Pax Christi Church August 8, 2021- Nineteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Encountering, becoming and sharing the Presence, Love and Peace of Christ

A Note from Our Pastor MASS

Saturday 5:15 pm I will be on vacaon this week. Fr. Shawn will aend to any funerals or anoinng Sunday needs and the rest of the staff stand ready to serve you. 7:30 † 9:00, 10:45 am Don’t forget the picnic on Wednesday. I am sorry I won’t be able to LIVESTREAM † aend. They have been wonderful summer gatherings for our community. Watch live or view later. Over the years, the area around my parent’s home changed significantly. I was six www.youtube.com/c/ months old when we moved to our place two miles south of town and surrounded by PaxChristiChurch farm land. By the me my father passed away and we sold the house he was well within the city limits. I-94 was built when I was a child. There was an exit just a few DAILY miles from my parents’ house. As me went on I was struck by the changes to the T - 9 am W - 9 am & 5:30 pm area as a full-service rest area has been built. It began with a gas staon and quick TH - 9 am mart and a McStop. It now includes other restaurants, gas staons and a hotel. The F - 9 am advantage is that one can stop for the night, fill the gas tank, the stomach and the souvenir list within a mile of the interstate. In other words, the journey of life has RECONCILIATION goen considerably easier and more convenient. Sat. 4-5 Today’s Gospel connues the miracle of the loaves and fishes we heard two weeks ago. Those who had been fed thought that, because they knew Jesus, he could not be what he claimed to be - the bread that came down from heaven. In response, Jesus Eucharistic Adoration invites them, as he invites us, to move from seeing only the physical reality to asking 4 am-11 pm what is behind that reality, to asking what it means. If we only ask the queson, T, W & Th Chapel “What is that?” it is absurd to seek the Messiah in an inerant Galilean rabbi or Jesus in bread and wine. It is only when we ask “What is this for us?” that we can find the All are welcome any time! beauty which comes from what is invisible to the human eye. As Catholics we believe For the door code or to sign that God uses all the wonders of creaon to reveal his love and concern for us. up for an hour: Our world today offers a lot of opportunies for “fast food.” The queson is adoration.coordinator whether we are going to be sasfied with this food that does lile more than keep @gmail.com our hunger at bay. Or will we search for something that will truly sasfy us? The central truth of the gospel is that Jesus gives himself to us to nourish us. He is the paxchristichurch.org 507-282-8542 most perfect expression of God’s love and concern for us. Jesus even idenfies th 4135 - 18 AVE NW himself as the bread of life. When we gather we share more than bread and wine as Rochester, MN 55901 mere symbols of Jesus - they are sacramental symbols - they put us in touch with Jesus and make him present in our midst. But Jesus is not content to be present in only one way, he has a multude of means of presence. The Second Vacan Council talks about three of them. Jesus is present, not only in the transubstanated bread and wine but in his Word proclaimed in the Scriptures, in the assembly and in the Pastor person of the priest who presides. This presence is designed to touch us with Fr. John compassion and tell us to “get up and eat.” We sll have a long journey ahead of us, Sauer with temptaons and trials and disappointments. But we know that Jesus is the bread of life who feeds us and strengthens us for the journey. Fr. Shawn Fr.
