj Hassan Agha to the present, some people do not know that these days “like father like son” is not true anymore. So long before Seyyed Mehdi entered the house, he had entered the house over the wall with light like thieves. From the very day that Gollar (the character of the story) took the berry tray for next door neighbor, and instead of a regular servant, a young man opened the door. He had a military uniform and a curious look. The man did not take the berry tray from her, only carefully and elegantly, he picked up roses over the berries and smelt them, with a gentle smile that was hidden under his fair mustache! Gollar pressed her teeth on her Chador and covered her face with it, and the tray fell off her hand at that moment. The present book contains a great novel narrating in eleven chapters. Although the novel is apparently a historical novel, the author does not have a history concern, but he is looking for a social reflection of a historical period. The story is extremely emotional and poetic, and at the same time, it proceeds with a very fast rhythm, without edges and deviations, so that the reader should pay full attention to avoid missing the events. Perhaps for this reason, some of the critics have evaluated the story as crowded, but Armin could solve criticism by lengthening the story vainly and tiring readers, but thankfully, she did not do that. She also repeats several pieces of poetry based on the story. She repeats “I Wish There Was No Red Rose” in this story. The writer draws the story of the characters from time to time. The story moves between the time of its narration and its past, a fascinating and creative movement that somehow makes the writer of this book a stylish and an inspiration other writers. 71 book excerpt

This was Mehdi›s order to go to the party without a cover on the head: - But if my father realizes, he will die of grief! If he hadn’t died already! - Discard the words of Kolsum Naneh. If you want to follow them, you should live in the old times! Gollar, my darling, our fathers don’t want to accept the world had been changed. - But I’m ashamed. I’m shaking just thinking about it. He was looking at the snowflakes that came down. He said, “In your opinion, is a Muslim girl who has been acting to her beliefs for many years, ready to …” He looked at me and paused a little. He seemed to seek words to complete his speech. When he did not find anything, he shook his hand and said, “Do you understand?” I said, “Well, it depends. But if that girl is not realistic, she would understand that you ...” I looked at him. He looked at me. Now I was waiting for him to say something. He stood up, arranged his coat collar and said calmly and seriously, “What if that girl is Negar?” - Me? I stepped back. The book “The Blessed Army” is fictional memories of one of the Azerbaijani warriors. Alongside finding the path to the depths of human relationships, readers of this book can assess the confrontation of warriors with memories and incidents, and alongside review, a part of the unsaid about the war from the language of an intelligent force. The narrator of the memoir in his narrative looked at the war not from the perspective of memory, but sometimes from the eyes of a critic, and maybe it would be a new step in understanding the various angles of the eight-year-old battle of the Iranian people. The book begins with the fever of the first character, Mehdigholi Rezaei, on the way to the front lines, manipulating the birth certificate, the days and nights of the bases and mosques of those days, and being dispatched them to the battlefields. The author of the book became acquainted with the areas and operations using available maps, and then, in the maps and detailed explanations that he receives from the narrator for his questions, he is so justified as if he lives at that time and on that earth. This is also the reason for writing a more detailed and precise text of the war. In all circumstances, he seeks to explore the humanitarian situations of warriors. In the same vein, brilliant papers of diver warriors are created, who were models of courage and faith throughout the war. “The Blessed Army” is a fascinating report of this great event, which, in the words of the brave warriors and an intelligence member, recounts the unsaid angles of the Holy Defense history. In this book, the writer’s tangible and effective characterizations of the story›s hero (Mehdigholi Rezaei) portrays a teenage character who, with earnestness, determination and sympathy, experience the hardest and most dangerous moments of the incident and epic fields, and wounded and injured from every mission and operation, and these wounds and 83 injuries are still with him. book excerpt

How could Karim and Dostali, who were my age, go the front, but I wasn’t accepted? Why doesn’t the summer end? That night was the hottest night of my life. The weather was warm; incidentally, a few clouds were wandering in the sky. I was moving in bed and did not know what to do. I could not believe that I returned result less from the Basij registration site. It means I still have to content to the alley and school and the mosque, and only my work is to guard at night in the alleys saying “Turn off the lights”. I passed that nigh to the morning with restlessness and did not say to anyone that I was rejected at the Basij registration site. My brother›s strong hand, Hassan, pulled me out of the line that ended up to the bus. All of my anxiety and passion for dispatching passed over my mind in a moment. The book, «Medal and Vacation,» includes eleven notes containing bitter and sweet memories of a Ba›athist internee. Reading the memoirs from the language of a Ba’athist, the kind of their look at the Iranian forces and the courage and bravery of Iranian warriors and heroes is remarkable. This Ba›athist internee, in his notes, referring to the crimes of some Ba›athist soldiers against Iranian soldiers, endorses the savagery of the Ba›ath regime forces and knows some of the scenes of the war as the Karbala incident. So far, many books on war memories have been published, but the book “Medal and Leave” has changed the angle of view, depicting the Iran-Iraq war from the enemy›s embankments. The book is very brief, but reading short memories of a Ba›athist internee who has not been named in his book on his own request, is an affirmation of the courage and sacrifice of Iranian soldiers during the eight years of the Holy Defense. Changing the angle of view and observing the battle from the perspective of the two sides will make human aspects more visible in the literature of war. The present book is a collection of fictional narrative memories of a Ba›athist internee. In this book by a soldier from the Ba›athist regime talks about some Islamic warriors who penetrated into the enemy at nights out of the enemy›s eye and detected dozens of enemy’s secret missions and reported to the Islamic warriors or penetrated among the enemy and delayed their attacks. The soldier of the Ba›athist regime sees how the snow and wind, and the deadly cold, can defeat the enemy, joins the warriors of Islam after observing the fulfillment God’s 87 promises and futility in their battles. book excerpt

