Background The month of Ramadan falls on ninth month of Islamic lunar calendar. During this blessed month Muslims around the world, abstain from food and drink. In Pakistan, the Muslims celebrate this month with special fervour and zeal and special arrangements are made at the time of Iftar and Sahar. In city of Lahore, the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) makes special arrangement for continuous provision of quality and cheap grocery items including vegetables, fruits, flour etc., In this context, the CDGL organize Ramadan Bazaars, which are spread all over Lahore at important designated places. During the forthcoming month of Ramadan, the CDGL has planned to establish 30 Ramadan Bazaars. Generally, low and middle-income groups visit these bazaars because of the availability of cheap products. Additionally, Government of the Punjab also announced subsidies on different food items during Ramadan and prices of commodities are strictly controlled in Ramadan Bazaars. Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has planned to maintain overall cleanliness of Ramadan Bazaars and going to make special arrangements for efficient collection of solid waste. In this regards, in Ramadan Bazaar, 180 sanitary workers will be deployed in two shifts along with waste collection and special arrangements are made for mechanical sweeping & washing of surrounding areas along with waste collection on regular basis. 2. Objective To maintain overall cleanliness in Ramadan Bazaars by efficiently collecting and transporting solid waste generated in Ramadan Bazaars. 3. Duration of the Plan The plan will be exeucuted during the whole month of Ramadan (5 June- 4 July 2016) 4. Town wise list of Ramadan Bazaars and Iftar Dastar Khawan During the forthcoming month of Ramadan, CDGL has planned to establish 30 Ramazan Bazaars in different localities of Lahore. The sites of these Ramadan Bazaars have been chosen because of easy access of the citizens and availability of place for holding these bazaars. The list of Daily Ramadan Bazaars is given in table- 1. P 1 Acknowledgements It is a genuine pleasure to express the deepest appreciation to the efforts of Planning and Development (P&D) Department, Punjab, The Urban Unit, Ernst & Young (EY) and especially we would take this opportunity to acknowledge the guidance and support provided by the team of World Bank particularly by Mr. Michael Schaeffer and Ms. Shahnaz Arshad for the compilation and augmentation of this document. Without the special support of the above mentioned and so many more, this document would not have been possible. We are highly grateful for the assistance and acknowledge in the highest of honor for us. 2 Foreword Infrastructure management is the cornerstone of social equity, public health & safety and service delivery for good governance. Infrastructure is essential to achieve the increased levels of economic growth as aspired under Punjab Growth Strategy through job creation and establishment of well serviced areas in urban centers conducive for economic investment and its enabling environment. In recent years, Government of Punjab has increasingly focused on the need to balance the delivery of infrastructure in the short term, with the need to strive for sustainability. Infrastructure assets and community facilities are complex by nature and require robust management practices. Sound knowledge of the location, characteristics, estimated lives, capacity and utilization, cost characteristics, risk exposure and safety requirements of assets is required to best manage them and make sustainable improvements in service delivery. To support local government in achieving programs that promote sustainable quality of life to all citizens and as part of a broader and ongoing support framework for urban development and sustainable cities, an Integrated Development and Asset Management Plan (IDAMP) Framework was developed in consideration of the provisions of ISO-55000 and leading asset management practices in the world.
