YEARBOOK SUMMER 2020

בס”ד Summer 2020 Issue #1 JULY 2ND, 2020

Parshas חקת/בלק Looking Forward to SDC 2020!! 8:11pm בס”ד Summer 2020 Issue #2 JULY 10th, 2020

Parshas פנחס Sensational Second Week! 8:08pm DIRECTOR RABBI TAUB The last bus has just pulled out. The last car has left. The last piece of lost & found has been found. The last knish has been knished. The last splash in the pool has been splashed. The last squirt of hand sanitizer has been squirted. And to think that just 9 weeks ago we weren’t sure that we would be allowed to have camp this summer! B”H Simcha Zoom Camp never had to happen! On one hand, I reflect on the massive amounts of pumping ruach we enjoyed throughout the past 8 weeks. The hilarious dress up days, the shows, the crazy lunch challenges, the giant 50 foot slide at carnival, the Seasons Express trips for Simcha Bucks, the pies of pizza, the sodas, the amazing canteen, $36,500 that we raised for Chai Lifeline, the sports, the leagues and the swimming. And how can I forget the greatest COLOR WAR EVER! All these events were experienced with just the right amount of competitiveness, excitement and middos that are a trademark of SDC. Every camper has grown in some way, whether in sports ability, swimming levels or connection to Hashem and learning his Torah in our Learning Groups. But now what? Now it’s back to serious old life, with teachers and books, homework and looks, ifyouknowwhatimean! I won’t be greeting carpools of excited campers each morning as they rush inside to daven, learn and play. I won’t be able to meet the most amazing head staff, RABBI SUDWERTS, RABBI POLTER, RABBI ROSENBLATT, RABBI GOLDSTEIN, RABBI SAMET, RABBI DONNY RUDANSKY, RABBI HILDESHAIM, RABBI SOKOL and RABBI MEYER. I won’t be able to watch CAMPERS and STAFF getting closer to HASHEM, under the guidance of בס”ד Summer 2020 Issue #3 JULY 17th, 2020

Parshas מטות/מסעי Tremendous Third Week! 8:04pm RABBI TAUB CONTINUED... their wonderful RABBEIM and RABBI ROSENBERG. I won’t be able to meet MRS. RUBINOFF, MRS. VADOFF, MRS. FRIEDMAN and ELIYAHU TUSK for an impromptu office meeting of grave importance. I won’t be able to lend my car to YIDEL to run important errands or to give cold water to the masses. I won’t be greeted by the nicest good morning each day from MR. EVERETT FORTUNE. I won’t be able to marvel at how MORAH ETTY runs the tightest, smoothest JUNIORS division ever, with her best right hand daughters MORAH ESTI and MORAH LONI. I won’t see the cutest, most adorable and creative Arts & Crafts projects created and instructed by MRS. GARBARSKY and MRS. ROSS with their amazing assistants. I won’t see campers learning new swimming skills under the tutelage of MR. ERIC MASLIN and his crew. I won’t be able to appreciate how well RABBI KRASNOW takes care of our 9 acre campus daily. I won’t be able to eat MRS. LEVY’S delectable food any more. And last but most important, I won’t get to see so many happy campers having a great time! Now what? How will I ever smile again? One thought breaks through the clouds and gives me comfort. In only a few months we will meet back here, on this very same amazing campus! We will keep alive those warm memories of the sun on our faces and the excitement in our bones as we swam, slid into home, scored a goal and kicked the ball to kingdom come, only to do it all again! These 36 days of fun will keep us ignited for the next 325 odd days of school and get us ready for SUMMER 2020 IN YERUSHALAYIM! Can’t wait! Have a great year! Keep in touch! Rabbi A. Taub Mexican Day ASSISTANT DIRECTOR RABBI SUDWERTS Planning for 2 months of camp is a 10 month proposition. The moment the last bus pulls out of the lot we are back in the office preparing for the following summer. There are so many minute details that go in to ensuring that SDC is the most rocking, awesome place in the entire world. RABBI TAUB and I meet almost daily in the fall and winter and weekly with our amazing head counselors, RABBI POLTER and RABBI ROSENBLATT. By February most of the trips and entertainers are booked and staff interviews are underway. Obviously things really start heating up Purim time and as soon as the Pesach dishes are packed back into the boxes in the basement camp is the #1 priority on all our minds. That’s how it goes in a regular year… but this spring was NOT REGULAR! Due to the uncertainty in the world, orders were placed on hold, trips were left “penciled in” but not finalized, staff weren’t sure if they should apply, parents were hesitant to register as the summer was one big, giant ? And then on June 2nd the governor announces that day camps will be allowed to open…amazing!! But with what rules? Will we be able to run our camp safely and still have fun? Swim? Sports? Trips? Buses? We continue to wait with a feeling of reserved excitement as the uncertainty remains. June 10th—the guidelines come out… OK, WE CAN DO THIS!! We meet with our medical Board, come up with a plan and email the parents that there will be SDC 2020!! ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, GO!!!! The next two and a half weeks went by in a blur as camp became a reality. To sit here on the last day of camp and reflect on a summer that was so grand, so smooth and so amazing, while remembering

