On this page is a letter sent from the Board of Directors of the Spryfield Business Commission (SBC) to the HRM Mayor and Members of Council expressing our concerns with proposed changes to the Herring Cove Road, resulting from a report of the HRM Transportation Standing Committee. Mayor Savage and Members of Council Halifax Regional Municipality As many of you will know, we went through this exercise with HRM approximately 10 years ago and were forced May 5, 2021 to gather over 5000 names on a petition signed by local residents to have our concerns dealt with. RE: HRM Transportation Standing Committee Report – March 25, 2021 Herring Cove Road Bus Lane and Active Transportation Infra- We fear that Council is going down the same path they did structure years ago and we hope they will be open to discussing this matter. Dear Mayor Savage and Members of Council,

First, let me thank you for the work you do in your capacity as repre- sentatives of the people of HRM. It is a daunting task, and you are to be commended for what you do.

I write to you on behalf of the Members of the Spryfield Business Commission, those Members with Commercial properties along the SBC Business Improvement District corridor, which in part, is in the subject area of the above referenced report.

We want you to know that we are in favour of improving the traffic flow along this corridor, however, we are not convinced, nor do we believe the members of the public are convinced, that the plan pro- posed in this report will accomplish improved traffic flow along this corridor.

We are completely in favour of sidewalk improvements and incor- porating bike lanes with the sidewalks as shown in Scenario 2 on page 7 of the report. We are not in favour of the hideous looking bike lanes proposed in Scenario 1. In fact, for those of us who use this artery daily, we know that the traffic flows extremely well in the areas that have been widened, as per the vision of Council in the 1970s, and the back-ups occur where it narrows, particularly where the road narrows before the Herring Cove Road and the Purcell’s Cove Road merger and leading to the Armdale Round-About.

It is our intention to survey our Members on this issue and to widely The picture above shows two scenarios of the proposed circulate the Report with residents of Spryfield and surrounding changes. While the SBC is more favourable to scenario 2, communities to gauge the appetite for these changes. we still are concerned that it is not clear what exactly the Municipality will do. We would like an opportunity to express our views on this matter to Council directly, in person preferably or by Zoom if necessary, The SBC wants to know what you think of this proposal and look forward to hearing from you in this regard. Thank you very and are asking you to please take a minute and let us much for your attention to this matter. know by filling out a brief questionnaire which has a Sincerely space for your personal opinion as well.