The second friend›s arrogance was more than the first. He felt proud of some Iranian banknotes and an identification card that he had earned after tearing clothes out of an Iranian bloodthirsty body and leaving him half-naked. I am not exaggerating if I say that his words depicted one of the scenes of the event of Karbala in front of my eyes, and once again it displayed that event on the history screen. According to the officers, they were heroes and were more deserving in receiving medals and attention and appreciation than others. They also were more deserving to take leaves, which began tonight after sixty days. In addition, three days were added to their leaves for getting courage badges. With the onset of the war, he wanted to set off the front, but he was not accepted because of his young age. He repeatedly and repeatedly proceeded, until he finally succeeded. When he set off the war zone, his younger brother, Sadegh, went along with him and was martyred in a bombardment of the Iraqi air strike against the eyes of Nooraddin. Twenty-four shrapnel shells struck the body of Nooraddin. He participated in many operations and was repeatedly wounded and, although he had 70% disability, he returned to the front every time after a relative recovery. At age 18, his face is completely lost its shape due to severe injuries and surgeries. The history of the fight for the Islamic Revolution of Iran is fullof memories of bitter and sweet incidents; the formation, changes and rise and fall of groups; motivation for the fight, escapes, arrests, and tortures; resistance under barbaric torture, and so on. One of the most prominent of these cases is the memoirs of Ezzatollah Motahari that are published in a book called Ezzat Shahi Memoirs. The book is a collection of memoirs by Ezzat Shahi who, during a brutal confrontation with the Shah’s regime, “almost” survived the savage treatment by SAVAK and the psychological torture during his interrogation and imprisonment and lived to see the Islamic Revolution’s victory. Ezzat Shahi Memoirs is the history of two decades of fighting with the Shah’s regime and the story of violent political factions and armed militant groups and also the story of people who, with all kinds of creeds and beliefs, once upon a time rebelled to achieve eternal human aspirations, such as justice, equality and a society free from discrimination. In his memoirs, he has challenged and criticized many of the dissident and subversive groups in the 60s and 70s and has criticized and investigated those activities. The book editor, for documentation of the book, has researched a variety of sources and references such as electronic and verbal sources, and investigated about 3,000 documents, newsfeeds, reports of incidents relating to the anti-shah groups and fighters before and after the revolution, the life of the leading figures before and after the revolution, and has discussed with them with Ezzat Shahi. The distinctive characteristics of these memoirs compared to other monographic memoirs are in their oral history. Because in order to extend and confirm the verbal speech, he has referenced the verbal speech and statements of the personalities indicated in his stories. The author has tracked these people in far and nearby places with difficulty and has interviewed them on research topics to uncover the historical truth far from personal bias. In the process of creating the book, he has tried to present as many documents as possible about 107 the personality and actors of the Ezzat Shahi Memoirs and the events during his campaign and to reconstruct the historical truth so that nothing remains untold. He refers to his biography and, if possible, his appearance, to allow the reader to judge with more data and information. The beauty of the book, in addition to the suspenseful events of the memoir, lies in the applied documents and photographs inserted at the end of the book and a detailed description for each photo has been provided based on the text of the memoirs and footnotes. The book Ezzat Shahi Memoirs is highly accurate and comprehensive and has been written with a history storytelling method. The author has provided accurate footnotes that are a big advantage for the book. The book was welcomed very well and by July 2014, it hit its 21st edition mark.