RABBI SUDWERTS CONTINUED... that most of it was put together in just 2 short weeks, with a whole new set of guidelines (hmmm…carpools, questionnaires, Purell, temp checks, masks, double bunks, no trips, more Purell, “hot spots”) to ensure the safety of our staff and campers, I must thank Hashem for this incredible (and severely needed) bracha! “ay di di diy diy day, THANK YOU HASHEM…” WE DID IT!! Our office staff of MRS. RUBINOFF, MRS. VADOFF and MRS. FRIEDMAN were a constant source of calm and professionalism and always with a smile on their faces. YIDEL, YOU…ARE…THE…MAN!!! RABBI KLEINMAN, our unparalleled Medical Director, was on top of every single aspect of the safety and health of our precious campers with the calmest and most reassuring demeanor. His smile alone healed most of the booboos that entered his office. R’ SHLOMO KRASNOW and his tireless maintenance crew awakened a dormant 9 acre campus, prepared it in a way they never had to before and kept it spic, span and sanitized the entire summer! A tremendous shkoyach to RABBI ROSENBERG and his amazing staff of rabbeim. Walking up and down the hallways in the morning listening to the beautiful kol tefilla and Torah, one would forget that our campers have not been in a classroom in 4 months!! B”H we can say with confidence that the SDC campers are ready for yeshiva next year. There was some uncertainty with our world renowned aquatic program, but those were clearly unjustified, as ERIC made all the necessary adjustments at the pool without missing a stroke!! He and his guards provided top notch instruction, moving boys up from level to level and ensuring a safe environment for the kids to splish and splash and cool off from the hot sun. RABBI SUDWERTS CONTINUED... Due to the last minute shuffling, we had the zchus of adding two incredible new division heads, RABBI SAMET and RABBI GOLDSTEIN, who brought years of camping experience, new energy and incredible creativity to our senior division led by the great and humble RABBI POLTER. In the MIDs, our younger campers returned to familiar faces with RABBI ROSENBLATT at the helm, caring for each camper as if they were his own kinderlach. RABBI SOKOL, RABBI HILDESHAIM and DONNY kept us all on our toes with their ingenuity and ‘out of the box’ness, filling the days with special activities, division wars, Simcha Bucks and so much more. MORAH ETTY and MORAH ESTIE had our juniors bouncing and bopping, infusing every day with fun and excitement. The newest addition from the Slansky family, MORAH LONI, the boys just never knew what to expect when they walked into her room every day. This summer was the biggest CIT program in the history of SDC! The great AVROMI MEYER stepped up to the challenge and took the program to the next level! The working CIT’S were given the skills and tools to be the counselors of the future while the Sports CIT’S were kept busy with awesome, competitive leagues. Weekly late nights were just one of the special perks of being part of this exclusive division in camp. Our COUNSELORS and JC’S, the front line soldiers, put their all into ensuring that every camper had the best experience this summer. I remember those days and I know how hard it is to be out there in the sweltering sun, day in and day out, staying for late nights, planning activities, calling parents, helping boys develop friendships, putting out fires, finding the missing croc or glove. These guys deserve a huge thank you (and a vacation!) No one ever goes hungry in SDC with the most scrumptious, RABBI SUDWERTS CONTINUED... delicious, mouthwatering meals served daily by MRS. LEVY, KOVE and the rest of the kitchen staff. It’s much more than just the taste, it’s the love and “bubbe-ness’ infused in every bite that brings us back for seconds (and sometimes thirds ) The craziest thing is to stop and realize that every single person mentioned above was literally sitting at home for the previous four months… to get back into “camp shape” so quickly is absolutely astonishing. The many sleepless nights endured by RABBI TAUB before, during and after the summer are a small testament to his devotion and commitment to ensuring that SIMCHA DAY CAMP is the absolute best camp in the world! He is the maestro of this fine-tuned orchestra and we all are the beneficiaries the beautiful symphony. A big shout out goes to our amazing PARENTS. Adjusting to a new reality can be difficult and I give you all tremendous credit for taking the adjustments in stride and trusting us with your most prized possessions. I hope we returned them even better than how we received them back in June. And the CAMPERS…oh the CAMPERS!!! You guys didn’t miss a beat! It’s like you were here all year. Your smiles and laughter filled the campus, your energy and excitement, achdus and sportsmanship were the fuel on which the camp ran for two months. We had many new, first time SDC’ERS and you were amazing! We are sure that after experiencing one summer here you are now SDC LIFERS! I wish you all an amazing, safe and accomplishing year. As I finish this I will now officially get started on SDC 2021, IY”H IN YERUSHALAYIM HAB’NUYAH!! Sincerely, Rabbi Naphtali Sudwerts Assistant Director i…DAVENING! B72 B73 B73 HEAD COUNSELOR OF THE M.I.D.’S

