Srinaaar CHAPTER-1 a) Introduction b) Historical Background Introduction Kashmir is well known for its amazing natural beauty. Its natural beauty is the creation of its geography, which played a vital role in determining the course of its history. The archeological remains and monuments of Kashmir ha\e extensively added to its natural beauty as well as its historical perspective. Kashmir has strikingly preserved its cultural continuity and identity throughout the ages, which may further be testified by its well preser\'ed monuments. Annexation of Kashmir by the Mughals under Akbar in 1586 A.D. is the starting point of the present project. The Mughal Emperors ruled over Kashmir for about one hundred and sixt\' six years through their governors and subedars. All the Emperors from Akbar to Aurangzeb and down to later Mughals tried to keep their hold over Kashmir firml}-. After the decline of Mughal empire. Afghans (1752-1819 A.D.). Sikhs (1819-46 A.D.) and finally the Dogra Rajputs (1846-1947 A.D.) held their swa\- over Kashmir. During the period under study, a large number of monuments, especially during the Mughal period have been constructed. Palaces, forts, canals, sarais. bridges, wells, mosques, tombs, shrines and royal gardens etc were constructed during this period. The project aims at a detailed and comparative stud}' of these monuments right from the Mughal Annexation of Kashmir by Akbar in 1586 A.D. down to the modern period c 1900 A.D.

The Rural, Urban constitution of the populations stands in the ratio of 74:26 as against 73:27 for the state. 1 District at a Glance The district consists of 386 inhabited and 09 un-inhabited revenue villages. Besides, there is one Municipal Council and 09 Municipal Committees in the district. The district consists of 12 tehsils, viz, Anantnag, Anantnag-East, Bijbehara, Dooru, Kokernag, Larnoo, Pahalgam, Qazigund, Sallar, Shahabad Bala, Shangus and Srigufwara with four sub-divisions viz Bijbehara, Kokernag, Dooru and Pahalgam. The district is also divided into 16 CD blocks, viz, Achabal, Anantnag, Bijbehara, Breng, Chhittergul, Dachnipora, Hiller Shahabad, Khoveripora, Larnoo, Pahalgam, Qazigund, Sagam, Shahabad, Shangus, Verinag and Vessu for ensuring speedy and all-out development of rural areas.

In the last four decades the water quality of Dal Lake has undergone enormous changes and which in turn had make it useless for domestic use and aesthetic view. Extension of land use in lake could increase the use of fertilizers which could cause the problem of eutrophication. The paper is an attempt to present condition of water quality in lake. Water quality can be assessed by different parameters like BOD, pH, nitrate, phosphorus turbidity etc.From the test results and data we observed that the maximum surface of lake water is covered by weeds which is the result of higher concentration of nitrate and phosphorous which directly results into siltation of lake water. Due to the higher values of BOD, COD it results the less amount of dissolved oxygen present in the lake water which causes the direct threat to Lake Ecosystem. About Tulip garden of Srinagar Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was opened in 2008 by then chief minister of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state Ghulam Nabi Azad. The idea of the garden, spread over 30 hectares in the foothills of snow-clad Zabarwan range. Tulip Garden Festival in Srinagar where nearly 15 lakh flowers of more than 64 varieties.Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added. Garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces. Tulip festival: Annual celebration that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. It is organized during the onset of spring season in Kashmir valley. About Zabarwan Range Sub-mountain range between Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan Range. Located in the central part of the Kashmir Valley. The Highest Peak of this range is Mahadev Peak at 13,013 feet (3,966 m). The Shankaracharya Temple is built on the edge of the central part of the Zabarwan Range. Dachigam National Park: Main feature of the range.Park holds the last viable population of Kashmir stag (Hangul), Park also has the largest population of black bear in Asia.
