Objectives of the course and intended learning outcomes (competences): The aim will be to acquire the ability of critical judgment of narrow European and non-European historiography with an understanding of the dynamism of historical development and comparisons between specific phenomena in Europe and on other continents, as well as stressing the importance of cultural contacts among different cultural environments. 4. Content (Curriculum outline): An introduction to the specific cultural-historic and social developments of non-European societies which led to the formation of new political and cultural entities and their development until the end of the 20th century. The stress will be on exposing the causes that were crucial in shaping the special characteristics of non-European civilisations as well as their interactions with Western civilisation in the process of modernisation and globalisation. 5. Teaching methods: Exposing system deficiencies of historiography in the realms of different civilisations with comparisons between the treatments of similar topics in different environments and presenting the main ideological constructs that have developed on the basis of different cultural traditions.