Hey SDC, I am not sure if you remember me. It’s your old friend NU WHAT’S DOING and SIMCHA too! You are probably wondering where I have been this past summer. I wanted to write my regular weekly round up in the Simcha Scoop but I was just too busy trying to keep up with SIMCHA. With so much going on in the world SIMCHA was busy spreading happiness wherever he went. SDC was overflowing with SIMCHA and smiling CAMPERS. While in previous years this was something that we took for granted, this summer we truly appreciated HASHEM’S gift to us. Every day was filled with exciting activities. Sports, swimming, and many special events filled each day. The MID’S were always ready and waiting to enjoy another day at SDC. None of that could have happened without the hard work of the MIDS DIVISION HEADS: RABBIS SOKOL, HILDESHAIM, and RUDANSKY made sure that each day was a fun filled happening. RABBIS TAUB and SUDWERTS made sure that the camp ran smoothly and that each CAMPER was taken care of. All of the wonderful COUNSELORS and JC’S in the 10’S, 20’S, and 30’S demonstrated their care and devotion to their campers every day. Its hard to imagine that the summer is over, but my gratitude to HASHEM is beyond words. May we all merit sharing in more SIMCHA together!!!!

Parshas דברים Fantastic Fourth Week! 7:59pm M.I.D.’S • 10’s and 20’s

What an awesome summer it has been. I have had the pleasure of working with the 10’S for the entire summer, and the 20’S for the second half. The memories I have from the summer will remain with me for many years bezras Hashem. Whether its the individual campers, the activities, or just having fun, I can’t believe that the summer has finished. I look forward to seeing all of the awesome campers and staff asap in SDC in yerushalayim bezras Hashem.

Rabbi Yoni Sokol

Let me set things straight, there is no greater place than SDC. Now, who ever would have thought that we were going to have camp this year? With the tremendous chesed from HASHEM there ending up being camp. Not just ok camp but super amazing fun filled camp!! I just want to let the 20’S know we rocked. There was no division louder then us in camp. Even though we may have lost some games against the 30’S, we rocked. We collected so many SIMCHA bucks that other divisions had to ask us for some. Know wherever you may be, whether you are sitting, standing or lying. I want you to jump up and shout 20’S rock 20’S rock!!! Rabbi Menachem Hildeshaim

