But that is the principle reason why, yet again, the Class posted the highest national attendance of any catamaran class in the U.K. - bar none! For me, though, it was, Sport Nationals excepted, my first time. And what a time I (and Mrs. Editor) had. It was nothing short of superb. A real showcase event for our sport, our Class and our Association. It was truly memorable. Great racing, great event management and a social side which had huge appeal across a wide age range. Sprint 15 sailing at its best. I did, however, come away with something of a new respect for regular una-riggers. All that hiking upwind for mile upon seemingly endless mile in F4-5 and heavy chop came a bit keen for the preferred Sportster in me. Talking of which, the Sport Nationals at that other spiritual home which is Instow were, once again, a resounding success for all the same reasons as Pentewan. The Instow attendance gave us third spot in catamaran National’s attendances. Only the Dart 18’s split our postings by taking second spot. And in each case, our attendance number was only down by one from last year. (By the way, if you are that one, could you please try and come along next year to both events - and bring a clubmate!) So we’re in good shape. Membership is healthy and has grown slightly over the last twelve months. It has been particularly exciting to note the number of youngsters taking part in the various competitions around the country in the summer TT series and Nationals. And doing very well, too! This is what we need to secure the future. There is a lot of time and effort being put in at many of our clubs around the country by some very dedicated people to attract new sailors to the Class. To them, we should all be grateful. If you’re reading this mag. for the first time may I bid you, “WELCOME ABOARD!”, on behalf of all the members and we hope you’ll stay with us for many years to come. As ever, my unending thanks goes to all who have taken the time to contribute to this issue. As you will read on pages 34 & 35, some things don’t change too much. My hunger for scurrilous tittle-tattle is as strong as all my predecessors - so don’t be backwards in coming forwards with it! You know it makes sense! In the meantime, whether you sail for competition or purely pleasure and company - enjoy! I hope we’ll meet up on the water soon.     Historical Portsmouth Number List The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the average performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. The numbers in the PN list may not reflect the peak performance of each boat. Historical numbers are listed below and have been collated from the RYA's archive of PN lists. It should be remembered that the Portsmouth Yardstick number list has been through a number of changes and the numbers listed below have had conversion factors applied where needed. It should also be remembered that whilst all efforts are taken for PN's not to drift, relative performance of older boats may be quite different to modern classes. The numbers are given as a starting point to help clubs arrive at a fair number and if these numbers are used then they should be reviewed regularly. Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only.

In particular, ttie requirements for maximizing thrust when sailing to windward and tacking downwind are presented. The results of water channel tests on six sail section shapes are also presented. Introduction The propulsion system is probably the single most neglect­ ed area of yacht design. The conventional triangular "soft" sails, while simple, practical, and traditional, are a long way from being aerodynamically desirable. The aerodynamic driving force of the sails is, of course, just as large and just as important as the hydrodynamic resistance of the hull. Yet, designers will go to great lengths to fair hull lines and tank test hull shapes, while simply drawing a triangle on the plans to define the sails. There is no question in my mind that the application of the wealth of available airfoil technology will yield enormous gains in yacht performance when applied to sail design. Re­ cent years have seen the application of some of this technolo­ gy in the form of wing sails on the lYRU "C" class catamar­ ans. In this paper, I will review some of the aerodynamic re­ quirements of yacht sails which have led to the development of the wing sails.     Spring 1991 $1.50 Pennsylvania • The Keystone States Official Boating Magazine Viewpoint Recently we received a letter suggesting that we were being contradictory in Boat Pennsylvania. According to one reader, we suggested that boaters wear personal flota- tion devices, but that the magazine photographs don't always show their use. Obtaining photographs for a magazine can be a difficult proposition. Sometimes we stage situations and take the photographs ourselves. More often, we rely on photographs submitted by contributors. Photos that depict the general boating public often do not show people wearing PFDs simply because the incidence of wearing them is so low. If we were to say that we would only use photos that showed boaters wearing PFDs, we would have a difficult time fmding acceptable photos. Generally, we try to show people wearing PFDs in small boats in situations in which devices should obviously be worn. On large boats, people most often do not wear their PFDs. Should people wear PFDs? Statistics show that wearing a PFD can save your life. Are PFDs needed all the time? Because accidents happen when they are least expected, wearing a PFD all the time is a good idea. Practically, however, as comfortable as the newest PFDs are, they can be excruciating on a hot July day. Many boaters also want to get a little sun. We accept this and our statistics show that the chances of having an accident where a PFD would have been a factor are much lower in the summer months. Ofcourse, circumstances do exist in which wearing a PFD,even on the hottest day, is warranted.

Het duet It Takes Two oorspronkelijk van Marvin Gaye en Kim Weston , gaat vergezeld van een 30 minuten durende videodocumentaire en een Pepsi- reclamespot. Juni '93 start Tina Turner inderdaad weer een Amerikaanse tournee. Naast drie nieuwe composities bevat deze cd voornamelijk opnieuw opgenomen werk uit haar discografie. Ike Turner doet, weer eens op vrije voeten, in juli '95 Nederland aan voor een plichtmatig optreden met een complete revue, inclusief surrogaat-Tina en nep-Ikettes. Datzelfde jaar staat Tina als eerste pop-act in de Amsterdam ArenA. Meer dan In '99 kondigen La Turner en Elton John aan samen op tournee te gaan, maar tijdens de eerste repetities krijgen de beide sterren ruzie en wordt de onderneming afgeblazen.