Hosseini removed the hat from my head. He took a look, and I looked back: He was the Dracula! For some people who were unprepared, seeing Hosseini’s face was a torture per se; his complexion, teeth, and eyes were terrible. A barbarian! I was surprised to see Hosseini and realized that the chips were down. “Oh yeah, Mr. Ezzat! Our close friend, how are you?!” said Hosseini. “Not bad,” I replied. He grabbed my hand and took me into his room very politely and laid me on the bed. He tied my legs to the sides and tied my hands above my head. Then he said, “Don’t you say anything; don’t make a sound, just move your thumb whenever you want to talk.” Then he began to whip cold-bloodedly, which shook me to the core. Every blow was like a shock and choked the breath . . . The assassination of four Iranian opposition’s political activists at Mykonos Restaurant in Berlin has become one of the most controversial cases in German history and jeopardized the relations between Germany and Europe with Iran to the point of deporting ambassadors. Kazem Darabi, an Iranian student and businessman living in Germany, was sentenced to life imprisonment based on a fake accusation by the German court. The book Coffee Painting contains Darabi’s memories from childhood to involvement in the Mykonos case and the trial and eventually prison, based on oral interviews. Darabi, who was deported from Germany, after spending five years in prison returned to Iran and narrated his story of Mykonos incident and tried to prove his innocence by examining the documents. The present book deals with the memories of the Iranian student and businessman, Kazem Darabi, a resident of Germany and the main suspects in the Mykonos restaurant terrorist incident. The author of the book, in his introduction to the book, explains the purpose of his work as a question of how and why the Mykonos incident happened, its perpetrators, the end and the consequences of the story. By choosing the title Coffee Painting and using the metaphor of painting, the author depicts the Mykonos story as a wall painting with a lot of images that are mostly obscure. Each of these images is based on the guesswork of the painters. The book begins quickly and with an overview of Darabi’s childhood and adolescence and his family background, describes his reasons for emigrating to Germany and his living and working conditions. The first to fourth canvases of the book, titled The Seven Lines, Carving Stone, Pointillism, and Warp & Woof, examine this period of Darabi’s life. From the fifth canvas, the Mykonos story begins from Darabi’s perspective and he tells the story of his apprehension in this canvas, titled The Burnt Page. The next canvases describe in detail the Darabi’s narrative of the days of detention, courtroom, issuance of the sentence, prison, and ultimately freedom. The twenty-first and 111 last canvas of the book, titled Naghshaviz deals with the views and memories of various personalities about this story and Kazim Darabi himself, letters and postcards, images, diaries, documents, press releases, and pictures. The book is set up in 21 chapters and each chapter contains several sections. BERLIN - At 22:50, Thursday, September 17, 1992, three men from a terrorist team enter Prague Square and head to Mykonos Restaurant. One stands at the doorway to watch out, and the other two enter the restaurant. Over there, nine people, mostly members of the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), were sitting around a table to convene. A gunman covering half of his face fires at them and a man with a pistol fires two death blow shots at the victims. As a result of this terrorist action, four people including the party leader were killed and the restaurant owner was seriously injured . . . “The prison loudspeaker blared time and again during the day, announcing the schedule for that day and the next day. For example, it was announced that inmates could go to church the next day from and to such and such hours to pray; or at what time they could use the SFB radio program. That is how I was informed that every Sunday I could go to the church and pray.” Mohsen Kazemi (1969-Tehran) About the Author: Mohsen Kazemi, graduated in economics, was recruited to the army’s war education board in 1995 as an analyst and produced a series of reports about the field trips of the board up to 1998. That period coincides with the commencement of Martyr Hemmat taking command of that unit, which is why it is also possible to find traces of the massive transborder Ramadan operations on the eastern front of Basra in the book. The main goal of the author is to write the history of the 27th Mechanized Division of Muhammad Rasulullah, but in addition, the direct and indirect events associated with developments in the 27th Division’s scope of operations at that time are mentioned as well. The historical scope considered in the writing of the book is limited to the end of the summer of 1982 and the period of preparation of the commanders and fighters of this unit to go to the western front to launch Muslim bin Aghil Battle. The material collected in the book originates from four general sources: interviews, with the command center, wireless conversations, and briefings. The book makes use of a collection of oral and written memoirs and statements of the political authorities of the country and the commanders of the various ranks of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces and the Basijis (secret police) during the Holy Defense years, and specifically in relation to the five stages of the Ramadan Battle. It should be noted that the Muhammad Rasulullah 27th Brigade entered the scene from the third Ramadan operations after returning from Lebanon. The book Counterstrike has fourteen chapters, namely, The Scheme to Chase the Invader, The Goals of Karbala Operational Plan, Reconnaissance and Organizing, Deterrent Efforts, Counterstrike, Unsuccessful Penetration, Fetr Battle, Remedial Willpower, Choice of Solution, Confronting Triangular Fortresses, The Third Triangle, The Last Strategies, The Last Effort, and the Balance Sheet of the Ramadan Battle. The book’s text reflects the reality of Iraq’s imposed war on Iran and it is fully documented and credible, leaving no doubt about the facts of the Ramadan Operations. The author of the work narrates the real history of war without addition or deletion along with the commanders’ memories. There is no place in this book for character development and dramatization because research 115 cannot create a false and imaginary character and it must be stated as it is. The daily lives of Martyr Hemmat and Martyr Motovaselian were also mentioned in Counterstrike, but again it cannot be said that the book is a memoir, since in a memoir the memoir writer is free to add some character development alongside the facts relating to the main character. According to the author, the book was originally written for a specific audience, but it quickly sold out and it became clear that it was well-received by the general public besides the specific audience . . . however, it is because of the fluent writing style and the sweet historiography of the book and anyone who has not even seen the Imposed War can enjoy the book by reading it and understanding the details of the war.The information in this book is extracted from conversations with commanders, meetings, operations night’s wireless communications until the end of the operations, interviews with families of the fighters, and so on.The Supreme Leader, in a handwritten note on the margin of the book, stated: “Books like Counterstrike and At Pace with the Lightning must be some of the popular handbooks for the Corps staff and their families”.This book highlights the role of commanders in the war, and how the army and Corps commanders entered the Holy Defense theatre and carried out successful operations . . . Duty of the commanders is to promote, publish, and distribute a sufficient amount of these books across the community. book excerpt