Counselors – YEHUDA TAITELBUAM and MEIR CAVALIER M.I.D.’S • 30’s During the months of April, May, and June of this past year, the thing on my mind the most was what was going to be with SIMCHA DAY CAMP. I was very nervous, as I’m sure most people were, that the pandemic would close down the best camp in New York! I could not imagine a summer without SDC. I was nervous what a summer without a SDC would do to my soul and body. My soul and body requires SDC, and especially the famous SDC pool, to survive and prosper. Thank you to THE ONE ABOVE for allowing SDC to be open this summer and to RABBI TAUB and RABBI SUDWERTS for working tirelessly to make sure the camp followed the proper guidelines and was able to open. It was an unbelievable summer! I am so blessed to be able to work in a day camp during the summer; and not just any day camp- but literally the GREATEST CAMP ON EARTH!!! A lot of my friends and associates are working in offices or are in school and they sometimes ask me why I’m still working in a day camp but I just look at them and wonder what they are doing working inside during the summer months. I can not imagine spending my summers anywhere other than SDC!! Whether its swimming in the world famous olympic-sized SDC pool, walking around the tremendous SDC campus, or interacting with the amazing campers, it’s just an all-around amazing experience and I am truly blessed to be able to come here. Summer 2020 was truly a special one and one that I’ll remember for a long time. Being a DIVISION HEAD requires much hard work and dedication, and the workload can be absolutely grueling. Just joking. But honestly, it’s possible that could be true, however, I wouldn’t know thanks to the most AMAZING CAMPERS and STAFF that we have in SDC! They make my job so much easier. First and foremost, I want to start off by thanking the most amazing CAMPERS in SDC!! You guys were really an M.I.D.’S • 30’s CONTINUED... amazing bunch and I truly enjoyed being your DIVISION HEAD. Although there are a lot of you BH, you each have your own unique and fun personalities. I really enjoyed swimming and running activities with you guys. You guys were a lot of fun and I am really going to miss you! Thank you to our commanding chiefs – RABBI TAUB and RABBI SUDWERTS! I can not imagine how much work you had to put in to make this summer happen. Thanks for putting together such an amazing summer for us! On to RABBI ROSENBLATT! Our fearless MIDZ LEADER! I can honestly say that you make my job a whole lot easier. You were running three divisions and doing other things but you always seemed to have time and were always available if I ever needed help. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication! RABBI SOKOL and RABBI HILDESHAIM, it was so great and a lot of fun working with you guys in the MIDZ! RABBI SOKOOOL, aka the Voodoo Ranger, you are such a great person to work with. If everyone was like RABBI SOKOL I’m sure Moshiach would come. RABBI HILDESHAIM, when are you just going to stay for the whole summer! We really missed you. The summer definitely felt differently without you in the 2nd half. Thanks for all the fun and laughs you bring to camp. Thank you RABBI POLTER!! Most people don’t realize but you are like the glue that holds this camp together. You do so much behind the scenes, and your day does not end at 4:30, or ever right? Thanks for all your help! So happy with the new additions in the HEAD STAFF this year! YONI G. and SHAYA SAMET you guys were great! Thanks YONI G. for the rides after camp and for helping me create DONNYBALL. It was so amazing of the ESCAPE THE ROOM guy to stay and help us out the entire summer. SHAYA, you definitely were a great addition to the SDC experience. Parshas ראה Spectacular Seventh Week! 7:35pm SENIORS DIVISION HEAD

What an amazing summer it’s been! From the sports to the swimming and everything in between there’s no doubt this summer was incredible! A huge thank you to RABBI POLTER and RABBI SAMET for all their hard work. It was a great pleasure to be on the team! And of course, a huge shout out to the incredible senior division campers! You made SDC an incredible place to be each and every day! SUMMER 2020 will be the summer I will never forget!

