The sixth annual Orange and White Kickoff was held at the Texas Disposal System’s Exotic Game Ranch with more than 360 University of Texas revelers attending. Smokey the Cannon and the Texas Cowboys greeted partygoers at the door. Devoted Longhorn fans in burnt-orange attire mingled during a festive cocktail reception. Entertainment featured narrated bus tours of the ranch and live music by Brent Allen. Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q served a Texas-sized tailgating buffet. The silent auction showcased autographed Longhorn items such as a Kevin Durant-signed basketball, football signed by legendary former UT football coach Darrell Royal and a Roger Clemens-signed baseball jersey. Raffle prizes were a Longhorn diamond pendant from sponsor C. Kirk Root Designs and a UT football signed by previous players. Current president of the NFL Alumni Austin Chapter and former UT football player John Haines addressed the enthusiastic crowd, and past scholarship recipient Britt Brandon gave a testimonial on stage. The evening concluded with spirited cheers and school songs led by the UT cheerleaders, pom squad and Hook ‘em the mascot. Benefiting the Texas Exes Austin Chapter’s Scholarship Endowment Fund, proceeds generated approximately $10,000. “We successfully made our 2011 goal to raise money for 10 scholarships,” said Ashley Bible, Texas Exes Austin Chapter president. “These monies create opportunities for bright and talented high school students from the Austin area who want to attend UT in the future.” Texas Exes members receive privileges of UT’s libraries, continuing education, career development and networking. They enjoy discounts on pre-sale tickets to athletics, access to the Alumni Center and UT Club, Chapter and Young Alumni events, award-winning Alcalde alumni magazine and vendor discounts on travel, insurance, financial services, performing arts and publications.
