The 1960s Jack Belcher – F – 1962‐64 – Best season was senior year, averaged 11.1 points per game and 6.5 rebounds, 7.2 rebounds in SEC play.

Brad Brian – G – 1965‐67 – Averaged 8.9 points in 1965 … 11.1 points in 1966 with a high of 28 vs. UCLA … Second on the team in scoring in 1967 (12.5 ppg) … Led team in assists with 3.6 per game.

Tom Conklin – C – 1959‐62 – Averaged 10.7 points per game, team’s leading rebounder (7.4) in 1960; Team leading rebounder in 1961 (9.0); 9.5 ppg in 1961.

Ellis Cooper – G – 1961‐63 – Averaged 13.8 points per game in 1961; 11.0 points in 1962 with team best 106 assists (4.4 apg); Averaged 13.9 points per game with 127 assists (5.3 per game); All‐SEC Second Team (AP); Coaches All‐SEC Team.

Dick Davies – G – 1959‐60 – Averaged 8.1 points in 1959; In 1960 led the team in average at 12.4 points per game.

Kenny Drost – G – 1965‐67 – Averaged 9.3 points in 1965, best of 22 vs. Alabama … Averaged 12.3 points in 1966 with best of 29 vs. Florida in 1966 … Averaged team best 16.5 points per game in 1967 with best game of 33 vs. Vanderbilt.

Maury Drummond – C‐F – 1961‐63 – Averaged 7.2 points per game in 1961; 8.3 rebounds; 11.8 points per game, 12.5 rebounds in 1962; All‐SEC AP 3rd Team in 1962; 10.4 points per game, 9.8 rebounds in 1963 … 16th all‐time in rebounds at LSU (736 in 72 games).

Harry Heroman – F – 1964‐66 – Second in scoring in 1965 with 14.4 average, also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game … Had season best of 29 vs. Miss. State … Led team in scoring in 1966 with 17.6 points per game and 7.7 rebounds, both team bests.

Ralph Jukkola – F – 1967‐69 – 8.2 points per game in 1967, 7.2 rebounds per game; Averaged 11.8 points per game with a team best 8.6 rebounds in 1968; In 1969, shot 50.6 percent from the field, averaged 7.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds a game. 24th in school history with 601 rebounds in 78 games (7.7 rebounds) … Second best single season percentage mark of 63.8 percent in 1968.

Howard Keene – F – 1962‐63 – Played two seasons with best average of 10.7 in 1963 … Averaged 6.8 rebounds a game.

Dick Maile – F, 1963‐65 – Averaged 14.0 points per game, 10.9 rebounds in 1963; Scored at a 20.7 pace and had 10.5 rebounds a game in 1964 (best game of 32 against Georgia); In 1965 averaged 17.1 points a game with 9.8 rebounds a game (best of 38 vs. Xavier) … First Team All‐SEC (AP and Coaches) in 1964 and First Team All‐SEC (AP, UPI, Coaches) in 1965 ... 13th all‐time in rebounds with 772 (10.4 average) ... 24th in points scored (1,284, 17.4 ppg) … average of 10.4 for career, tied for 5th best at LSU.

Pete Maravich – G – 1968‐70 – National Player of the Year 1969, 1970. Member of Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. One of three LSU basketball players to have number retired … All‐time NCAA Career Scoring leaders with 3,667 points, an average of 44.2 points for 83 games …. Averaged 44.5 in 1970, 44.2 in 1969 and 43.8 points in 1968. Scored 69 points vs. Alabama, Feb. 7, 1970 … Member NBA 50 at 50 team … Led Tigers to 1970 NIT Final Four.

George Nattin – G –1960‐62 – Averaged 13.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 1960. Team best 16.5 points per game with 4.2 rebounds in 1961. Averaged 12.7 points (13.6 in SEC games) in 1962 … Was named All‐SEC AP first team and Coaches team in 1961 and All‐SEC AP third team in 1962.

Dave Ramsden – C – 1967‐69 – Averaged 5.2 points per game in 20 games in 1967 … Best season was 1969 averaging 10.3 points per game, hitting single season field goal record of 67.5 percent from the field (112‐of‐116) … Still remains career field goal percentage leader of 64.3 percent.

Bill Wilson – C – 1963‐65 – In 1964 averaged 11.0 points per game and team best 10.7 rebounds. Averaged 10.2 points and 9.4 rebounds in 1965 … 28th on school rebound list with 543 in 62 games (8.7 rpg).

The 1970s

Floyd Bailey ‐‐ C – 1975‐78 – Had more playing time and success early in his career, including his sophomore season when he averaged 11.5 points per game and 8.1 rebounds and led the SEC in field goal percentage in 26 games hitting 59.7 percent of his shots (127‐of‐224, 1976) … Was one of LSU’s first‐modern era shot blockers, blocking what was then a building record eight shots against Miss. State (Jan. 1975).

Mike Darnall – G – 1972‐75 – Early Tiger defensive stopper in the Brown era … Eighth all‐time at LSU in assists with 299 (133 his final year) … Best scoring year was 1973 when he averaged 9.6 points per game … Averaged just under eight points for his career.

Al Green – G ‐‐ 1978‐79 – Transfer guard who played only his senior season at LSU … Second on the team in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists … High scoring game was 30 against Tulane … First Team AP and Coaches All‐SEC; Second Team UPI All‐SEC … 2nd team Converse All‐ American.