Rabbi Yoni Goldstein SENIORS DIVISION HEAD Some of you reading this may still be wondering who I am. Who is this guy who is supposedly the 50’S DIVISION HEAD and works together with RABBI GOLDSTEIN and RABBI POLTER? He wasn’t by orientation. He never shows up to a morning staff meeting. And he’s the 50’S DIVISION HEAD?? But that’s ok. Sometimes I am not sure who I am? Am I Hawaiian or Mexican? Chinese or Israeli? But I digress. It’s been an unbelievable summer at SDC 2020. From the first day of camp, everyone here was so welcoming and accepting of me (I wonder if it had anything to do with my connection to the JUNIORS ). I felt comfortable from the start and the memories from this summer will last a lifetime. From the first day, RABBI TAUB’S enthusiasm and Ruach was permeating throughout camp. I still find myself humming those words (...SDC the place to be). I knew it was going to be a great summer, and now as I reflect back I think of all the great memories we had together. The leagues were so intense! I couldn’t believe my eyes at all the highlight reel plays I witnessed this summer. From diving catches to great pitching, SDC CAMPERS blew me away with their stellar play. Whether the boys were playing leagues, dodgeball, basketball, or any other game, the counselors were always making sure that Middos and fair play was always a priority. There was so much fun and excitement. From DR. SCHNITZEL to the Shabbos themed ESCAPE ROOM, CARNIVALS to LATE NIGHTS, RABBI SUDWERTS made sure a week never went by without action. The summer climaxed with an amazing COLOR WAR! Nobody was expecting to have COLOR WAR this year but when DAHAN went missing the CAMPERS started to realize that something was afoot. As soon as COLOR WAR was announced the campers got into the COLOR WAR mode and it was game on. TEAMS BLUE and ORANGE battled valiantly. SENIORS DIVISION HEAD CONTINUED... It was neck and neck as the teams battled through a plethora of COLOR WAR activities. The relay races ended with photo finishes. The TORAH BOWL competitions demonstrated the campers’ vast knowledge of YEDIOS KLALYIOS. During the SWIM RACES, campers showed off their Olympic skills by speeding across the pool. It all came down to the grand finale. Both teams sang beautifully, emotions flowing, as the teams went from the Hebrew song to the team cheers, culminating with alma maters that brought everyone to tears. In the end, as both teams stood together in anticipation of the final score to be announced one team was crowned champion. The orange team! Congratulations to both teams and their generals, MAX LANDSBERG of the ORANGE TEAM and SHRAGI YANKELOWITZ of the BLUE TEAM. You both led your teams as exemplary leaders. I would like to end off by thanking RABBI POLTER. Despite being the SENIORS DIVISION HEAD, it seemed like you were involved in every aspect of camp. Special thanks to AQUATICS DIRECTOR ERIC MASLIN and all the LIFEGUARDS. Every day the boys came out of the pool with smiles on their faces, looking forward to the next swim. I would also like to thank MRS. LEVY for making the best camp lunches. In all my experience in CAMPS, I never had food that was 5 star restaurant quality like yours. Whatever I needed, MRS. LEVY was always available to help. Whether it was preparing foods for lunch activities like the blind taste test, or baking special bagels for B32 when they had their special hamotzi breakfast, MRS. LEVY never shied away from what was necessary to make sure the campers needs were met. Thanks to an amazing OFFICE STAFF. You are truly the backbone of CAMP. Thanks for doing everything to keep CAMP running smoothly. Wishing everyone an amazing year. Looking forward to seeing everyone next year in SDC YERUSHALAYIM! First of all, I’d just like to start by saying: no, you cannot go to the canteen, yes, you may go to the bathroom, no, you cannot push me into the pool. Ok, now that that’s said and done, I’d like to give a shout out to all the campers who didn’t get camper of the week during the summer. You guys have no idea how guilty I felt each time I had to choose. So, just know I always felt like each of you was the camper of the week. To those who got campers of the week, thank you for being so good that you came to forefront of my mind the second RABBI POLTER caught me in the headlights that I hadn’t handed in the campers of the week yet. As you guys know, I am not the usual counselor and like to do things my own way, with a little help from my campers. So, instead of doing the stereotypical ‘if I had a dollar…’ or ‘if we were stuck on an island…’ I’ll be doing something a little more unique. Though throughout this article, I may do one of those things to appease those of you who have not stopped asking for that the whole summer/ half. Now, for the best part: the daily schedule. For all COUNSELORS and JC’S, you know what I’m talking about and I salute you for surviving this long as well. It’s the start of the day, shiur just ended and I’m already exhausted just walking up the stairs to the classroom. The second I enter the hallway and one of you guys see me, you suddenly pull half the bunk out of thin air and you’re all crowding around me asking me for the schedule even after the BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

