Take a bow! PICK ME UP I’M A The arts really matter to us in Ireland; they are a big part of people’s lives, the FREE country’s single most popular pursuit. Our artists interpret our past, define who PROGRAMME we are today, and imagine our future. We can all take pride in the enormous reputation our artists have earned around the world. The arts play a vital role in our economy, and smart investment of taxpayers’ money in the arts is repaid many times over. The dividends come in the form of a high value, creative economy driven by a flexible, educated, innovative work force, and in a cultural tourism industry worth 2.4 billion directly a year. The Arts Council is the Irish Government agency for funding and developing the arts. Arts Council funding from the taxpayer, through the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport, for 2010 is 69.15 million, that’s less than 1 a week for every household. So, at the end of your next great festival experience, don’t forget the role you played and take a bow yourself! • The Henry Girls Irish Americana Folk Aus Donegal/Irland

Attendees will be exposed to some of the finest Irish music talent from around the world with more than 100 acts on 16 stages over the four-day festival. “Every year we bring in a diverse lineup of artists that cover Traditional, Celtic rock, folk, singer/songwriter, and contemporary styles,” said Jane Anderson, executive director of Milwaukee Irish Fest. “People may not realize that we even bring in Riverdance-like productions such as 14-member performance band, Kintra. There’s truly something for everybody.” And for this year’s annual festival, happening August 18 to 21 on Milwaukee’s lakefront, Irish Fest didn’t just book the best Irish music acts – they hand-picked them. “When we promise to bring you a slice of Ireland, we start by traveling there ourselves,” said Ed Ward, entertainment coordinator for Milwaukee Irish Fest. “Our goal is to find and select the most unique artists and bring them to our festival goers.” Irish Fest’s quest for “new” and “unique,” took their group on a journey to Ireland late last fall. They found many of this year’s cutting edge artists during their visit to multiple showcases and performances put on by top musicians.
