CLUB NEWS ABERYSTWYTH TOWN www.atfc.org.uk Club Chairman Tony Bates announced last Wednesday proposals for major new developments at Park Avenue during an Extraordinary General Meeting of the club. The proposals concern a potential £13M development in collaboration with Tai Ceredigion, which would see 80 new flats being built down the River side of the Stadium. The project would also bring a substantial investment in club facilities, in the form of a brand new 500-seater stand, a clubhouse and restaurant facility, ancillary rooms, community facilities and a dedicated youth centre. Central to the business plan would also be the instillation of a 3G pitch to ensure Park Avenue becomes a hub of community activity throughout the week. The finance for the flats, stand and other facilities will be provided by Tai Ceredigion with the FAW funding 90% of the 3g pitch costs of £400,000 The EGM unanimously welcomed the proposals for this iconic development, and if all goes to plan work should begin in September 2014. Club Chairman Tony Bates told atfc.org.uk this morning: "Although there are a number of hurdles yet to be overcome, both Tai Ceredigion and Aberystwyth Town Football Club are committed to making this exciting scheme work." At the EGM it was also agreed that Only those persons who are either a Life Vice President or an Honorary Life Vice President or who have paid the annual Vice President’s subscription of Aberystwyth Town Football Club (“The Club”) shall be eligible for membership of the Company. The Club AGM announced an 5% annual loss of £12,104 on a turnover of £215,905, and the Board of Directors were re-appointed en bloc. ! AFAN LIDO FC www pit hero o lu s afanli ofoot all lu No news. Hughes takes his Robins to Holywell Town on Saturday for a last 16 tie in the Welsh Cup. In an interview with Robins’ Pressman Jonny Drury on Friday he said: “The lads haven’t had a competitive game for four or five weeks now and that has really sharpened their focus. “They just want to get out there and play now. We have been preparing in training and the lads have trained really well. It’s been frustrating for them and for the staff but there isn’t a great deal you can do about the weather.” Saturday will be the fourth time the tie has been arranged, with two postponements at Latham Park, and one at Halkyn Road which fell foul to the weather last week. Despite the Wellmen sitting three leagues below the Robins in the Welsh Alliance Division one Hughes knows his side can’t let complacency creep in on Saturday. He said: “We are confident in our own ability and we are a good side. “But that confidence can turn to complacency sometimes. That won’t be the case with our players on Saturday. They’re flying high in the Welsh Alliance at the moment but we are the Welsh Premier League side and we want to go there and put in a good performance and win the game.” The winner of Saturday’s rearranged clash will go on to face Porthmadog at home in the last 16. And Hughes has said that he isn’t looking to that game and wants to take every game as it comes. He said: “I think to look to the quarter final would be disrespectful to Holywell. “You have to respect them and the competition. It’s the old adage of taking every game as it comes, and that is important to do in the cup. “You can’t take your eye off the ball and look ahead. That’s when shocks can’t happen and we will make sure that isn’t the case.” Hughes will be without his trio of new signings on Saturday with James Bloom, Neil Mitchell and Lance Jones all cup tied. Shane Sutton is also serving a one match ban and Chris Mullock is ineligible. DEFENDER Max Penk has said he is delighted with the run he has had in the side so far this season. Despite stiff competition from Iain Edmunds and James O’Neill Penk has been the Robins regular left back this term and has been pleased to help in their impressive run. He said: “It’s been very pleasing to have great run in the side at left back this season, especially with the run that the side has been on. “Myself, Shane and Kieran have been playing alongside each other for three years now and I think we have grown stronger as a unit, and the addition of Craig has only added to that.” Penk was brought in by Bernie McNally in his first season in charge after being on the books as a scholar at Wrexham. And he believes that over his time at the club, the side has shown signs of progressing as a team and making the top six. Penk said: “I think over the past three seasons we have always shown signs of what we can do, and that we can progress into a top six side. And we have proved that this season. “And it’s nice to have the chance to play against the better sides in the league, and hopefully we can achieve some good results and not take our foot off the gas.” Penk will be in the squad as the Robins face Holywell this weekend in the last 16 of the Welsh Cup. And the defender believes a good cup run would be an added bonus to an already successful season. He said: “A good cup run would be great and definatly be a bonus to us. “But firstly as long as we are in good form when the play-offs arrive we will be happy. And that will then give us the chance of Europe.” FOLLOWING Saturday’s Welsh Cup defeat manager Chris