millionth time showing it to you guys. Or even worse, I don’t have one and chaos breaks out with riots, fire, and screams. Just kidding. But sometimes it felt like it. Now, for every seventy, we all know what activities are always on our schedule even before we look at it. PK, basketball, or prom. All three are places that we COUNSELORS secretly, not secretly, dread as much as you guys do. But we all loved it in the end. We always ended up going in for stories, jeopardy, or gaga in the classroom. Having PK first always felt like coming to school and realizing you have a test first period that you have exactly five minutes to study for (something I’m sure we’ve all experienced). Everyone would be asking for a story and, after running out of stories I had already written, I had to make them up on the spot. Something each of you enjoyed, but left my brain doing somersaults. Important rule to remember when telling future seventh graders stories: none of them are allowed to have good endings. I tried once. If looks could kill… Swimming began every day the same way: me trying desperately to get everyone to change at top speed and failing miserably. After much coaxing and stress everyone would finally be ready to go and I’d trudge after them until I plopped down next to MAX at the bench by the pool and got a chance to breath. Until someone came to me with a complaint or request for another story, which usually took around .00000001 of a second. I have major PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) from lunch. BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

Fifty minutes of people playing chef by mixing everything in sight together. Not to mention the times RABBI TAUB or RABBI POLTER are making important announcement and you guys are making me laugh while I’m trying to shush you. *Cough* the expression when you spooned ice cubes from your cup and poured them down your shirt. I think everyone in camp knows about me with leagues. Lose with pride, lose with joy, lose with cookies. Never forget the cookies. The rest is history. Though big thanks to SACHIE KATZ for arranging the team when I was hopelessly clueless about what in the world I was supposed to do. What’s baseball again? Now shout outs: YOSEF ADLER: Dude, you have the most energy I have ever seen in a person. You ran circles around me on those stifling hot days when most people could barely move. EYTAN AKHAVAN: Always making random noises and expressions that always cracked me up, even when I was yelling my brains out. JOSH AKHAVAN: Keeping up the great attitude and doing amazing even when you were dehydrating or not feeling well. ELIYAHU BENCHAIM: I don’t think I heard a single complaint out of you the entire summer, which I have to say, is an incredible feat for a preteen. You always had an amazing attitude. YEHUDA BENCHAIM: Tried to pretend that you were in a sports funk, but you came through for your team with enough BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

epic catches and hits that I was absolutely awestruck. YAAKOV DOV COHEN: You always had something to bring to the conversation, quick quips, smart comebacks, and spunky lines. You were an epic factor of the bunk. AARON FEINTUCH: You were so cooperative and good spirted, you were such an amazing camper to have. And spanking good at sports, I must add. YITZY FRECHTER: Ma’ dude, you were awesome, that’s about the most precise description of your summer I could give. Special shout out to being the first person in the world to get me to put on a mitt and actually have a catch. MEIR HERSKOVITZ: Phenomenal goalie, offense, defense, catcher, batter, and everything else, you were a life saver during our games. You were also one of the only people who actually tried to do a cartwheel from my lessons. You were almost there! SACHIE KATZ: Words fail to describe what a pleasure you were to have. No joke. You saved my neck during leagues for two halves and were the best listener during stories . Eternal thanks, you were awesome. DANIEL KRIKHELI: Incredibly determined and head strong, there’s a lot of potential to go around and if you commit yourself I know you’ll make it far. MICHOEL LESSER: I was incredibly impressed this year by your good going nature and friendliness. You always made everyone feel like a million bucks. It’s a rare attitude to find nowadays, a real gift. Hold onto it. BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