“At this moment, Nosratollah Gharib, commander of Hamzeh Seyyed Al- Shohada’s battalion, calls the Fath-1 message center: Gharib: Ehsan, Ehsan 4! Hemmat: Roger Gharib, Hemmat here, over. Gharib: Dear Sir, what is the situation on our right now? [Where the Al-Mehdi (AS) 33rd brigade battalions should be acting] Our right side! Hemmat: Good. Over there, Al-Mehdi (AS) came forward and got closer. Tell me what your situation is?! Gharib: Our situation is good; our kids went forward. Hammett: How many of these crab (tanks) have been hit so far?! What have they achieved?! Gharib: Dear Sir! We had 3780 rounds of food (took 3780 steps forward). Hemmat: Yes. Have you reached the enemy or not? Gharib: Yes. We hit its tanks too! Hemmat: How many crabs did you hit?! Gharib: Seven, eight! Seven, eight! Hemmat: Beware that these bastards do not escape! Otherwise, early in the morning they fry their souls and come for you. Open yourself to the left and the right and clear the area carefully! Plant the Meghdad [battalion] there as I said, and go ahead! Understood? Gharib: Yes, yes. We are doing the same. go to the church and pray.”

At Pace with the Lightning are a history book and a documentary on how the Mohammad Rasulullah (PBUH) Army 27 - one of the armies that influenced the Iran - Iraq war, was recruited. The book, after describing the historical and military role of the Mohammad Rasulullah (PBUH) Army 27, explains how this brigade was formed in the beginning which later became an army, and talks about the bravery, resistance and the commandership of the war. It also describes memories of the western and southern fronts and the operations in those areas. The I.R.I.’s Supreme Leader has stated about this book, “This book is a very rich and valuable source from which dozens of books, script, and biographies can be extracted. The moments and situations recorded throughout this book are the same astonishing subtleties that in their totality depict a magnificent and fascinating picture of operations such as Fath Al-Mobin and Beyt Al-Moghadas, showing the ultimate examples of the art of Jihad, sacrifice, bravery and ingenuity in the collection of the unique exhibition of Islamic Revolution’s Arts.”

The text of this book is summarized in 5 topics: 1 - A brief review of what happened in Iran in the first year of the Iran - Iraq war. 2 - Changing Iran’s defensive strategy and adopting tactics and reorganizing Iran’s defenses at the end of the first year of the Imposed War. 3 - Mountain operations of the Mohammad Rasulullah Brigade in Kurdistan. 4 - How the Mohammad Rasulullah Brigade 27 was formed in Feb. 1982. 5 - Detailed overview of the performance of Brigade 27 from its inception, participation in Fath Al-Mobin and Beyt Al-Moghadas operations up to the deployment of Mohammad Rasulullah forces to Syria and return to Tehran in the summer of 1982. This book has made use of extensive and focused research including collecting, sorting, recording, and choosing text from 5300 minutes of 119 audiotape, wireless conversation, meetings and discussions between various operational levels. The main difference between At Pace with the Lightning and other similarly documented books is that the story of war is told by the martyrs and fighters instead of the author.

«When we reached the enemy barricades, in front of every trench, the brethren shouted in Arabic: “Come, get out!” Inside one of the Barghazeh’s trenches, we found the bodies of two Iraqis who had been executed by firing squad. We asked the Iraqi captives, “Who are these guys? Why did they execute them?” They said, “Saddam was here yesterday and was leading the operations himself. Esma'eel lost his father at a young age, he is always a school runaway, and his mother could barely make him continue up to the fifth grade. He lives in Ghanbarabad, a downtown neighborhood, and his usual hangout is Ali Khaldar’s café, where he meets other kids, watches TV and reads books - love stories and detective stories. After a long time strolling down the streets, Esma›eel finds a job in the bank thanks to an acquaintance of Ali Khaldar. Thereafter, his life gets better than before. Shortly after starting his career at the bank, he meets a high school girl called Sarah and falls in love with her. He writes her letters and they talk on the phone. On their first date, they meet in the park. But Sarah’s father arrives, and it ends with assault and battery and the police station, and Esma›eel is released based on the written pledge. After wandering aimlessly for a while, Esma›eel goes to a mosque. There, he meets Javad, the librarian. He both reads books and helps Javad to do his work. During that time, Esma›eel becomes familiar with most of the preachers in Tehran and always strives to attend their lectures. Javad talks about the Shah and his devotion to the Americans, the religious authority, Imam Khomeini, their opposition to the Shah and finally the deportation of Imam to Najaf. Javad gives banned books to Esma›eel to improve his knowledge. A play called Hor is scheduled to be performed in the mosque. Javad plays the role of Hor. The mosque is crowded during the play. Some SWAT vehicles arrive. An officer calls out the mosque’s servant with a loudspeaker. The officer punches and kicks the servant for being late. Esma›eel cannot stand it, grabs the speaker from the officer and hits him on the head a couple of times with it. Blood runs down the officer’s forehead . . . Esma›eel escapes. He first goes to Javad’s home to hide his books and leaflets, then goes to their own home and places his books and leaflets in the under stairs storage, burns Sara’s letters and takes refuge in the Imamzadeh via the roof. As he hears the sound of strangers approaching Imamzadeh, he enters a hatch that has a narrow and spiraling staircase and reaches the minaret. Suddenly, he smells 123 gunpowder, and blood drops along with the pigeons’ feathers and furries scatter around and paint Esma›eel’s face red. Esma›eel grabs a thin walnut tree branch near him and jumps. The branch breaks and Esma›eel falls sideways into an empty grave filled with mud and sleet. Esma›eel is one of the few humanistic novels about the revolution. A characteristic of the Esma›eel novel is its intimate language, and the author has been able to push the events forward well using this intimate language. The author has beautifully documented an event that took place during the revolution. The text is very fluent with great character development. The book is a completely humane work, free from any slogans and exaggerations.

