No. 322 of 2013 DISTRICT COURT DISTRICTS AND AREAS (AMENDMENT) AND VARIATION OF DAYS AND HOURS (DOIRE AN FHÉICH, AN SPIDÉAL, GALWAY, BALLYCONNELL AND SWANLINBAR AND CAVAN) ORDER 2013. The Courts Service, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 26 of the Courts of Justice Act 1953 (No. 32 of 1953), as amended by section 43 of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act 1961 (No. 39 of 1961), section 16 of the Courts Act 1971 (No. 36 of 1971) and section 29 of the Courts Service Act 1998 (No. 8 of 1998) and after consultation with the President of the District Court, hereby orders as follows: 1. (a) This Order may be cited as the District Court Districts and Areas (Amendment) and Variation of Days and Hours (Doire an Fhéich, An Spidéal, Galway, Ballyconnell and Swanlinbar and Cavan) Order 2013. (b) This Order shall come into operation on 1st September, 2013 2. The First Schedule to the District Court (Areas) Order, 1961 (S.I. No. 5 of 1961), is hereby amended by— (a) The deletion at reference 7 for the matter in columns (2), (3), (4) and (5), (b) The substitution at reference 10 for the matter in columns (4) and (5) of the following: Cavan— “The area comprising the Electoral Divisions First, Second, Third and Fourth Thursday in of Ardue, Arvagh, Ashfield, Ballintemple, each month and Second Tuesday in each Ballyconnell, Ballyhaise, Ballymagauran, month.     Cavan County Council Rates Archives service Cavan County Council Rates Until recent times, the main income of local authorities was derived from rates charged on property. Before the introduction of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, the principal local taxes were the county cess (collected by the Grand Jury), the poor rate (collected by the Boards of Guardians) and various rates paid in towns including water and improvement rates. After the 1898 Act, the rates were amalgamated into the poor rate for the county. In municipal areas there were additional rates made for particular which were consolidated into one municipal rate during the period 1930-46. County councils, county boroughs and borough corporations and urban district councils are rating authorities, but since 1946 town commissioners are not. The main archives created by the rating activities of local authorities are rate books. These volumes record the names and addresses of ratepayers and the amounts paid. They are arranged by electoral division and townland. The amount due in rates is based on the valuation of the property as set out in the valuation list. The rate books were written annually with the amounts due by each ratepayer and were open for public inspection for a period.     THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.

    In order to be a registered voter a person had to have a freehold property. A freeholder was a per son who possessed his estate, whether i n land or houses, . in fee (i. e. for himself and his heirs fvrever), or on a lease for one or more lives. Since 1793 catholics who held such freeholds were eligible to vote. The number of regi stered voters in Co .Cavan in 1826 is officially given as 7814, of whom 486 wer e £50 freeholders, 218 £20 freeholders and the rest, 7, 110 fort y-shi lling freeholders. Almost all the forty­ shilling freeholders were leasehold freeholders. A landlord created these freeholds pr imar i ly i f not exclusively in order t o create hi s political power, f or it was the accept ed pract ice that a freeholder cast his vote f or hi s landlord or f or the person whom the landl ord designated. If he vot ed aga inst his landl ord ' s desite, he could easily find himself 1. denied a renewal on the death of t he person on whose life he had t aken the lease 2. called on t o pay arrears of r ent. It was t hus a hazar dous venture eSPeci a lly on t he pa rt of a f orty shilling freeholder, who was poor and utter ly dependent on his patch of land, t o d1sobey his land lor d ' s wi sh on election day. No. 611 of 2018 COUNTY OF CAVAN LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS AND MUNICIPAL DISTRICTS ORDER 2018 I, JOHN PAUL PHELAN, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 23 of the Local Government Act 2001 (No. 37 of 2001) and having regard to section 28(1)(d) of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 (No. 1 of 2014) and the Housing, Planning and Local Government (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order 2017 (S.I. No. 473 of 2017), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the County of Cavan Local Electoral Areas and Municipal Districts Order 2018. 2. (1) The County of Cavan shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order. (2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area. (3) The number of members of Cavan County Council to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area. 3. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to an electoral division shall be construed as referring to such electoral division as existing at the date of this Order.