EZRA LESSER: Perpetually smiling, you always made me laugh and enjoy when you were around. You were an absolute pleasure to have, especially during those rainy days when we all needed a good dose of laughter to go around. AVI MARCIANO: You asked me to do this, so I will. If I had a dollar for every time you asked to go to the canteen I would be a millionaire. Request received and fulfilled. DOVI NEUMAN: World’s best pitcher. From day one you came with a confidence that marked you as a leader. Lead well and true. CHAIM PORTNOY: I must give credit to you. I’m not a baseball guy usually, but you smack that ball so far it’s a wonder they actual end up finding it eventually. ELCHANAN RAMBOD: Ramby, I salute you, you were a real pleasure these past two years. Always cooperating, always doing the right thing, even when no one else was. It’s never easy going against a mob mentality, but gosh darn, you did it. And you did with spunk. That’s commendable. SHMUEL RICHTER: Shmuel, Shmuel, Shmuel, I am at a loss for words. You were the perfect blend of mischief, humor, smiles, and pure awesomeness. My sides are still hurting from laughing with you for so long. You always made me laugh somehow, even when I was walking around with storm clouds above my head from a hard day. You have my respect and thanks for an awesome two summers with you. P.S. you have the best innocent face. BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

AKIVA ROHR: Definitely one of the boys. Awesome at sports, great friend, and super tall. Seriously, you were like two feet tall when we met last year and all of a sudden you were taller than me. The only reason people knew I was your counselor was because of the beard. MICHAEL RUMSTEIN: You may have only been here for second half, but you left quite the impression on me. You got that je ne sais quoi (known as the ‘it’ factor to Americans, but it’s French and sounds cool so I’m putting it in. Wait, one more time: je ne sais quoi. Great now our summer is complete). YISRAEL RUTENBERG: Always pleasant to be around, you were never in a fight, always preferring to be the passive one. For that you have my eternal thanks. It’s an amazing quality to have, trust me. YAAKOV SCHWARTZ: Buddy, you were just awesome. Voted by me and Tzvi Grinner (I believe that’s how you spell his name, if not, sorry Tzvi) as the most clutch player. You come through with everything for everyone. AVRAHAM YOSEF SIMON: I’m convinced you know some sort of magic, seriously. I don’t know how you manage to get everywhere so quickly, I’m still trying to catch up. MOSHE WARMAN: Now, keep this a secret, but I admit you know more Harry Potter than me. I haven’t picked up the books since before high school I believe, but it’s still quite commendable. I rarely meet people who can rival me, courtesy to a memory that likes to remember information that I have absolutely no use for in general life. BUNK B72 CONTINUED...

SIMCHA ZEITLIN: I got to give it you, Simcha, you rock. I never ever, ever, ever, ever had trouble with you. You were an amazing camper to have and an excellent listener when it came to my stories. AJ COHEN: Dude, you saved my life. When it comes to sports I am completely lost. You came in second half and took over the sports so efficiently I didn’t know what to do with myself anymore. I had absolutely nothing to do. You were an awesome JC. I couldn’t have asked for better. MAX LANDSBERG: Basically part of the bunk, Max was the perfect Jeopardy Co-host, helping me keep everyone entertained on rainy days, (*cough* everyday really, *cough* PK). Max, my greatest thanks for all those saves. It was a pleasure to work with you. MEIR, never knew your last name, CIT: Don’t kill me, you just never told me your last name. But, I can tell you that you did a great job. Thanks especially for the escape the room. YONI BRAVERMAN: Thanks for allowing DOVI to be your assistant coach. Also, special shout out for dunking your head into that tub of water, but at least you didn’t have to wear a chicken on your head. Something I still deny ever happened. Special thanks to all the RABBI’S, THE OFFICE, my fellow COUNSELORS, all those other people who I don’t know, and the JANITOR who started singing by Olympics breakout (underrated voice, btw). And of course, special thanks to me. I survived yet again in one piece. Keep in touch, your counselor, YOEL SOIBELMAN BUNK B73 - IN 20 YEARS...

