Until the spring of 2015, the board membership requirements consisted of a year or more of service to the organization before board membership was granted and 3 of the current board members went through this process. In the year 2015, the Mid-South Pride Board decided to open the membership to those community members who have shown an intense interest in committing to the organization and its future success. Through this process, the board has grown to its current number of 11 members and their combined talents have contributed to growth of the organization to be the best it can be. It takes an enormous amount of work to orchestrate the Annual festival and parade every year and the work can feel like it’s never done, but every member will tell you that it is worth every second. Membership is 100% volunteer and every member of the Mid-South Pride Board signs on to not only work endless hours on projects, events, and sponsorships, but they sacrifice personal time with friends and family also. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PUBLICATION File Name: 18a0472n.06 No. 17-6291 UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE SIXTH CIRCUIT JOHN MCGLONE; JEREMY PETERS, as ) individuals, ) ) Plaintiffs-Appellants, ) ) v. ) ON APPEAL FROM THE ) UNITED STATES DISTRICT METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF ) COURT FOR THE MIDDLE NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY, ) DISTRICT OF TENNESSEE TENNESSEE, ) ) Defendant-Appellee. ) BEFORE: BATCHELDER, MOORE, and LARSEN, Circuit Judges. ALICE M. BATCHELDER, Circuit Judge. John McGlone and Jeremy Peters were ordered to leave a public sidewalk, or else face arrest, for preaching against homosexuality outside of an LGBTQ pride festival in downtown Nashville. Nashville enforced this restriction against the preachers because of the anti-homosexuality content of their speech. Because Nashville’s action does not survive strict scrutiny, it violated McGlone and Peters’ free speech rights protected by the First Amendment. The district court erred in finding otherwise. We REVERSE. I. Factual Background The central facts of this litigation are not in dispute. The Nashville Pride Festival (“Pride Festival”) was held on June 26 and 27, 2015, at Public Square Park in downtown Nashville. The stated purpose of the Pride Festival was “to celebrate the culture and community of the LGBTQ No. 17-6291, McGlone, et al. v. Metro. Gov’t of Nashville & Davidson Cty. people in Nashville in a safe space.” The Pride Festival applied for and received a special events permit. As part of its application for the permit, the Pride Festival submitted a security action plan, which was completed by Comprehensive Security (“Comprehensive”), a private security company, and approved by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”).

  • 2018 Marked the Release of the Long-AnCipated Sophomore Album from Steve Grand, Not the End of Me
About July 6, 2018 marked the release of the long-an:cipated sophomore album from Steve Grand, not the end of me. It hit #2 on the iTunes Pop Chart, #10 on Billboard's Independent Album Chart, and #78 on Billboard’s Top Album Chart. It was released independently on his own label, Grand Na:on LLC. The album includes 12 new tracks, all wriPen and composed by Grand. It also features alternate versions of 3 of the songs. Grand says of the tracks, “This album is autobiographical; very personal, somber and reflec:ve.” “Wri:ng this album was an exercise in catharsis,” says Grand. “I’m more unfiltered on this album and explore some of the internal and external challenges I’ve faced over the last few years.” The album's :tle track, "not the end of me", is a song Grand wrote when a long-:me rela:onship was coming to an end. "Breaking up can be long and drawn-out, painful and ugly. This one certainly was," Grand said. "It was trying and exhaus:ng, (and) this song deals with all of that, as well as the resolu:on that this is 'not the end of me." Grand also predicts "don't let the light in" will be a favorite among his fans. "I wrote it within the last few months before I became sober. At that :me, I was reflec:ng on the way I had been living my life over the last few years that my song 'All-American Boy' blew up, in 2013," he said.