book excerpt

“A moment later, it broke with a crackle, and he fell along with the branch. He fell sideways into an empty grave filled with mud and sleet. He heard the sound of his own growling and then, the cawing of a few crows. He loosened up. Sleepy, he was slowly sinking into the fog. The grave cavity was soft and comfortable; like a cradle, like a mother’s bosom. He had achieved Nirvana. Sometimes familiar and kind eyes watched him and someone asked, “Who are you?” His mouth tasted like snow. The pigeons fluttered. Their blood splattered on his face, warm, with soft fluffies. There was a sound coming from far away, the sound of a train horn. The ground was shaking, the grave was shaking, the grave was getting deeper, the grave was dragging him inside. There was the sound of a train. A train approached him from afar.” AmirHussein Fardi (1949 - 2013/Ardebil)

It is wartime and the country is in crisis, but whenever Farzaneh returns to her hometown of Bojnurd, her mind is busy with Topchenar Village. She tries to construct water pipeline in the village with the help of The Ministry of Construction Jihad but she discovers she has been infected with tuberculosis via Narges. An illness without a happy ending. Farzaneh lives in a house owned by Heybatollah. In the village, most of the women work and go to the desert for sheep grazing and firewood collection. All events take place in the village and the beautiful atmosphere and scenery and the sincere villagers are depicted in full detail. The difficulties and hardships of a rural teacher are also mentioned in this book. Shah Hosseini built the Topchenar novel upon the true story of a woman named Farzaneh Salehabadi. She was a teacher who was martyred during her sacred job at Topchenar village. In 1989, Shahriar Bahrani produced a movie adapted from Topchenar novel, Do Not Spoil the Water. Shah Hosseini wrote this novel to defend the personality and oppression of women. A story with sophisticated construction, and strong and tangible character development, that is based on a 127 fresh and pristine subject matter. book excerpt

For a long time, the woman could not bear any eye look at her face, that long ago the error lines were spread on it. She lowered her head and followed her line of sight to crawl between the flames. The girl, still trying to find a way into her soul, asked, “You just have this one child, why do not you come to the classroom?” Salimeh curled up her knees and said, “People’s problems are not just kids. I have so many problems that I cannot count them.” ”.Everyone must learn“ ـ The must for me is the bread of this orphan and a few dollars to“ ـ solve my problems.” ”. . . That is why I want you to come to the classroom“ ـ The woman grimaced in a way that shook the corner of her lips and interrupted the girl, “You are so unconcerned! You are up to your waist in the water, and demand a person with the burned foot to listen to mystics’ singing (Sema)!” Enise Shahhusseini (1997-Gorgan) About the Author:

“We have heard that Ilam women have protected the city against the Monafeghs’ occupation. We went to Ilam’s female Basij center. The Basij building was not damaged. The Basij sisters were very pleased to see us. There were about twenty women. We sat down and asked about the incident. They explained it as such, “When the Monafeghs were moving toward Ilam, the men decided to leave the city and block their way and prevent them from entering the city. We sat behind the machine guns and loaded our G-3 and Colt guns and defended the city. They did not know whether a man or a woman was behind the machine gun. We were shooting so that they do not think the city was empty. We kept watching till morning. We shot some of them too. That is how we did not allow them to enter our town.”

This book contains the memoirs of Ali Tamasoki, an Iranian fighter during the Pahlavi era which provides a readable and tangible picture of the story of the dictatorial regime’s opponents in Iran. This book, in addition to valuable historical information and data, provides researchers with the right material to study. The memoirs of Ali Tamasoki illustrates the religious assemblies and circles and connecting networks that played an important role in shaping the young people’s thoughts at that time; while it narrates the political, religious and social conditions of those days in Iran. The narrator’s fairly extensive memoirs that describe prison conditions and torture in the Pahlavi regime, depict the quality of life and the harsh living conditions of fighters in political prisons. The remarkable point in this book is that the memoirs are compiled in such a way that the words, literature and even the narrator’s tone are represented verbatim as much as possible. The book is set up in six sections. The first section is about the narrator’s adolescence and education in his hometown. The second section is about the teaching job, detention, the Anti-Sabotage Joint Committee and the harsh conditions of the narrator at that time. The third and fourth parts describe the events that the narrator experienced in the Shah regime’s prisons. The fifth part deals with the events that took place on the eve of the victory of the revolution and the last part deals with the narrator’s activities in the aftermath of the 135 revolution. book excerpt

As a matter of fact, the Ghasr Prison was a place to keep the detainees, not to torture them. But Jianpanah was an ill-tempered and wicked person. He liked to harass the inmates due to his psychological complexes. He thought if he treated the prisoners badly, he could scare them and keep them even more under control. He did not understand that such behavior was basically futile. He used to come inside the prison divisions every day to check things out, but because he was hated, no one would talk to him. He was suffering from that situation too. But unfortunately, this was the case. He had a lot of problems in terms of personality and ethics and that weakness rendered him incapable of managing the inmates and the prison premises. Because of his incapacity, he caused conflict and tension in the prison while there was no need to clash with prison officials. They had also realized that there was no need for someone to oversee the prisoners. The internal management was always entrusted to the inmates, which in turn resulted in positive self-control.