Lionel Green – C – 1976‐79 – Best year was SEC Championship year of 1979 as a senior when he averaged 9.7 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game …. Also led the team with 61 blocked shots … Had a scoring high of 26 versus Tulane and 23 rebounds versus Vanderbilt … All‐SEC third team as selected by AP and UPI … Still ranks ninth all‐time at LSU in rebounds with 809 for 107 games (7.6 average).

Glenn Hansen – F ‐‐ 1974‐75 – 36th on school scoring list with 1,027 points in 50 games (20.5 average) … Averaged 19.4 points in 1974 and 21.7 points in 1975 … In 1974 was chosen Coaches All‐SEC Team, 2nd team AP and UPI All‐SEC … Same honors were given to him in 1975.

Danny Hester – F – 1969‐70 – After averaging 9.0 in 1969, proved to be a perfect complement to Pete Maravich in the 1970 season, averaging 15.0 points per game and 10.9 rebounds … Career 50 percent field goal shooter … Had high 1970 high point game of 34 versus Tulane … All‐SEC AP third team.

Kenny Higgs – G – 1975‐78 – Single season and career leader at LSU … Dished out 645 assists during his career with his best season the school record of 239 in 1977 … In 1977 led the SEC in assist average at 8.9 per game … In 1976 and 1977 was named Coaches All‐SEC and 2nd team AP and UPI All‐ SEC … In 1978 was an All‐SEC UPI second team selection … Also scored well, averaging 18.1 points per game in 1975, 22.2 points in 1976, 17.7 in 1977 and 13.7 points in 1978 … 6th all‐time at LSU in scoring with 1,896 points for 106 games, a 17.9 average.

Jordy Hultberg – G – 1977‐80 – Averaged 12.8 points, 4.0 assists in 1977 … 9.7 points in 1978 …9.6 points in 1979 … 1,067 career points, 34th all‐time on school list, 9.3 average for 114 games.

Nelson Isley – G – 1970‐71 – Transfer from N.C. State, played just his senior season but had a great year, averaging 17.3 points per game, hitting 53.2 percent from the floor (196‐of‐368), earning All‐SEC UPI third team honors.

Ed LeBlanc – C – 1972‐76 – One of the first players in the modern era to earn four letters … Junior year (1975) averaged 13.7 points per game and 9.9 rebounds … In 1976 averaged 10.7 points per game and 10.4 rebounds … 15th all‐time at LSU in rebounds (765 in 98 games, 7.8 average).

Bob Miller – G/F – 1976‐77 – Junior college transfer who averaged right at 10 points for his two years at LSU … In 1976, was second behind Kenny Higgs in scoring for the team, averaging 12.1 points per game, hitting 50 percent of his field goals … Despite a late battle with mononucleosis that forced his out late in the year named second team transfer All‐American by Basketball Weekly … Averaged 8.9 points in 1977.

Bill Newton – F – 1969‐72 – Nicknamed “Fig” – As a sophomore in 1970 averaged 11.2 points, 9.7 rebounds … Had consistent last two years, averaging 18.8 points in 1971 and 18.9 points in 1972 … Averaged 9.7 rebounds in 1970, 12.0 in 1971 and 6.9 in 1972 … 21st all‐time in scoring (1,339 points in 84 game, 15.9 average) … 10th all‐time in rebounding with 802 boards (9.5 average) … All‐SEC UPI second team in 1971 and All‐SEC AP and UPI third team in 1972

Eddie Palubinskas – G – 1973‐74 – Australian native who averaged 18.6 points as a JC transfer in 1973 and 4.1 assists; averaged 18.4 points per game and 3.7 assists as a senior in 1974 … Coaches All‐SEC selection in 1973 and AP and UPI second team that year … UPI second team and AP third team All‐SEC in 1974 … Led the league in percentage in 1973 at 89.5 percent (137‐of‐153).

Al “Little Apple” Sanders III – C – 1970‐72 – One of the premier rebounders of his time … Averaged 12.0 points and 14.8 rebounds in 1970 … Led the team in scoring and rebounding 1971, averaging 20.9 points and 14.7 rebounds, including a then school record 26 against Miss. State … in 1972 averaged 18.3 points and 12.5 boards … All‐SEC AP third team in 1970 … Consensus All‐SEC First Team in 1971 … Coaches All‐ SEC in 1972 and AP and UPI second team that year … 18th in career scoring with 1,383 points (16.7 average for 83 games) … Third behind only Macklin and O’Neal in rebounds at LSU with 1,168 (14.1 average).

DeWayne Scales – F – 1978‐80 – Averaged 12.8 points and 9.4 rebounds to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 1978 … Named honorable mention All‐American after a sophomore season in which he led the team with 19.4 points per game and 9.1 rebounds … In his final season with the team, his junior season, averaged 16.3 points and 7.9 rebounds … was the MVP of the 1980 SEC Championship game … Third Team AP All‐SEC in 1978 and a consensus All‐SEC selection in 1979 … Second Team All‐SEC in 1980 … 19th in career points (1,357 in 84 games, 16.2 average); 17th in rebounds (733, 8.7 average).

Collis Temple, Jr. – C ‐‐ 1972‐74 – Averaged 6.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 1972, 9.0 points and 6.9 rebounds in 1973 and career bests of 15.0 points (16.0 in SEC play) and 10.5 rebounds (11.1 in SEC) in 1974 … In last two years combined shot over 57 percent from the floor … 22nd all‐time on rebound list with 607 (8.1 a game) … UPI third team All‐SEC in 1974.

Bill Whittle – F – 1971‐73 – Best season was his senior year when he averaged 11.1 points per game and 6.2 rebounds a game.
