1 Sarajevo Halal Fair 2019 Sarajevo Halal Fair (SHF) 2019 was held from 26 to 28 September 2019 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was orga- nized by Bosna Bank International (BBI) in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Islamic Community of BiH, which successfully gathered participants from 11 countries and 57 exhibitors from all over the globe. The fair brings together repre- sentatives from all parts of the halal industry supply chain, including private companies, public listed corporations, accreditation bod- ies, government officials, and other halal market representatives.

Among the dignitaries in attendance during the opening ceremony and delivered their speeches were YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasu- tion Ismail, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Malaysia, Mr Ayman Amin Sejiny, Chief Executive Officer, Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group , Mr Sefik Dzaf- erovic, Member of Presidency of BiH, Mr Edin Forto, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Mr Israfil Kuralay, Deputy President, Cham- ber of Commerce of Istanbul and Mr Husein ef. Kavazovic, Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in BiH. YAB Prime Minister was given the honoured to deliver keynote address via video message in the beginning of the ceremony.In his keynote address, YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed hope that the event will be sustained in the coming years and become a prominent halal industry meeting point and a business platform for local and international capitalist in halal economy to network and trade one another. Given the enormous potential for growth and development of the Halal Industry, SHF could become a platform for great investments in BiH and in the region, which can meet global demand including the European market.

The speech of YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, stressed on the growing number of Muslim populations worldwide that rais- es international demand for halal products and services. According to him, the halal economy is now a truly global industry and rep- resents an exciting opportunity for the Islamic economy and while the halal market is usually associated with food and beverages, there are in fact a wide range of halal products and services in other areas including healthcare and pharmaceuticals, personal care and cosmetics, travel and tourism and financial services.

2 Working Visit by Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs

YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution undertook visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 25th to 29th of September in conjunction with the Sarajevo Halal Fair 2019. During this visit, apart from participating at the opening cere- mony of the Forum as well as being a panelist in Malaysia-Bosnia Business roundtable, YB Minister also met with Mr Sefik Dzaferovic, Member of the Presidency, Mr Denis Zvizdic, Prime Minister of BiH and Mr Abdullah Skaka, Mayor of Sarajevo.

3 62nd National Day Reception The 62nd National Day Reception was held on 13 September 2019 at Ibis Styles Hotel in Sarajevo, after a 4 year hiatus. A significant number of crowds of around 150 attending the reception despite the fact it was held on Friday evening at the tail end of summer. Among the attendees were Dr. Haris Silajdzic, former member of Presidency of BiH (Bosniak), Mr. Mustafa Ruznic, Prime Minister of Una-Sana Canton, Lieutenant General Senad Masovic, Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Mr. Had- is ef. Pasalic, Military Mufti and Mr. Hamdo Tinjak, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Mr Mirsad Besic, Chief of Protocol, captains of industries of BiH, former participants of the MTCP and MDCP, former UIA students, academi- cians, representatives from several cantons and municipalities, beneficiaries of the Malaysian Bilateral Economic Assistance, NGO’s, members of the media and members of the diplomatic corps. This year’s reception was also special when Republika Srpska was represented by its special envoy on behalf of its President, to attend the gathering.

4 ASEAN Day Celebration

ASEAN Day was celebrated on 8 August 2019 hosted by the Embassy of Malaysia at Sobol Sport Centre in Vogosca. The event was also attended by the Ambas- sadors of and as well as representative from Embassy. Among the activities held were poco-poco dance, tug of war and futsal.

5 Hari Sukan Negara

Hari Sukan Negara 2019 was celebrated with the morning hiking of 3.2 km trail on Mount Trebevic on 12 October. The mountain is fa- mous for nature walks, outing spots and to bask in to the scenic view of the city of Sara- jevo.

Visit Malaysia 2020 Networking Night Tourism Malaysia in cooperation with Islamic Tourism Centre and the Embassy of Malaysia in Sarajevo organized a Visit Malaysia 2020 Networking Night on 26 September 2019 at Hotel Hills, Ilidza. The Networking Night was in conjunction with Sarajevo Halal Fair 2019 where YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, Minister of Domes- tic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Malaysia was the Guest of Hon- or. The objective of the event was to promote Visit Malaysia 2020 to almost 100 tour operators from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cultur- al performances was presented by Chenderawasih Troupe from Embassy of Malaysia in Belgrade, Serbia.

6 MBI Development d.o.o—Vila Mak Launching by the Ambassa- dor

Ambassador Zakri Jaafar was invited to launch Vila Mak, a modern designed apartment in Ilidza. The apart- ment was constructed by MBI Development d.o.o, a Malaysian construction company based in Ilidza.

In-house Training by Account Division Wisma Putra: Roll Out of New Sub Module of i-SPLN

A in-house training on Reconciliation of Vot, Revenue and Trust Account was conduct- ed by personnel from the Account Division of Wisma Putra at the Embassy of Malaysia in Sarajevo from 12-14 November 2019. Mr Mohd Jamil Mustapa, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia in Zagreb, Croatia also participated in the programme.

7 Diplomatic Winter Bazaar 2019 Diplomatic Winter Bazaar 2019

The 2019 Diplomatic Winter Bazaar (DWB) was held on 7 December at Skenderije. The Embassy, joined other diplomatic missions to participate at the event. Malaysian food such as curry puff, and fried noodles were prepared by PERWAKILAN Sarajevo members. The famous ‘teh tarik’ was also on the menu prepared by Mr. Shamsul Fitri Mohd. Ali, Third Secretary. The Embassy’s booth gained attraction from visitors that have always looked forward to visit it for their favourite Malaysian food such as curry puff, fried noodles and chicken curry. The booth was swamped also with visitors attracted by the beautiful batik sarongs, scarves and other handicraft that put up for sale. Proceed from the sale was apportioned and donated to the Charity Committee of DWB at the end of the event. The Embassy also took the opportunity to promote Visit Malaysia 2020 during DWB in cooperation with Airways and local tour operator in BiH. The promotion campaign include the special promo fare and special promo package to travel to Malaysia in 2020.