Martyr Bagheri’s wife spends the first few days of the war in Khorramshahr but inevitably leaves Khorramshahr and goes to Shiraz like other women around her. But the men stay in Khorramshahr and defend the city. The defense continues until the end of the war. The women go to Khorramshahr, Bushehr or other cities, but the narrator of these memories - due to staying in Khorramshahr with her husband - goes to various cities such as Qom, Mahshahr, and Abadan and lives there for some time. Bagherzadeh tries to keep the household calm, but just think how a sudden woman gets stuck in a war, a situation that women become soldiers overnight. On the other hand, when Khorramshahr is liberated, they are shockingly glad because they have taken back the bloody city (Khorramshahr). At the end of the book, when she loses everything, she still hopes to 139 rebuild Khorramshahr book excerpt

Mr. Khosrovani did not answer. He was just crying. I had become mad. I was mourning over the phone. I said, “Mr. Haji, why did not you look after him? Now, what can I say to Sajjad? Shahar will have a stroke. What should I do with Ali? Sajjad cannot sleep all night, he drove us to the wall by insisting on seeing daddy Bahman.” Mr. Khosravani was sobbing. Both of us were silent for a few minutes. I was also crying by hearing Mr. Khosravani’s weeping. His sad weeping touched my heart. I hung up the phone and dialed Rahmat’s number. He was seemingly sleeping right beside the phone because he picked up the handset on the first ring. His voice was choked; he must have cried a lot. He said with an anxious voice, “Yes? Rahmat speaking.” I said, “Mr. Rahmat, it was so kind of you! Why did you leave me and come?” He burst into tears by hearing my voice and held the handset away. I heard his voice from a distance saying, “O’ Saint Abbas! O’ Saint Abolfazl! Sir, such a disaster. Come, it is Nasrin.” The uncle grabbed the phone but could not speak. I was crying out loud. I hung up the phone and sat in the middle of the room. I clawed on my face and tore my hair out. But I couldn’t cry. Halimeh noticed all that and came upstairs. As she entered the room, I smashed the clock - which was still at hand - against the wall and its glass shattered. I did not know what I was doing. My jaws were locked. I could neither not talk nor cry. My mother stepped forward and said, “Nasrin, cry baby! Scream!” I picked up the clock again and smashed it hard to the floor. “Okay . . . whatever you say,” my mother said, “Whatever you say, have your own way. I do not bother you.” Behnaz Zarrabizadeh (1958-Hamadan) About the Author:

The Cold Suran is about soldiers serving at two bases in the western part of the country. The whole region and these two bases are nearly falling, and one of the two bases actually falls, and in the other one, there is a spy who starts spying for the counter-revolutionary network and the Komala group. Without giving away his cover, he begins to spy for the counter-revolutionary network and the Komala group. One of the characters of the story who had been involved in those events enters the Suran region after 5 years. Looking for that spy, he enters the area and relives his memories, until . . . The novel The Cold Suran is a tale of war, but in addition to Iran - Iraq war, shows the images of two more wars to the reader, the war of man with nature, and the war of man with carnal desires. In this novel, Afhami portrays the cold and deadly winter in the Suran region so masterfully that the audience feels the cold to his bone marrow. On the other hand, the book deals with the fears and doubts of the people who are experiencing carnal desires and worldly attachments. However, the novel The Cold Suran praises faith and willpower; the faith and willpower of the soldiers who do not bow to the cruel and reckless nature and restrain themselves. Afhami narrated that all without falling into the trap of slogans and generalities. Instead, with a very detailed and articulated style, he draws Suran’s map in the mind of the audience and then steps aside to allow the reader to judge this gruesome battle between good and evil. In other words, the adventures that take place in The Cold Suran story are pristine and have a fresh subject matter. The author’s point of view is not biased, and this arouses empathy and sympathy of the reader. In the novel, we see that the Sina character is pumped into the audience’s head with a really strong beat, and this character shows you the face of Holy Defense; such that he prays in bad situations. If a member of the opposition would have written this book, he would ruin the Sina character so much that it would lose its current luster, while in this novel, the author was aware of the sanctity of the character. 143 The novel The Cold Suran is Javad Afhami’s first novel and has been nominated for some awards including the Book of the Season Award and the Golden Pen Award and has been rated first as the book of the year at Shahid Ghani Pour Festival. This book is a complex account of the war in the western parts of the country and has a non-linear structure.

