E-Newsletter of Shivaji College, July-December 2019 INSIDE THIS ISSUE Relections from the SHIVAJI Principal’s Desk 1 Department Spotlight 2 E X C L U S I V E Community Outreach 12 Beyond Classroom 16 Faculty Achievements 21 July-December 2019 Reections om the Principal's Desk “Have faith that the future will be bright But don't lose the will to work for it today. Appreciate praise as it will motivate you But don't reject criticism as it will guide you. Listen to what people have to say But don't block your ears to your own inner voice.” As the head of the institution, these principles have guided me towards realising my vision for this college. I have been fortunate enough to see the wonderful results of these beliefs as Shivaji College achieves great heights. Accredited with grade “A” by NAAC, the college was ranked 10th among the Science colleges and 11th in Commerce and Humanities by India Today in 2017. The college has been ranked 59 by NIRF 2018. I am also proud to announce that recently the Task Force for the Star College Scheme has recommended financial support for four Science Departments in Shivaji College. Education, in its true spirit, cuts across the boundaries of caste, creed, race and religion. As progressive, responsible educationists, we are commied to protecting human rights. Our sensitivity and responsibility in upholding the rights of every human being is the key to global peace. Our community outreach goals reflect this spirit of equality. The college has a dynamic Women Development Cell (WDC) that aims at generating awareness about gender equality and women empowerment. Every year Shivaji College presents the Jijabai Achiever's Award (instituted in 2009) to felicitate the individuals who have worked at grass-root level in changing the lives of women. The National Service Scheme (NSS); National Cadet Corps (NCC) wings for boys and girls; the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) for the students with disabilities, and the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) for the aspiring entrepreneurs focus on honing every aspect of a well-rounded personality and sensitisation of young students. In addition, the stimulating Cultural Commiee encourages the joy of dance, theatre, fashion, music and art in the college. This e-newsleer brings together the accolades and memories of the events organised during the summer semester of 2019. I invite you to share this joy with me. It gives me great pleasure to outline the activities carried out during this semester July-December 2019, and the achievements of the Shivaji fraternity.
