FUTURE PLANS ÄÄ Academic Programmes ÄÄ Proposed New Departments to be Launched in Next Phases ÄÄ Land Acquisition ÄÄ Infrastructure Development ÄÄ Faculty Development University of Swabi 72 www.uoswabi.edu.pk FUTURE PLANS

Since its establishment in November, 2012, the university has been expanding in terms of students, staff and number of academic programs. Based on the future requirements of the faculty and students, the university has developed a detailed plan of development to be implemented in 3 phases till 2020. Academic Programmes The exiting Departments of the university are divided into the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Arts. The UOS inherited three departments viz. agriculture, management and pharmacy. But in a very short period of time, the university has now 10 departments based on the needs of the society. The University is planning to offer Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines. The new programmes will include 4-Year BS programmes, 2-Year M.Sc programmes, 2-Year M. Phil programmes, 3-5 Year PhD programmes etc. The university will launch the following departments in a phased manner. Proposed Departments to be launched in next phases Department of Animal Health Department of Department of Bio-medical Sciences Department of Library & Info Sci Department of Biotechnology Department of Mathematics Department of Department of Peace & Conflict Studies Department of Chemistry Department of Physical Edu. Department of Education Department of Physics Department of Environmental Sci Department of Political Sci Department of Department of Department of Information Tech Department of Public Admn Department of History Department of Regional & Urban Plan. Department of Jour. & Mass comm. Department of

In the course of time, more Faculties are planned to be launched and the departments will be reorganized accordingly for better management and academic excellence. The university will have the following faculties at the end of Phase-III (year 2020): I. Faculty of Science II. Faculty of Arts & Humanities III. Faculty of Agriculture IV. Faculty of Numerical Science V. Faculty of Social Sciences VI. Faculty of Earth Sciences The number of faculty members in the university during the current year will be more than 100. The projected

Annual Report 2013-14 University of Swabi www.uoswabi.edu.pk 73 strength of the faculty till 2020 is more than 600 in a phased manner. Projected figures for faculty recruitment in the university for the next phases are given in the figure below:

Land Acquisition The UOS inherited the existing land (130 kanals) and physical infrastructure (covered area 73867 sqft) from the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The existing land is not sufficient to meet the the infrastructure requirements of the university. The construction of new buildings and provision of research and allied facilities requires space in this regard. It is intended that the university buy its own per- manent land and to construct necessary infrastructure over there. A PC-I of Rs. 300.0 million was approved by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to accquire land meas- uring 1432.9 Kls adjacent to the existing campus. The process of acquisition has been finalised and construc- tion of boundary wall around the land at the cost of 100 million rupees will soon be initiated. Tender notice to hire the services of reputable consultant for master planning has been advertised. It is hoped that the university will get a state-of-the art building very soon. Infrastructure Development Once the proposed academic programmes are launched, the existing enrolment of students is envisaged to be increased to 10,000 till phase-III of development. The university will, therefore, have to expand in terms of number of students and diversity of disciplines for catering to the need of higher education for local population as well as students for other parts of the province. The University is planning to invest in providing facilities as part of its commitment to providing a world-class student experience and research environment. The invest- ment in the first phase will include construction of new academic blocks, central library and up-gradation of existing departments to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities to the students. In next phases, hostels, administrative block and cafeteria and other necessary infrastructure will be developed. The significant future investment will deliver new world-class facilities together with ongoing improvement and refurbishment of our existing infrastructure. This will support the university to develop enrich the student experience by providing a stimulating environment in order to achieve teaching, learning and research excellence.

Annual Report 2013-14 University of Swabi 74 www.uoswabi.edu.pk

The University will also develop community facilities for its students, employees, families and even the com- munity at large. A Student Service Center, Museum, Sports Complex, Community Center etc are planned to be developed in the next developmental phases. Faculty Development The university will also focus on establishing a well-articulated, systematized path for professional development of the faculty through provision of Ph.D / Post-doc fellowships. Thus, it will enable the university to achieve its objective of improving quality of higher education through capacity building of the faculty. This will also help in development of strong Science & Technological and Research & Development base in the university.

Faculty Development Programme Rationale: Professional development and capacity building of the faculty, University of Swabi will be made through a comprehensive and structured Faculty Development Programme. It will include: • MS leading to PhD and PhD foreign scholarships
