Brief Introduction of Institute The Government College of Commerce, Sabzazar previously Govt. Hashmi Memorial College of Commerce, Lahore was founded in 1966 nationalized in 1972. It was renamed as Government College of Commerce, Sabzazar in 2012. It aimed at promoting and spreading the commerce education in the country and finally shifted to the present premises in January 2012 at a purpose built building spreading in 30 kanals. This college is the oldest commerce institution of Punjab which has produced the personalities of national and international calibre serving with utmost zeal and devotion. It has over been fortunate enough to have been endowed with a very hardworking and dedicated teaching staff who always put their energies into the students education and training and produced encourage results. With the posting of the present Principal, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Awan, the present splendid building was completed and the classes were shifted which are now humming with educational activities. In the new building comprises of class rooms, teachers room, computer labs, library etc. At the time of shifting there was no electricity, no drinking water arrangement etc. With the strenuous efforts, all these facilities are now available in the college. On the academic side, the college transformed into a degree college with the introduction of B.Com-IT two years programme, Inter Computer Science (ICS) and Inter Arts. The students strength have been raised from 200 to 450 in the first academic session in this building. We anticipate still more enrolment in the Inter, B.Com classes in the next session. While preparing PC-1, the new disciplines of F. Sc., Pre- Engineering & Pre-Medical, BBA, BIT, MIT BCS, M.Com, & MCS were recommended and approved and a demand for more faculty under SNE was made. However, pending provision of teaching staff under the SNE, these disciplines could not be introduced. We demand immediate approval of SNE, introduction of more disciplines of Arts and & Science in degree and Master level, short courses ion Computer literacy and languages including the English language. The college to the need of population over of five lakh stretched from Gulshan-e-Ravi, Sherakot, Bund Road, Sabzazar, Chow Yatimkhana and Samanabad areas on Multan Road, Awan Towhn, Marghazar,Hassan Town, Babu Sabu upto Multan Chungi and Thokar Niaz Beg etc. At the graduate level we have enrolled girl students and these can also be enrolled in the Master classes if approved by the HED. Message of the Principal “Al-Ilmun Noorin” Knowledge is light. This is Hadith of the holy Prophet (PBUH) with which the darkness of ignorance can be removed and thus enlightenment and progress as ignorance is mother of all ills. Truly following this concept we believe that the job oriented higher education of quality is the answer to unemployment and backwardness in the country. As such, the Government College of Commerce Sabzazar, previously Hashmi Memorial College of Commerce is imparting quality education not only in the discipline of Commerce at Inter and graduate level but F.A. General Science and ICS at inter level. We are making still more endeavour to introduce new disciplines at graduate and postgraduate level in the field of Commerce and Computer Science in the coming sessions. May Allah grant us courage and determination to achieve this objective enabling us to contribute towards the nation building endeavour. Programme offered. History, Islamiyat, Physical Education NOTE: The Government College of Commerce, Sabzazar, Lahore introduced last year F.A. with subject combination of Economics, Islamiyat Elective, Health and Physical Education. The I.Com programme with uniform subject combination is also part of our studies at intermediate level.
