SERENE . SUBLIME Advantage Odisha … (1/2) Hub for Mineral-Based Industries Odisha has emerged as a key state with regards to the mineral- and metal-based industry. The state leads in iron, steel, ferroalloy and aluminium production. It also has a strong base for coal-based power generation. Policy and Fiscal Incentives The state offers a wide range of fiscal and policy incentives for businesses under the Industrial Policy Resolution, 2007. Additionally, the state has sector-specific policies for IT, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Rich Labour Pool The state has a large base of skilled labour, making it an ideal destination for mineral-based industry. Further, the state has a large pool of semi-skilled and unskilled labour. In addition, the state has an airport and prominent port infrastructure. High Economic Growth The state’s average GSDP growth rate was about 15.4 per cent between 2004-05 and 2011-12. The tertiary sector recorded the highest growth rate of all the three sectors in the same period. Stable Political Environment The state has a stable political environment. SERENE . SUBLIME Economic Snapshot – Agricultural Production → In 2011-12, the total production of food grains in the Annual Production – 2010-11 state was around 6.43 million tonnes. Crop (‘000 tonnes) → Rice is the primary crop in the state. The total Rice 5,815^ production of rice in the state was around 5.81 Sugarcane 884^ million tonnes in 2011-12. SUBLIME Economic Snapshot – FDI Inflows & Investments → According to the Department of Industrial Policy & Break up of Outstanding Investments by Sector (2011-12) Promotion (DIPP), the cumulative FDI inflows from April 2000 to December 2012 amounted to US$ 341 1.2% million.
