Lunch and dinner on own basis Overnight at Movenpick Hotel DAY 02 - 7TH AUGUST 2020 NAIROBI –AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK 0700hrs. Buffet breakfast at Movenpick Hotel. 0800hrs. Depart for Amboseli National Park. 1230hrs approx.: Arrive at Lodge for check in and lunch. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Other attraction of the park includes opportunities to meet the Maasai people and also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. 1600hrs: Depart for an evening game drive. 1830hrs return to the Lodge 1930hrs Dinner and then overnight at Amboseli Serena safari lodge. Meal Plan: Full board DAY 03 - 8TH AUGUST 2020- ENJOY FULL DAY AT AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK 0730hrs enjoy buffet breakfast there after you will venture out to explore the amazing and expanse Amboseli Park. You’ll get to enjoy full day game drive. We’ll carry along a delicious picnic lunch. Attractions: Large Herds of Elephants Mt. Kilimanjaro Big Five Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants, Swamp below observation hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water fowls like pelican, Egyptian goose Contemporary Maasai culture and indigenous lifestyle 1830hrs return to the Lodge 1930hrs Dinner and then overnight at Amboseli Serena safari lodge. Buffet breakfast at lodge 0730 hrs Depart after breakfast for Lake Nakuru National Park 1330hrs appx: Arrival at flamingo hill in time for check in and enjoy buffet lunch Lake Nakuru national park is well known for Greater and Lesser Flamingo is the main attraction in the park, including other water birds approximately about 450 species in total. Mammals: 56 different species including white Rhinos, Waterbuck etc. 1600hrs depart for evening game drive Other Attractions includes:- View-points: Lion hill, Baboon cliff and Out of Africa Hills: Enasoit, Honeymoon, Lion hill ridge etc. Waterfalls: Makalia. Unique vegetation: About 550 different plant species including the unique and biggest euphorbia forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodlands. 1830hrs return to the Lodge 1930hrs Dinner and then overnight at the Flamingo Hill Camp Meal Plan: Full board DAY 05 - 10TH AUGUST 2020- LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK-LAKE NAIVASHA 0730 hrs. Buffet breakfast at lodge 0930 hrs. Depart after breakfast for Lake Naivasha 1100hrs arrive at Lake Naivasha Sopa for check in and relax 1230hrs enjoy buffet lunch at the lodge Lake Naivasha is a serene freshwater lake and a superb oasis for wildlife, birds and plants. Just beyond the lake's shore are papyrus swamps, acacia woodlands and forests. There are more than 450 species of birds; from spectacled weavers, grey-backed fiscals, red-billed firefinches, little grebe, yellow billed stork, pelicans and African fish eagles among others. The lake is one of the primary drinking spots for a host of wildlife including zebras, buffalos, impalas, elands and waterbucks. It is also a favorite place for hippos to cool themselves during the day. A highlight of a visit here is a boating excursion around the lake or visit to the nearby Crescent Island. Some other exciting activates around Lake Naivasha include nature walks, horseback riding, flower farm trips, community visits. You can also opt for day excursions to Hell's Gate. This time can be used doing a boat ride or a visit to Crescent Island – see rates below. 1830hrs return to the resort 1930hrs Dinner and then overnight at lake Naivasha Sopa Meal Plan: Full board DAY 06 - 11TH AUGUST 2020 LAKE NAIVASHA –MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE 0630hrs: Wake up to an early buffet breakfast at lodge and then check out. 0730hrs: Depart for Maasai Mara National Reserve, which is also known as the “Jewell of Kenya. On your way to Maasai Mara National Reserve, you will enjoy different array of views which are just priceless. 1300hrs appx: Arrive at Maasai Mara National Reserve; you will have game drive enroute to your lodge which is Keekorok Lodge. The lodge boasts one of the prime locations in the masai mara making game drives very easy and interesting with good sighting of the wildlife including the migration at this time of the year. You’ll have a sumptuous Lunch at the lodge. 1530hrs - Enjoy your first game drive in this amazing game reserve known for its wildlife. A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeests, zebra, and gazelles from the Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and Mara River to reach Maasai Mara grazing fields. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed early June to August. The Mara has got also thousands of species of bird life and plant life. Introduction The name Masai Mara is derived from two words: Maasai after the Maasai tribe and Mara after the Mara River that runs across the reserve. The permanent Mara and Talek Rivers, and their tributaries, flow through the Reserve and approximately trisect it. Rainfall: In the drier east - c. 800 mm rainfall per year and to the wetter west - c. 1,200 mm per year. The reserve is primarily open grassland. It was voted in 2007 as the “eighth wonder of the world”. It is in the UNESCO tentative list as a World Heritage Site since 2010. 2. Location of the Mara 3. We have all had our bouts of deep river crossing and getting stuck but luckily there have been many kind people who have helped us get out of some of these sticky situations. Despite all this we have still managed to achieve a great deal! One of the Mara Cheetah Project’s main objectives is to determine how many cheetahs there are in the Maasai Mara and to monitor these numbers over time. To achieve this we have teamed up with Dr. Arjun Gopalaswamy and we are using a spatially explicit capture recapture method to accurately estimate cheetah densities in the Mara. We are still finalising the analysis but the numbers will be out soon! This year also saw the launch of the Biomedical project, a partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Smithsonian Institution. We have managed to collect some important genetics and disease samples that we are planning on analysing in the coming year. The Mara Cheetah project has also been given permission to deploy collars on cheetahs which is an exciting achievement. The collars should give us some useful data that will give us a unique insight into cheetah movement and space use.
