Safety & Security Our hotel has the latest in safety & security. It is a fully sprinklered building, however, emergencies do happen.

Upon arriving at your room, please locate the nearest fire exit and familiarize yourself with the fire alarms and extinguishers. The next step is to carefully examine the evacuation plan posted on the back of your door, Furthermore, counting the doors between your room and the nearest fire exit, and remembering how many there are, may be an enormous help in a smoke-filled hallway.

Know your Room’s Layout Knowing the layout of your room may be very important to you. In case smoke or flames block your escape, you may have to stay in your room and await rescue. Your chances of surviving a hotel fire are often much better if you remain in your room protected from smoke and gases, rather than trying to make a hazardous escape. Start by placing your room key near your bed so you can find it easily, if necessary. You will need your key to regain entry to your room if smoke or flames block your escape route.

In Case of Tornado Hotel Saint Louis is located in St. Louis City, Missouri. Local news stations will broadcast tornado watches and warnings to a large viewing audience surrounding St. Louis City, therefore, there is no need for concern unless St. Louis City is under threat directly. The Weather Alert Sirens will sound in St. Louis if there are severe thunderstorm warnings or worse weather (a tornado) warrants taking precautionary measures.

In Case of Fire, Take Proper Action! If a fire breaks out in your room, get out immediately and close the door tightly behind you to keep the hall free of smoke and flames. Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station. If possible, you should report the fire to the hotel operator and she/he will contact the Fire Department. In the event that fire breaks out in another part of the building, you may be alerted by the fire alarm, announcements over the PA system, or by the sound of sirens outside.

In Case of Fire – Here’s What You Should Do 1. If your key is handy, take it and head for the door. If smoke is in your room, roll out of bed and crawl to the door. Stay low because smoke and deadly gases rise. The freshest air is nearest the floor.

2. Feel the door for heat with the back of your hand. If the door or handle is hot, do not open it. If you do not feel heat from the door, open it slowly. Be ready to slam it shut if necessary.

3. Check the corridor. If it looks clear and passable, walk to the nearest exist. If smoke is visible, crawl to make your escape. Close the door behind you as you leave. If smoke is present, stay close to the wall as you crawl to the exit. Count the doors as you go. If your primary escape is blocked, use and alternative one or return to your room. Do not use the elevators.

4. Walk down the exit stairwell to the ground level and safety. Remain as calm as you can and hold the handrail as you descend for guidance, and to guard aginst being knocked down by other occupants. If smoke becomes dense as you descend the stairway, it may be better to exit the stairway on another floor. If You Must Stay In Your Room Due to Door Heat, Smoke, and/or Flames in the Corridor – Here’s What To Do

1. Wet down towels and sheets to block the smoke entry. To prevent smoke from seeping in, place the wet towels and/or sheets around doors and cracks. Cover your nose and mouth with a cloth to cut down on the amount of smoke you may inhale. Also, turn off the heat or air conditioning to prevent smoke entry through the ventilation system.

2. Fill the tub/sinks with water. The ready supply of water might be used for fighting the fire. Use your ice bucket to bail water.

3. If the phone works, call the operator so that she/he may contact the Fire Department. Make sure you tell them where you are. You may also be able to signal fire fighters by waving the sheet from the inside of your window since your windows do not open.

4. If smoke is evident in your room, remove the drapes and curtains, Do not break open the windows as smoke may be pulled into the room from the outside. You are usually better off staying in your room is above the third floor. 5. If all else fails, you may be forced to exit your room. Remember to crawl low in smoke-filled areas and try to remain calm.

Traveler’s Safety Tips Do not answer the door in your room without verifying who it is. If a person claims to be an employee and you have not called for service, call the front desk and ask is someone from our staff is supposed to have access to your room and for what purpose.

When returning to the hotel late in the evening, use the main entrance of the hotel. Be observant and look around before exiting your car in parking lots.

Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and use all of the locking devices provided.

Do not needlessly display guest room keys in public or carelessly leave them on restaurant tables, or other places where they can be easily stolen.

Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry.

Do not invite strangers to your room.

Place all valuables in your vehicle’s trunk. Never leave items in plain site.

Check to see that any connecting room doors are locked.

If you see any suspicious activity, please report your observations to the hotel desk. Dial “0.”
