Previous meetings • The clubs are meeting for the first time in what is Dundalk’s first competitive encounter with Polish opponents. • Legia first faced Irish opponents when they took on Dublin side Saint Patrick's Athletic in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round; they drew 1-1 at home but recorded a 5-0 win in the away leg. Match background • Dundalk made it through two rounds of a UEFA competition for the first time in reaching the play-offs, beating FH Hafnarfjördur and BATE. • They are angling to become the first Irish side to reach the group stage of UEFA's top club competition, Shamrock Rovers having been the first League of Ireland outfit to make it to the UEFA Europa League group stage in 2011/12. • Legia got past Zrinjski and Trenčín in the second and third qualifying rounds respectively. • Legia lost to Steaua Bucureşti in their only previous UEFA Champions League play-off, in 2013/14. Team and coach links • Legia forward Michał Kucharczyk's next European appearance will be his 50th in UEFA competition. • David McMillan has scored seven UEFA goals – more than all of his Dundalk team-mates combined. Like most of the Dundalk players, he has a day job, working as an architect as well as playing football. • McMillan went into the play-offs as the joint-top scorer in UEFA Champions League qualifying this season with five goals, one ahead of Legia's Nemanja Nikolić. Coach profiles • Briefly a player with Dublin-based Home Farm, Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny is one of the most successful Irish managers of his age, having won one national title with Bohemians and two more in successive seasons with his current club. He also coached in Scotland with Dunfermline Athletic. • Born in what is now Kosovo, former Albanian international Besnik Hasi made his name as a player in Belgium with Genk and Anderlecht, winning four titles – and another as Anderlecht coach in 2013/14. He took charge of Legia after they clinched the 2015/16 Polish championship under Russian Stanislav Cherchesov. 3 Dundalk FC - Legia Warszawa Wednesday 17 August 2016 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Aviva Stadium, Dublin Squad list Dundalk FC Current season All-time UCLQ UCL League UCL UEFA No. Player Nat. Seagull Scene SSE Airtricity League First Division Season 2021 Vol. 37 No. 3 WELCOME TO THE CARLISLE BRAY WANDERERS FC I would like to welcome Colin Healy and his Cork City team and club officials to the Carlisle Grounds for this ROLL OF HONOUR evening’s encounter. FAI Cup Winners (2) Both teams lie in the bottom half of the table going into this game. Wanderers have drawn four and lost once 1990, 1999 while Cork have lost their last four league games. First Division Champions (3) Wanderers have had a bit of an injury crisis so far, 1985/86, 1995/96, 1999/00 particularly amongst the forwards, where Gary Shaw First Division runners-up (2) and Darragh Lynch have both been missed. Lynch has yet to feature this season. 1990/91, 1997/98 On the plus side it was great to see Charlie Gallagher Shield Winners (1) make his first team debut in Cobh last week. Charlie is 1995/96 the latest player to come through the Academy ranks at Bray to play for the first team. Charlie was top scorer for National League B Division Champions (2) the under 17s last season. 1991/92, 1998/99 Our Academy teams returned to training this week in Enda McGuill Cup (1) preparation for the season. Only teams up to under 18 2005 can train now so the under 19s must wait a bit longer to resume training. FAI Intermediate Cup Winners (2) 1955/56, 1957/58 The viewing figures for the live streaming service of Bray Wanderers two home games so far this season FAI Junior Cup Winners (2) have been quite good.

  • 1895-1970 – Non League 1970-1978 – Loi B Years
History Friday, 01 January 2010 00:00 1895-1970 – Non league In 1895, the Catholic University Medical School Cecilia Street Football Club was founded, entering a team in the inaugural Leinster Junior League. The team's first match was against Bohemians B in October of 1895 and ended in a 2-0 defeat. November 1895 also saw the first match against Trinity with a result of 2-0 to Cathlolic University. 1898 Catholic University qualified for the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time - and we reached the semi-final. In 1908, the Catholic University merged with University College Dublin, and the team changed name with the merger. Things weren't quite settled yet, though, as we went through a series of grounds - in Sandymount, Cowper Road, Croydon Park, Fairview and Terenure before moving to Belfield Park in 1935 and now the UCD Bowl in 2008. In the meantime, though, success had been regular. In 1914, we won the inaugural Collingwood Cup - the Irish collegiate championships. The next year, UCD won the IFA Intermediate Cup, beating Portadown 2-1 in a replay in Dalymount Park. The first match had seen UCD draw in Windsor Park on St Patrick's Day. The competition was the 'IFA' Cup because in those days before independence, the IFA governed football over the whole island, and the competition involved teams from the whole island. The Intermediate Cup was one step below the Senior Cup in importance, so it was certainly of some significance. UCD were also involved in the first ever FAI Senior Cup in 1921, when they took on a non-league side at the time, Shamrock Rovers, in Windy Arbour, losing 6-2.

  • Dundalk Hit the Right Notes to Beat Finn Harps
English 3rd-6th Class Developing skills of Comprehension Dundalk hit the right notes to beat Finn Harps Dundalk took a deserved three points following a comprehensive two goal victory over Finn Harps at a damp Oriel Park on Monday night. Dundalk bossed the first half and took an early lead through former Derry City attacker Patrick Mc Eleney who ghosted along the edge of the penalty area before firing a shot low into the bottom right hand corner of Ciaran Gallagher’s net on six minutes. That appeared to set the tone for a goal laden evening however this failed to materialise in the opening forty five minutes as the home side had the monopoly on possession but failed to increase their lead due to a well organised Finn Harps defence. Gallagher, who had missed the side’s first league meeting due to work commitments, was a busy man in the first half as he saved well from both John Mountney and Daryl Horgan in quick succession before referee Neil Doyle was forced to intervene and ask the net minder to speed up his set pieces. Just on the stroke of half time Dundalk almost increased their lead but Paddy Barrett’s close range header from an inswinging free kick thumped the crossbar and Harps escaped further punishment. The second half began in a subdued manner as Ruairí Keating departed the field on a stretcher in the 52nd minute and his replacement David Scully was one of five Harps players booked in the second half. Manager Ollie Horgan was sent to the stand for protesting following the booking of Gallagher for timewasting in the 68th minute and his name sake Daryl put the game to bed less than ten minutes later as he rifled the ball home from ten yards following Dundalk pressure down the right.
