Serving girls in economically distressed neighborhoods has been part of the Girl Scout landscape for over 50 years. Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast’s (GSWISE) program delivery strategies ensure the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) is available to all girls, providing the tools and financial support needed to help them build courage, confidence, and character. Program

The Girl Scout Promise Program provides girls in low-income and/ or underserved neighborhoods in southeastern Wisconsin the opportunity to reach their full leadership potential. Specially-trained Girl Scout staff and volunteers guide and inspire girls to explore new things, gain practical skills, and prepare for a lifetime of leadership in a safe girl-first environment. These early, pivotal experiences prepare them to navigate the challenges and critical decisions that arise in later years.

The Girl Scout Promise Program encompasses many different pathways of participation in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) curriculum that occur year-round and provides financial assistance, bilingual materials, and customized curriculum. Girls can participate in out-of-school time staff- led Girl Scout troops, middle school series programs, summer workshops, camp experiences, and Girls of Summer Softball. Girls participating in the Girl Scout Promise Program build their courage, confidence, and character and make the world a better place.

G.I.R.L. Discovery Days Grades K5-12 This experience provides girls with a one-day opportunity to explore Girl Scouts through age- appropriate activities that promote, educate, and involve participants in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). GSWISE Community Outreach staff travel to selected sites and conduct a fun introductory and educationally-infused engagement activity focused on STEM, life- skills, and entrepreneurship. Recommended participation is a minimum of 2-4 events (1-2 hours each). Out-of-School Time Troops/High School Clubs Grades K5-12 Out-of-School Time is a GSWISE staff-led troop program for girls in partnership with MPS and other non-profit youth development agencies. Girl Scouts are engaged in bi-weekly activities that align with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) curriculum (STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship, life-skills). Sessions can range from 1-3 hours and can be tailored to group size, age range and special needs. Troops generally meet October-May, twice a month. Schools are selected annually to participate in field trip and Girl in the School Day camping days. Grades K5-12 Girl Scouting in the School Day serves girls through Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) series programming in the classroom to develop leadership, STEM, and financial literacy skills. GSWISE partners with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) and other non- profit youth development organizations to deliver a high-quality learning experience aligned with state curriculum standards, which benefits the girls’ schools as well. All curriculum is grade-level targeted and 2 hours in length, but can be customized for a specific grade level. It is recommended that schools participate a minimum of 2 times per year. Girl Scouts stay engaged during the summer discovering and exploring the great outdoors while building healthy relationships, and skills related to teamwork, healthy living and leadership. Summer G.I.R.L. Discovery Days Girls entering grades K5-6 G.I.R.L. Discovery Days are infused with exciting hands- on educational and team building activities designed to bring out her inner go-getter, innovator, risk-taker, and leader. GSWISE workshops focused around STEM, outdoors, enterpreneurship, and life-skills are provided at partner-based sites. Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programs are customizable for morning or afternoon sessions and typically last 2-3 hours. It is recommended that girls participate in a minimum of 2 G.I.R.L. Discovery Days.

Girl Scout Day at Camp Girls entering grades K5-8 Girl members from our partner-based youth development program sites can participate in a day of outdoor exploration at various Girl Scout camp locations. Outdoor experiences are designed to educate girls on nature, their responsibility to care for the environment, and engage them in adventure-based activities that allow them to discover the great outdoors in a safe girl-led environment.

Girls of Summer Softball Grades 3-5 Girls of Summer Softball is for girls who have completed grades 3-5 who want to participate in a non-competitive softball league. Girls have fun on the field while developing self-confidence, teamwork, leadership, and healthy living skills. The program meets twice per week for four weeks and the end-of- season event, Girls of Summer All-Star Day, is held at Helfaer Field at Miller Park. It is a chance for the girls to show their spirit and newfound skills. Girls of Summer Softball is a collaborative program with GSWISE, Brewers Community Foundation, Inc., and MPS’ Recreational Division. gswise.org • 800-565-4475 5 Girl Scouting in the School Day (GSISD) K5-8th Grade Curriculum (can be customized for High Schools)

The content of all Girl Scout national proficiency badges and curriculum journeys have been correlated by grade level to national Common Core Standards, 21st Century Skills standards, Financial Literacy education standards, and curriculum such as Health and PE, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies learning objectives for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. All GSISD curriculum is grade-level targeted and is two hours in length, but can be customized to meet the needs of the site.