Hughes has called for a quick response from his team ahead of the start of the second phase. Hughes saw his Robins side go into the break at Halkyn Road 3-0 down. Goals from Matt Hearsey and Tom Goodwin in the second half pulled it back for Newtown, but they couldn't force extra time. And speaking after the game Hughes has said his side need to respond quickly. He said: "The players need to pick themselves up now and pick themselves up quickly. "We have 10 days now until we face Bangor and we need to respond because if we don't, it is going to be a long season." Hughes also highlighted that his side need to stop conceding silly goals, which ultimately cost them a place in the quarter-finals. He said: "It's never nice to lose and it is a massive disappointment. And to lose in the manner that we did, conceding sloppy goals is an unhealthy trait we have at the moment. "Looking at the game overall I think we dominated but we weren't good enough in both boxes but we couldn't get over the line. And it is always going to be difficult when you go three goals down from giving them cheap goals." Overall Hughes dubbed his side’s performance 'careless' and stated you can't make mistakes like they did and expect to get away with it. We had a reaction in the second half and had a couple of shouts for a penalty and created chances. But we were careless, it was a careless performance. "We were 2-0 down early on but got gold of the game and thought if we scored it would make them nervy, which it did in the second half but the third goal right on half time was a massive blow. We can't make errors like that at this level and expect to get away with it."! I finally managed to experience some football once again last week. I had intended to watch Aberystwyth twice and following their impressive victory at Afan Lido on Tuesday – I was really looking forward to their important clash against Bala on Friday night. I was in the area by mid-afternoon and the heavens just opened relentlessly for well over an hour which left parts of unplayable. I know that Kevin Parry was as disappointed as anyone that the game couldn’t go ahead – the weather hasn’t allowed him to be the man in the middle at all yet during 2014. As you can imagine there were a lot of frustrated people around the place but I must thank the officials for their professional judgement. I must also express my gratitude to the vast majority of people for their understanding and civil behaviour considering the unfortunate circumstances. Saturday gave me the opportunity to watch Airbus against The New Saints. I have seen better first halves but thoroughly enjoyed the second period as the Wingmakers proved once and for all that the title race is not a foregone conclusion. Stewart Roberts has announced that he’s leaving the Airfield for business pastures new. He must be proud of how the club has developed during his time there as the Chief Operations Officer. It was good to see him at the match on Saturday still supporting the club. At the third time of asking, Port Talbot finally played Llanidloes Ladies in the semi- final of the inaugural WPWL Cup. The visitors won 1-0 on Sunday following extra time and have now earned the right to face Cardiff Met in the final at the end of the month. Congratulations to both clubs and thank you for taking the time to read the article.

Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel O’r diwedd fe gefais y cyfle i wylio gemau unwaith eto’r wythnos hon a braf o beth oedd hynny. ‘Roeddwn wedi bwriadu gwylio dwy o gemau Aberystwyth ac ar ôl tystio eu perfformiad clinigol yn Lido Afan nos Fawrth ‘roeddwn yn edrych ymlaen at yr ornest ym Maes Tegid nos Wener. ‘Roeddwn yn ardal Y Bala erbyn ganol prynhawn pan benderfynodd y glaw a’r cenllysg rhyfeddaf daro gan effeithio’n andwyol ar rannau penodol o’r maes. ‘Doedd neb ym Maes Tegid yn fwy siomedig na’r dyfarnwr Kevin Parry na fyddai’r gêm yn cael ei chwarae – yn enwedig gan bo’r tywydd garw wedi arwain at ohirio pob un o’i gemau hyd yma yn 2014. ‘Doedd hi’n ddim syndod bod cryn dipyn o rwystredigaeth yn amlwg gan bod carfan Aberystywth a’u cefnogwyr wedi cyrraedd y maes ond mae’n rhaid i mi ddiolch i Kevin Parry am ei waith di-duedd dan amodau anodd. Hoffwn hefyd ddiolch i fwyafrif llethol y bobl dderbyniodd y penderfyniad gyda dealltwriaeth ac urddas. Ddydd Sadwrn cefais y pleser o wylio Airbus yn herio’r Seintiau. Er nad oedd llond trol o gyffro’n yr hanner cyntaf llwyddodd yr ail gyfnod i gynhesu’r galon ar brynhawn oedd yn gafael. Profodd Airbus unwaith ac am byth y bydd yn rhaid i’r Seintiau fod ar eu gorau tan ddiwedd y tymor os ydyn nhw am ddal eu gafael ar y bencampwriaeth. Cyhoeddodd Stewart Roberts yn ystod yr wythnos ei fod am adael ei swydd gydag Airbus er mwyn dilyn cyfleoedd busnes eraill. Dylai fod y falch o ddatblygiad y clwb yn ystod ei gyfnod gyda nhw a braf o beth oedd ei weld yn cefnogi’r clwb ddydd Sadwrn. Hoffwn achub ar y cyfle yma i longyfarch tîm merched Llanidloes wedi iddyn nhw guro Port Talbot ym mhedwar olaf Cwpan y Cynghrair brynhawn Sul. Daeth y fuddugoliaeth yn amser ychwanegol a byddant yn herio Met Caerdydd yn y ffeinal ddiwedd y mis. Llongyfarchiadau i’r ddau glwb a diolch i chi am fynd i’r drafferth o ddarllen fy mhwt wythnosol
