(040) 853 88 888 ∙ www.fkpscorpio.com PRESSEMITTEILUNG 24.04.2017 Maxïmo Park sind ab September mit neuem Album auf Tour Maxïmo Park haben eben mit „Risk To Exist“ ihr sechstes Studioalbum veröffentlicht. Darauf hat sich die Band aus Newcastle deutlich weiterentwickelt, und das gleich in mehrere Richtungen: War das Quintett (bei dem übrigens jetzt der Live-Bassist Paul Rafferty offiziell Archis Tiku ersetzt) bislang doch eher die Speerspitze des britischen Indie-Rock, haben sich Frontmann Paul Smith und seine Jungs zum einen musikalisch weiterentwickelt. Konnte man bislang doch eher The Clash und ähnliche Punkrock-Veteranen als Referenzen heraushören, drängen nun verstärkt Paul Weller und die Stimme von Feargal Sharkey ins Zentrum. Einiges ist aber geblieben: Die Hook-geladenen Melodien, das Gespür für Dringlichkeit, soulige Grooves und Pop-Sensibilität sind weiterhin das Markenzeichen der Briten. „Risk To Exist“ geht aber auch produktionstechnisch einen mutigen neuen Weg. Neugierig aus dem gewohnten Umfeld im englischen Nordosten auszubrechen, zog es Maxïmo Park im Herbst 2016 in Wilcos Studio nach Chicago. Komplett live aufgenommen, produzierte die Band das Album gemeinsam mit Tom Schick (Wilco, Beck, White Denim). Mit von der Partie war auch Mimi Parker von der gefeierten US-Band Low, deren Stimme bei fünf Songs auf dem Album zu hören ist. Die dritte Neuigkeit betrifft die Lyrics: Inhaltlich ist die neue Platte deutlich politischer geworden als man das von Maxïmo Park eh schon gewohnt war. „Ich hatte befürchtet, einige Songs könnten ihre Aktualität verloren haben, bis sie erscheinen“, sagt Smith, „aber das ist unglücklicherweise nicht der Fall.“ Im Angesicht der aktuellen Weltpolitik und der bröckelnden politischen Systeme ist das neue Werk ein wichtiges Zeichen in der heutigen Zeit. Diese Pop- Songs sprechen die großen Themen an, ohne den Hörer niederzureden - ein Album auf dem das Politische auch das Persönliche ist. Im Herbst kommen Maxïmo Park zu uns auf Tour und präsentieren ihre neuen Stücke live.     “I was worried that some of the songs would be irrelevant by the time the record came out,” says Maxïmo Park frontman Paul Smith. “Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case.” ! As you’ve probably noticed, we have entered one of those unfortunate periods in history when political upheavals are so vast and grim that they become unavoidable. When cruelty and intolerance are on the rise, works of art that meet them head on with an alternative vision are more than valuable — they’re necessary. Risk to Exist, Maxïmo Park’s sixth album, is a collection of irresistible pop songs about anger, hope, resistance and, above all, empathy — a knockout fusion of music and message from a band on extraordinary form. ! Maxïmo Park began writing Risk to Exist back in 2015. Main melodicist Duncan Lloyd, along with Lukas Wooller, provided the band with a host of diverse new arrangements, sweeping from machine gun guitar riffs on 'Risk To Exist', to the House-inspired euphoria of 'Alchemy'. Lloyd compares his musical input on these songs to, “walking between the dance, indie and rock clubs of my youth; the main places to escape and be lifted somewhere else”. ! The band’s new direction needed a fresh lyrical approach, too. During a few days in Berlin, one of his favourite cities, Smith worked on a lyric for what became I’ll Be Around, an infectiously charming song about standing together in difficult times. It pointed the way forward. The band had written songs with political implications before — Girls Who Play Guitars from 2007, or the title track of 2012’s The National Health — but now they felt the urge to be more explicit.
