HOW DOES CURBSIDE HOLDS PICK-UP WORK? Here’s how it works: When you receive notification that your holds are ready for pick-up, call your HCPL pick-up location. Please have your library card number and PIN handy. You will be given a pick-up time and instructions for curbside pick-up (These may vary slightly from branch to branch). When you arrive at the library, follow the instructions you were provided over the phone. You may be asked to show your library card or other form of ID for verification.
Note: Library staff will not be able to take your returns during curbside pick-up, please put them in the book drop. For your safety and that of HCPL staff, curbside pick-up may be temporarily suspended during bad weather.

LIBRARIES OFFER ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP FOR JOB HUNTERS Searching for a job can be difficult and stressful, but doing it in the middle of a pandemic can be even worse. Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will host an online Job-Search Support Group on Tuesday, April 27th at 2 PM. This program will be live-streamed via Webex; it will NOT be in person. In this online forum, job hunters will have an opportunity to network with other people, exchange tips and leads or simply vent their frustrations with others in the same position. Library staff will share helpful online resources that can be accessed through the FBCL website. These free resources can help job seekers create a better resumé, improve their job skills, research job opportunities and careers and much more. This online event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required so that a link to the Webex session can be emailed to all participants. INGREDIENTS: 23 large marshmallows 2 cups brown sugar 1/4 cup light corn syrup (such as Karo®) 1 cup butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 (3.5 ounce) packages microwave popcorn, popped
DIRECTIONS: Cook and stir the marshmallows, brown sugar, corn syrup, butter and vanilla extract together in a pot over medium-low heat until the marshmallows are completely melted, 5 to 7 minutes.
Put the popcorn in a large bowl; pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and gently stir with a big spoon to coat.

INGREDIENTS: 1 cup butter, softened 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 3 cups rolled oats 1 cup raisins 1 cup crushed toffee candy
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and cinnamon, stir into the creamed mixture. Blend in the oatmeal, raisins and toffee bits. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. http://allrecipes.com

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc…” Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections. Shrubs, Flowers and ground covers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls. Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy. Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration” b) fertilization” c) weed control. Most important is proper watering: • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!!

McConnell chose the spring equinox (March 21, 1970) and Nelson chose April 22nd. Millions of people participated and today Earth Day continues to be widely celebrated with events on both dates.
The most common practice of celebration is to plant new trees for Earth Day. Other Earth Day activities and ideas are: Plant wildflowers, Go native! Plants thrive when they’re natural to your area, bring nature into the garden with plants that attract butterflies, try an organic vegetable garden and conserve water.
