Some citizens have com- plained about iron in their water, sometimes staining laundry and fixtures; while others have complained about the smell. Other citizens have encountered no problems. Monday’s work session is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Women’s Club Room on the second floor of the Memorial Building. Several citizens complained about the city’s water at the commission’s June 24 meeting, as reported in the Daily Globe. Commissioner Jim Mil- dren told the assembly he asked a lot of people and not one of them like the discol- ored water right after the city flushes its lines. David Ward, of South Curry Street, questioned Mil- dren’s statement. Ward said his water makes his house smell like chlorine. At the meeting, Mayor Annette Burchell suggested citizens call the city’s water Tom LaVenture/Daily Globe department about any water CHILDREN LINE up to knock the pins down as fast as the volunteers can stand them up during the sidewalk bowling activity Wednes- quality issues. day, as part of the pre-Fourth of July events on Sophie Street in downtown Bessemer. Morgan scored the go-ahead goal and Naeher pre- served the 2-1 semifinal victory over England by smoth- ering a late penalty kick Tuesday night. The top-ranked United States will now face the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between the Netherlands and Sweden in the Americans' third straight appearance in the World Cup title match. Christen Press – who started with Megan Rapinoe out with a hamstring injury – put the United States up early but Ellen White's goal tied it before 20 minutes had passed. Morgan's sixth goal of the tournament came before the break, and on her 30th birthday. She hadn't had a goal since she scored five in the team's 13-0 rout of to open the tournament. After her goal, Morgan pantomimed a sip of tea on the field. "I feel like this team just has had so much thrown at us, and I felt that we didn't take the easy route to the final this tournament, and that's the tea," she said. White's goal was also her sixth but Morgan has the edge for the tournament's Golden Boot with three assists. White appeared to score her seventh in the 69th minute but video review determined she was offside – and the Americans in the crowd of 53,512 at Stade de Lyon roared. Another video review went against the United States late in the game when it determined Becky Sauerbrunn had fouled White in the penalty area. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 A monthly publication by the Daily Globe focusing on today’s active adults yourdailyglobe.com HAPPY 243RD BIRTHDAY Oooo! Ahhhh! Ohhhhh! Wakefield ready to roar with tonight’s fireworks show By P.J. GLISSON [email protected] WAKEFIELD – When Wakefield mayor John Granato describes his town’s fire- works, he doesn’t hold back. “This is huge,” he said of the “Lightning on the Lake” event, which is set for 10 p.m. tonight on Sunday Lake. “It’s one of the biggest shows in the U.P.” Granato, who chairs Wakefield’s fire- works committee, formerly served as the city’s lead man on electric and water, and he also was the city’s fire chief for a couple years. That experience has been useful during his 39 years in organizing the fireworks display as part of each year’s celebration of Independence Day. Granato and some of his team took time this past weekend, as well as on the day of last year’s fireworks, to explain to the Daily Globe the steps that make the annual event possible. A lot has changed over the decades, the mayor made clear. “Originally, we lit the fireworks with flares by hand,” said Granato, who added P.J.