When I was picked to be General of color war 2020, I had no idea what was in store for me. The energy from the start was extremely high, And the week of competition flew right on by. It began with a kidnap of the sports shack head In exchange for our equipment, at least that’s what they said, When all of a sudden, it was color war breakout: Orange and Blue as the colors, what an interesting bout. Almost right away it became pretty clear That Ahava/love was better than Yirah/fear, But we knew that we could never be complacent Because the lead could very well flip in a matter of seconds. In the leagues and swimming, and many a relay race, The Blue team never seemed to match our pace. We were racking up points from left and right, And our ultimate victory was slowly fading into sight. At the Apache Race, our hopes were nearly crushed When Blue Captain SAM won in gaga, but only just. It wasn’t long until Orange reclaimed the lead With clutch baskets, great agility, and blinding speed. Captain AJ COHEN was a boss on “the wheels” And yet Blue was still looming right on our heels. Lieutenant NACHI’S efforts brought us ever so close, It was all up to the Generals and the Gatorade double dose. GENERAL MAX’S VICTORY GRAMMEN CONTINUED...

When Blue was still behind, the Apache for them was out of reach But SHRAGI and I still had left one Gatorade each. Every sip brought the end of the race down to the wire But we pulled it off and went 500 points higher. It all came down to the Grand Sing in the Diamond Beis Medrash As the judges entered the room hiding in ski masks All that was left was to sing our team songs And then they would finally announce the team that had won. Our team was led by DAVID ZEDNER, the Simcha maestro Who directed the Orange team through the high parts and the low, And right before the end came our hilarious skit Thanks to DAVI LEVENE it was truly a hit. With our Alma Mater song the tears flowed so strong As the anticipation built up, but not for very long. When RABBI TAUB announced the winner, all we could do Was cheer and celebrate because the victor was…ORANGE!!! As I end off this Grammen, there are so many people to thank, Just thinking of them all and my mind draws a blank. My congrats to SHRAGI, you put up an excellent effort, I know I’ll remember this color war forever. It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of the summer How can anyone truly leave Simcha, I only wonder I look forward to having even more fun IN YERUSHALAYIM, WITH SDC 2021. VERSE 2 Colo SDC rWar 2 Thank you RABBI TAUB, 020 & RABBI SUDWERTS - for all you do, To RABBI ROSENBLATT And RABBI POLTER too, And to all the UPPER STAFF, BLUE COLOR WAR GENERAL

Words cannot describe what a color war this was. But I do have one thing that comes to mind, flabbergasting. It all started with a crazy breakout. When the equipment went missing nobody was shocked, but when R’ SUDWERTS took it, that nobody expected it. As I ran into the crowd of CAMPERS, I could feel the tension in the air... Because color was here! The sports games were intense. ONE CAMPER even told me he could break my strike out streak (which is for about 2 years) and boy did that ball fly, it was just the beginning of color war miracles. We prepared the songs extremely hard, though we had no microphone. YEHUDA SHAPIRO, who I greatly thank for all his effort even though he had his sister’s chasunah, managed to teach the amazing songs he wrote. Now the apache relay race….as all CAMPERS know this a touchy subject for me… I must tell you I was running sideways. We were close. Just so close but I was one slurp away when a cheer arose in the crowd, no more will be said. The final day came, I had not slept in four nights and now the end was near. Who would win? We sang our Hebrew and cheer songs loud as can be, but so did orange. The skit was very, very funny. R’ TAUB got a little wet as well as he drank some Windex (do not try that at home). Then the alma mater. Achdus we sang with the ORANGE their song, tears filled my heart. Then came ours. It was beautiful and inspiring. I still sing it. I saw many people crying including me. Ultimately it came down to the judges’ decision…..the winning team was….ORANGE. Though broken hearted I smiled as I walked away knowing how much fun this was. You do not know what you have till you don’t have it. If I had won, I may not have known how much all the CAMPERS’ and COUNSELORS’ efforts really were. ORANGE did an amazing job. Congratulations. The memories of this color war I am sure will remain in our heart (though I think I am wearing a blue shirt forever…jk) Thank you SAM and YEHUDA for all you did for me and our teamwork was amazing. I hope you have much hatzlacha. Last but not least though, I think we did amazing!!! The HEAD STAFF thought so too just the orange had a color war miracle. Thank you HEAD STAFF for all you do for the CAMP, specifically to make an amazing COLOR WAR. Hope summer next year is not a distance away. SHRAGIE YANKELOWITZ
