LAUDA SECURES 3 MORE A320 AIRCRAFT FOR SUMMER 2020 (36 IN TOTAL) EXPANDS S20 BASE FROM 16 TO 19 AIRCRAFT OPENS 32 NEW ROUTES AS FY2020 TRAFFIC JUMPS FROM 9M TO 10M P.A.

Lauda, ’s No.1 low fares airline, announced today (23rd Oct) in Vienna, that it has secured 3 more A320 aircraft following the recent Thomas Cook and Adria Airline failures, and will recruit up to 100 new A320 pilots, which allows it to increase its Summer 2020 Vienna base from 16 to 19 aircraft, opening 32 new routes to/from Vienna, together with increased daily frequencies on many other existing routes. This further expansion in Vienna would not have been possible without the recent failure of Thomas Cook and Adria, which has increased the availability of second hand A320 aircraft, and more importantly, A320 pilots, hundreds of whom have applied to join Lauda in recent days. This further growth is facilitated by additional base aircraft slots, which will be freed up by the reduction in base aircraft recently announced by (from 4 to 2) and (from 7 to 4). In Summer 2020, Lauda will now offer 81 routes to/from Vienna, almost 3 times the 31 routes offered in Summer 2019, and Lauda will create over 100 new jobs for A320 pilots, and more than 200 new cabin crew jobs in Vienna and Palma airports in S2020. With these new aircraft and new routes, Lauda will step up its growth from 6.5m customers in the current year to over 10m guests in year 3 of its operation, which we believe will allow Lauda to break even for the first time. To celebrate its largest ever summer schedule, Lauda has launched a seat sale with fares on its Vienna routes available from just €9.99 for travel in Jan and Feb, which must be booked by 12am (24 Oct), available on the Laudamotion.com website and Lauda App.

In Vienna today, Lauda’s CFO Andreas Fritthum said: “We are very pleased to secure these additional aircraft and pilots, following the regrettable bankruptcy of Thomas Cook and Adria Airlines in recent weeks. In Summer 2020, Lauda will operate a fleet of 19 aircraft at Vienna Airport, 15x A320’s and 4x B737-800’s leased from our sister airline, . These new aircraft will allow us to open 32 new routes (see attached) as well as improve our business schedules with double daily frequency to Dublin, Madrid, Milan and Tel Aviv, Milan, while introducing new daily business services to Dortmund and Warsaw. Having originally planned 17 new routes from Vienna in S2020, these 3 new aircraft will allow Lauda to increase our growth to 32 new routes, while growing our 2020/21 traffic from 9m to 10m passengers in just our 3rd year of operations. This rapid growth to over 10m passengers in just our 3rd year of operations means that Laudamotion is rapidly catching up to (who carry 14m passengers p.a.), and we expect to overtake Austrian Airlines, and become Austria’s No.1 airline within the next 5 years. These are exciting times for Lauda, our people, and our passengers, and together we are working hard to deliver on the vision for competition choice and low fares, which was pioneered by our founder and Austrian legend, Lauda”.
