In the year 1941, a substantial river swelling rendered the facilities inadequate for irrigation. Ingeniero Ballester Dyke, located 19 miles North from Neuquén City, has its access by Provincial Road No. 7. Its foundation stone was put on 17th March 1910.

The dyke is the head of the High Valley of Rio Negro irrigation system. It has an 80-mile long main channel, complemented by a vast network of secondary and tertiary channels. It is used to guarantee the water supply in periods when the Neuquén River water level is low, and also to reduce the eects of excessive swellings in an ecient way, altering the course of part of its flow to the Pellegrini Lake, avoiding the numerous damages that the water can cause. The works were designed by renowned Italian engineers, directed by Cesar Cipolletti, and the execution was carried out by Ferrocarriles Del Sud. Irrigation Museum All the records on the building of Ingeniero Ballester Dyke can be visited and seen in the Irrigation Museum, in Barda Del Medio town. The dierent rooms of the Museum show the dyke's construction plans, the tools and machines used, pictures from that period, the accounting books, documents files, maps, safety gear, welding equipment, moulds and pieces melted during the construction, electrical spares, typing machines and a railway loading car, among others. Moreover, the Museum suggests activities to practice in family and/or with friends: birdwatching, horseback riding, and boat floating along Neuquén River or photographic safaris. Bubalcó Zoo is a project that, by the periodic breeding and exhibition of wild, native and exotic fauna species, suggests achieving pedagogic, scientific and tourist objectives, related to the fauna resource. It is situated in a 34 hectare piece of land, on island 19, near Contralmirante Guerrico, public lands in Allen City, where there is a Patagonia coastal biome with abundant native willows, Larrea ameghinoi, pampas grass and Festuca gracillima hills, and a diverse wild, native bird life. In this piece of land there are various sections that recreate dierent environments: the African savannah (black antelopes, zebras, lemurs, etc.), the aviary (dierent swam, duck, turkey, goose, pheasant, and crane species, among others), the river promenade, the greenhouse, the Patagonian steppe (rhea (Pterocnemia pennata), guanaco, red fox, etc.), the tigers, cheetahs and jaguars enclosure, and the Psittacidae circuit, where visitors can watch dierent parrot, macaw and cockatoo species.
