ET TOURNÉ VERS L'AVENIR En cette saison 2019-2020, à l’heure où notre Ensemble fête ses 40 ans, la Fondation Les Arts Florissants – William Christie vient de naître. L’un comme l’autre sont animés par un même esprit fait d’exigence, d’ouverture, de générosité et bien sûr de plaisir — cet « esprit baroque » qui a donné vie à ce que l’on peut aujourd’hui appeler le « style Arts Flo ». Cet anniversaire est avant tout une fête, à l’image de notre folle aventure initiée il y a 40 ans et à laquelle ont pris part tant d’artistes exceptionnels. 40 ans consacrés à redonner une vie nouvelle à un répertoire alors oublié pour l’ancrer dans notre temps, à cultiver l’émotion et la jubilation de la musique. Mais aussi à partager ces trésors du passé avec les générations futures. À 40 ans, Les Arts Florissants n’en finissent pas de faire s’épanouir leur créativité et leur goût pour la transmission. Et c’est cette jeunesse et cet enthousiasme que nous souhaitons partager avec le public tout au long de l’année. « Venez vous joindre à nous pour célébrer 40 ans de plaisir baroque, et aborder avec plus encore de bonheur les 40 années à venir ! » AND LOOKING TO THE FUTURE This 2019-2020 season, as our Ensemble celebrates 40 years in existence, the Les Arts Florissants – William Christie Foundation is still in its infancy. Both are driven by the same spirit of excellence, openness, generosity and, of course, pleasure — the ‘baroque spirit’ that has given rise to what we now call the ‘Arts Flo style’. This anniversary is above all a celebration, true to this wild adventure that began forty years ago, in which so many exceptional artists have played a part. Forty years spent giving new life to a forgotten repertoire, allowing it to resonate with the world today, cultivating the emotion and jubilation of music, and sharing these treasures of the past with future generations. After 40 years, Les Arts Florissants continues to flourish, its creativity and love of transmission as vibrant as ever. We aim to share this youthful energy and enthusiasm with the public throughout the year.

UN ENSEMBLE MUSICAL HISTORIQUE A HISTORICAL MUSICAL ENSEMBLE
Fondés en 1979 par William Christie, Les Arts Florissants sont l’un des ensembles de musique baroque les plus reconnus au monde. Fidèle à l’interprétation sur instruments anciens, cette formation — qui tient son nom d’un petit opéra de Marc-Antoine Charpentier — a joué un rôle pionnier pour faire redécouvrir dans toute son actualité la musique européenne des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, représentée par Handel, Charpentier, Monteverdi, Rameau, Bach ou Purcell. Aujourd’hui, c’est ainsi une centaine de concerts et de représentations que Les Arts Florissants proposent chaque année sur les plus grandes scènes françaises et internationales. Une riche programmation, portée par des musiciens exceptionnels venus du monde entier pour interpréter ce répertoire sous la direction de William Christie et de Paul Agnew… et faire vivre ce « style Arts Flo » reconnaissable entre mille. Founded in 1979 by William Christie, Les Arts Florissants is one of the best- known baroque-music ensembles in the world. Established in the name of creativity, pleasure and sharing, the Ensemble — which takes its name from a short opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier — has played a pioneering role in the revival of a repertoire that had been largely forgotten and which is now enjoyed across the globe in all the most prestigious concert houses. This pioneering spirit has never died, and Les Arts Florissants’ two artistic directors, William Christie and Paul Agnew, continue the Ensemble’s tradition of research and innovation today.

Musique en plein air ou aux chandelles, dans un jardin idyllique aux multiples surprises… Chaque été au mois d’août, le festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie charme un public toujours plus large et plus nombreux. Créé en 2012, le Festival est né du désir commun du Conseil départemental de la Vendée et de William Christie. Avec un but : créer un événement unique en son genre, qui réunisse musique et jardins tout en mettant en valeur le magnifique site de Thiré, petit village vendéen aujourd’hui devenu le siège de la Fondation Les Arts Florissants – William Christie. Le temps d’une semaine, un riche programme est ainsi proposé chaque jour aux visiteurs, depuis les promenades musicales de l’après-midi dans le cadre exceptionnel du jardin de William Christie, jusqu’aux concerts du soir sur le Miroir d’eau ou dans la très belle église de Thiré.