«Saeed looked behind him, at the thick fog that the wind occasionally scattered away, and at the mud houses that were built at the distance on the gentle slope of a hill, and each one was built over the roof of the other. “Will it snow?” he asked. “Yes, maybe,” replied the village headman, “When it snows, the wolves climb the mountain.” Javad Afhami (1964-Bujnoord) About the Author:

My Share of His Eyes is the story of the Iraqi invasion of Iran, told from the perspective of Hesam as an observer. From this point of view, the memoirs quoted in this book show a different perspective. Hamid Hesam, a fighter whose job it is to watch the war zone, defines the defense from the front line, upon the hills, mountains, towers, and from the heart of the enemy to home, university, and society. Commander Hamid Hesam spent most of his time on the front and after a number of assignments on the front such as shooting RPG-7, works in the reconnaissance department and is appointed as a watchdog in Ansar Al-Hossein (AS) division of Hamedan province. At that time, he was fascinated by a character named Martyr Mohammad Manochehri and spends memorable moments in his company. This character, in the book My Share of His Eyes, deals with the Holy Defense memoirs that reflect his humanistic view of the era, and through telling his observation memoirs, kind of exposes the deeper layers of the human personality during the war and describes the witnessed events and maneuver plans. The stages of his life until September 22, 1980, are written in a simple narrative, and from the beginning of Iraq’s Impose War on Iran, the holy defense events witnessed by Hamid Hesam are described in detail and continues at the end of each chapter with pictures relating to those events. In this book, there are 10 to 12 transformations of human beings with their pasts who have come to the front and continued their lives in a different way, and it is noteworthy that most of them have been martyred. The observation troops in the Holy Defense era are a valuable subject that has been rarely considered. The book My Share of His Eyes is one of the few works in which, memoirs have been compiled in detail, relying on the author’s story development skills. The works of Commander Hamid Hesam are somewhere between memoir and fiction. This style is popular with both audiences and 147 authors alike. book excerpt

I took a gunny bag and put it on my head to protect myself from sunlight and also the light does not hit my black hair and render me visible. If I wanted to observe in the sitting position, the Iraqis would easily spot me and it was game over. So, I lay on my stomach and slowly crawled on the embankment roof until I reached the edge of embankment’s cornices. When I was crawling, I was distracted by the Iraqis and did not realize that I was crawling on the melting bitumen of the embankment’s roof. During certain daylight hours, the terrain belonged to Iraqis and it was ours in other hours. From morning to noon, the enemy had a good view because they were located at the south of the area and the sunrise from the east, cast the sunlight on our face and we were exposed. In the mornings, the air was sultry and dusty, and we called it a half-of-five vision, meaning it was not of good quality and obscured. In the afternoons until sunset, the view was ours, that is, the sun was behind us, illuminating our south and southeast sides. In that case, the vision was clear a.k.a. five-of-five. So, when I was on the embankment, the vision was in our favor. I had an ordinary 7×42 binocular. While lying down, I slowly held the binocular in front of my eyes. No, I could not believe my eyes. In an instant, all Iraqi positions appeared in front of my eyes. It was as if I was above the enemy in a helicopter and peeped down on their activities.” Mostafa Rahimi (1963-Hamedan) About the Author:

I was awake before the Azan at dawn. Suddenly, I heard a voice saying, “Awake, you believers, prayer is better than sleep . . .” I realized it must be a precursor to Azan, so later the Azan would begin. These sounds are muffled and come from nearby, and sometimes entirely cut off. As if the wind brings them. When the wind does not blow, there is no sound of Azan. I am still writhing in pain. I wait for the time to pass and the sun to rise and see who would bring me breakfast. I want to eat something, cheer up and get warm. I wait for the sun to rise. How important are the mornings here? Waiting is so excruciating. It seems to me that even waiting is painful, but the morning is finally on its way. The light can be seen through the canopy of palm trees. It is about eight o’clock that a hand pushes aside the branches and the light gradually becomes brighter.

Title: Sabah Author: Fatemeh Doustkami Subject: Non-Fiction (Memory) Year of Publishing: 2019 / 1th Edition No. of Pages: 227/Paperback Size: 14 × 22 ISBN: 97896000329679 about book

It is important to address the remarkable role of women in war, both on and off the battlefield behind the frontline. When we tell women about themselves and their potential displayed in a showcase called war, we are actually reminding them of their capabilities. Sabah Vatankhah was a diligent female relief worker in the cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr who played a role in the occupation of Khorramshahr as well as the public resistance to the occupation. Sabah was a girl with a questioning spirit who researched Islam and the Islamic Revolution step by step and had a good knowledge of them and also believed in them. She was a defender of her city and an example of the revolutionary generation of those years. She consciously and insightfully chose the path of her life and belief and endured all of the hardships and difficulties. Vatankhah was present from the very first days of the war in Khorramshahr and later in Abadan, and as a militia fighter retells everything she had seen and experienced. The book, like another memoir, works particularly from a female perspective, is written in detail. While adhering to the original memories, the author has used writing skills to make the memories more attractive. But what makes Sabah even more readable is the close-up view of the days of Khorramshahr’s resistance. In Sabah, it seems that Khorramshahr itself has opened its mouth and after almost four decades, has narrated everything in its memory; from sadness of missing loved ones and forced migration to the surrounding cities to “Khamseh Khamsehs” that could not frustrate a city and the people who, based on an unwritten treaty, resisted house to house. What you see as the character development and atmosphere creation in the book Sabah is self-evident truths and kind of documentary writing materials and tools. The memories of Ms. Vatankhah are a 155 result of 300 hours of interviewing her. book excerpt

