TRADING AREA

The immediate trading area for Leask extends to a 20 km radius of the community. The population base in this area is 3205. During the spring and summer, the village benefits from the regional cottage and resort industry.

FIRST NATION NEIGHBOURS

Mistawasis First Nation

Mistawasis is located immediately west of the Rural Municipality of Leask and covers an area of 125 square kilometers. In the past, Mistawasis First Nation has utilized its land base for agriculture, fishing, hunting, fur trapping, silviculture, logging, herbs and craft materials. This First Nation has approximately 800 members living on-reserve. Off-reserve Band members live primarily in Saskatoon, Leask, and Prince Albert.

The First Nation recently established a development corporation Misty Ventures Inc. and is evaluating a number of ventures on select land within the Leask trading area:  Feasibility and environmental analysis has been completed for a gas station and store development to be located on Highway 40 immediately north of Leask.  Feasibility and environmental analysis is currently being undertaken for a residential development on reserve land.  Preliminary discussions have begun with respect to development of a recreational resort to be comprised of a golf course, cabins, cultural village and campground.

Muskeg Lake Nation

Muskeg Lake Cree Nation is a progressive band that owns and manages a total of 35,123 acres in urban and rural lands. The First Nation is located southwest of Leask. First established in 1881, the core reserve is still home to approximately 367 community members and 1,481 additional members live across Saskatchewan and .

With the creation of an urban reserve in Saskatoon, MLCN has been successful in creating a number of enterprises and partnerships that have provided the band with additional resources to support community programs and services. With 15 acres of undeveloped urban reserve land, the band continues to look for opportunities to create partnerships in the development of the property.

EDUCATION Leask Community School offers kindergarten to grade 12 classes and is part of the Prairie Spirit School Division. An amazing Health Hut serves healthy and delicious school snacks and meals to the entire school. Many extra-curricular activities are offered for our youth, during and after school.

Post Secondary education is accessible via a Storefront School which is linked to Northwest Regional College, offering a GED program. Additional opportunities are located in nearby Warman, Prince Albert, Battleford, and Saskatoon.

Leask is home to the wheelchair accessible Waipiti Library, located in the newly constructed Butler Building.

HEALTH CARE

The Leask Community Health Centre provides chiropractic services, massage therapy, nurse practitioner, community resource representative, and doctor services every Tuesday and Thursday accompanied by full pharmacy services on those days.

Home Care and Laboratory services are provided via the Parkland Health Region.

The Wheatland Lodge is a special care home for level 3 and 4 residents with a full slate of events for the residents, staff and community. The 30-bed Lodge has 29 LTC beds and one respite.

COMMUNITY SERVICES Emergency Services

The Leask Fire Department worked in conjunction with the Village and Rural Municipality of Leask No. 464 to construct a new fire hall. It boasts two fire trucks, a rescue van, and a water tanker. The new building has a meeting room for use of ongoing training not only for local volunteer fire fighters, but for surrounding fire departments as well.

Through a joint effort of the Village, Rural Municipality and the History Book Committee, an AED (automated external defibrillator) is also available in the community

RECREATION AND TOURISM The Leask golf course is a nine hole, easy walking, sand green, well maintained and beautiful relaxing place. It boasts a 900-sq ft clubhouse with kitchen facilities, which can also be rented for special occasions.

Botchy's Campground & R.V. Park offers a privately owned Lake with hiking trails, trout fishing, canoe, paddleboat and row boat rentals.

Damour Lake located 17 kms west of Leask is home to walleye, northern pike and perch. There is also a Country-Residential development at this lake.

Emerald Lake Regional Campground is 30 kms north west of Leask. The lake offers camping, beaches, fishing, boat launch, 9 hole golf course, and nature trails.

Iroquois Lake is located 35 kms north west of Leask. The lake offers beaches, boat launch, fishing, playground, restrooms and filleting shack.

Lac la Peche is approximately 30 km south west of Leask. Offers cabin and boat rentals, camping, and hiking.

Martin's Lake Regional Park is 25 kms west of Leask. Offers camping, beaches, fishing, playground, concession and restaurant, and a 9 hole golf course.

Memorial Lake Regional Park is 40 kms north of Leask by the village of Shell Lake. Lake offers camping, beaches, fishing, mini-golf, Laundromat, and an 18 hole golf course.

Big Shell Lake is located approximately 40 km to the north west and has extensive facilities for families and visitors.

HERITAGE AND TOURISM

Local Honeywood Heritage Nurseries is renowned for its prize winning lilies, bulbs and heritage gardens. Founded by Dr. A J Porter in 1934. It is a horticultural and historical nursery.

The Riverlands Heritage Region Tour is accessed from the west side of the North Saskatchewan River between Petrofka Bridge and Wingard Ferry. The nearby towns of , Marcelin, and Leask are considered staging areas for the full day tour and maps are available at no charge at these locations. The self-guided tour includes cultural and historical sites as well as areas of natural history. The area is rich in flora and fauna with over 280 species of birds that may be sighted at various times of the year

Petrofka Orchardcurrently has over 1,200 apple trees on 15 acres of farmland and is located 34 minutes south of Leask. Our goal is to produce fresh, healthy and sustainably grown fruit and vegetables for our local customers. Petrofka Orchard is a Saskatchewan apple orchard supporting the prairie hardy apple research of the University of Saskatchewan Horticulture Program

12-40 and Beyond - “An Adventure in Rural Life” is a self-guided tour through Leask, Marcelin, Blaine Lake and countrysides. This tour includes a variety of art, orchards, museum, blacksmithing, jewelry, stone carving, wool works, denim creations, and much more.