I stuck my head out of the window of our house in the mansion building. Massoud Paki was at the door. He was dressed in a Basij (secret police) outfit, happy to ride on a motorbike. He waved to me as he saw me and said, “Hi, sister Sabah! Hurry up and come down; I came for you to take you to the other kids.” Under his feet was full of bright, small stars. They were so beautiful and bright that I could not look away. Happy and restless to see Massoud and what he had said, I immediately began to go down the stairs. Fatemeh Doustkami (1982-Tehran) About the Author:

The book Farangis is the story of braveries of Ms. Farangis Heydarpour, a lioness from Gilangharb territory, written by Ms. Mahnaz Fatahi. It is a readable story about the resistance of Iranian women against Ba’ath Party invaders during the Holy Defense. In 1980, after the Iraqi invasion of Farangis’s place of birth, the people fled to the surrounding valleys. Farangis, who was 18 at the time, returned to the village at night with his brother and father to get some food. But along the way, Farangis’s father and brother are killed in clashes with Iraqi agents, and Farangis without a firearm engages with the Iraqi soldiers using her father’s ax, killing one and capturing the other with all the battle equipment and submits him to the command headquarters of Iran’s army.

This book has been praised by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the acclaimed it as such: “The untold and important part of the events during the defense can be found in this book thanks to the biography of this brave and devoted lady. The brave Ms. Farangis has spoken to us with the same firm and powerful spirit, and the honest and sincere language of a peasant, and with the delicate emotions of a woman and has shown to us an unknown and important area of the imposed war’s geography in detail. We never knew about the situation of borderline villages during the war and their many disasters and homelessness and starvation and property damages and devastation and heartbreaking fate of their loved ones with the clarity and detail that has been presented in this sincere narrative; neither knew about self-sacrifices by their youth who were the first ones to confront the invading enemy. The story of murder and capture of the enemy by this brave lady is in itself an independent and exceptional tale that happened only once again in at the same times. Lady Farangis must be acknowledged and must be thankful to the author of the book - Mrs. Fatahi - for her fluent and 159 eloquent pen and the art of interviewing and memoir writing.” book excerpt

In the heart of the night, the sound of tank chains and exploding cannonballs and mortars did not stop for a moment. From Gilangharb, our troops also fired cannons and bombs at Gorsefid. Avehzin and Gorsefid had become the front line. . . ! After the Iraqi invasion of Avehzin Village, people flee to the surrounding valleys, but during the clashes and enemy attacks, nine of Farangis›s loved ones are martyred by the Ba’ath soldiers. We were near Avehzin as we reached the river. I was sitting by the river to get some water but I saw two Iraqi soldiers. They attacked us and right in front of my father’s eyes and mine, martyred my brother. I was furiously angry. My brother was the ninth loved one that they took away from me. I had no fear. When they were talking, I picked the ax and raised it and killed one of them with the ax. I captured the other one with all his weaponry, but the flame inside me was not extinguished yet. Farangis without a firearm engages with the Iraqi soldiers using her father’s ax, killing one and capturing the other with all the battle equipment and submits him to the command headquarters of Iran’s army. The King, goes farther back in history and narrates the story of the Qajar princes. Whatever the author describes in the novel can be found in Qajar history books, but imagination has found a wider area to go about and the author freely impresses the prominent Zeitgeist on the subconscious mind of the reader by bringing together live images and through the magic of words. But the characters no longer have a corresponding accurate real-world doppelganger. Babri Khan, Naser Al-Din Shah’s favorite cat, is an excuse to build on the character of Alijah, who carries the spirit of the great prince within himself. Jeyran becomes a deer and Anis Al-Doleh, who accompanied Naser al-Din Shah to St. Petersburg and had to return, becomes one of the harem’s nameless concubines. From the first chapter to the end, periods of the contemporary Iranian history such as the reign of Reza Shah and the removal of women’s veils, World War I and the fall of Reza Shah, reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, land reforms, the expansion of urban space and construction in that era, and the destruction of rural and pristine spaces, the political struggles before and after the revolution and even the Imposed War and the present time are reviewed in chronological order. The present book about the revolution, titled Ing Without K, is the second novel for adults by Mohammad Kazem Mazinani after King Without K. Ing Without K is the story of a leftist revolutionary fighter with a communist mindset that begins at the 40s when the main character of the story is born and continues till 2012. The novel typically points out the inherent generational contradictions and differences between the main character and his child. The novel looks from bottom to top and actually, it is narrated in the context of fiction and imagination. The book Ing Without K provides the reader with good information, especially the author’s knowledge is revealed better in the fields of anthropology and sciences that are less accessible to you. The author has researched historical matters before writing his story, and the work is a trilogy. While Ing Without K is mainly related to the past and goes across several generations, the author’s writing style is such 163 that there seems to be no flashbacks or orifices opening to the past. Ing Without K is the story of the fate of a nation that on the eve of its social upheaval, rises from grassroots, fights corruption, and ultimately kneels before the logic of the reality of the “proponents of these”.
