Günümüzde kontrabas çalan müzisyenlerin repertuvarlarında yer alan ve beğenilen bu eserin, diğer kontrabas eserleri arasında; melodik yapı, teknik ve ritmik zorluk bakımından seslendirilmeye değer olduğu söylenebilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı; meydana gelen zorlukların tespitini yapmak ve bulguların yorumuyla, bazı çözüm önerilerini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada konçertonun icrası esnasında karşılaşılabilecek melodik, teknik ve ritmik zorlukların tespit edilmesi için alanında uzman kişilere danışılarak anket formu oluşturulmuştur. Hazırlanan anket formu, Türkiye’deki Üniversitelerin Devlet Konservatuvarlarındaki akademisyenlere ve senfoni orkestralarında yer alan kontrabas sanatçılarına dağıtılmıştır. Denson IV De oeconomia ex natione: An Examination of the Role of Nationalism in Estonia’s Transition from Socialism to Capitalism Thomas Marvin Denson IV Abstract This thesis explores the role played by nationalism in Estonia’s transition to capitalism in the post-Soviet era and the way it continues to impact the Estonian economy. I hypothesize that nationalism was the key factor in this transition and that nationalism has placed a disproportionate economic burden on the resident ethnic Russians. First, I examine the history of Estonian nationalism. I examine the Estonian nationalist narrative from its beginning during the Livonian Crusade, the founding of Estonian nationalist thought in the late 1800s with a German model of nationalism, the conditions of the Soviet occupation, and the role of song festivals in Estonian nationalism. Second, I give a brief overview of the economic systems of Soviet and post-Soviet Estonia. Finally, I examine the impact of nationalism on the Estonian economy. To do this, I discuss the nature of nationalist economy, the presence of an ethno-national divide between the Estonians and Russians, and the impact of nationalist policies in citizenship, education, property rights, and geographical location. -

Swedish Emigration to America and Oregon after World War II L a r s N o r d s t r o m wedish emigration to the United States following World War II is not a widely studied subject, perhaps for the simple reason that it involves a relatively small number of individuals, and perhapsS also because, in comparison to the foreign immigration to Sweden during the last couple of decades, this group is small indeed. If we want to understand the two distinct communities that have emerged in the United States during the last thirty years or so— the Swedish-American community and the scattered groups of utlandssvenskar (expatriate Swedes)— it is helpful to take a broad look at the main currents in modem Swedish emigration. Relying on various statistical sources and earlier research, this article surveys the general character of Swedish emigration following the end of World War II and attempts to answer the following ques tions: Where have Swedes emigrated to during this period? How many individuals make up this migratory- flow? What is really meant by the temi “a Swedish emigrant”? How reliable are official statistics in describing the fluid patterns of individuals moving from one coun try- to another? What are the proportions between Swedes and Swed- ish-Americans in the state of Oregon today, and what is the size of Swedish immigration compared to other immigrant groups? The second part looks into the main causes behind modem .Swedish emigration to the United States. Perhaps a bit surprisingly, it finds that today it seems just as common to emigrate because one has LARS NORDSTROM is a freelance writer, translator, historian of the Swedes in Oregon, and grower of grapes. -

Border zones create high but vulnerable biocultural diversity. Through reviewing scattered historical data and documenting the current use of wild food plants among people currently living in historical Setomaa and Võromaa parishes, we aimed to identify cross-cultural differences and diachronic changes as well as the role borders have played on the local use of wild plants. The Seto have still preserved their distinctive features either by consciously opposing others or by maintaining more historical plant uses. People historically living in Setomaa and Võromaa parishes have already associated the eating of wild plants with famine food in the early 20th century, yet it was stressed more now by the Seto than by Estonians. Loss of Pechory as the center of attraction in the region when the border was closed in the early 1990s brought about a decline in the exchange of knowledge as well as commercial activities around wild food plants. National support for businesses in the area today and the popularity of a healthy lifestyle have introduced new wild food plant applications and are helping to preserve local plant-specific uses in the area. -

Poems and time What is a poem? Any poem, be it either lyrical like the sonnets or epical like the ballads, is always a narrative of some kind. It tells us about an occurred event, internal or external, dramatical or whatever. It claims that things in some situation were so-and-so, that they had certain preconditions and corresponding consequences. Whatever the story is about, its defining metaphysical theme is always time. I would like to emphasize that I consider the appearance of time as the metaphysical base of the narration, i.e. in a very general sense of the word, and thus overlook the narratological problems of depicting it. The plot of the story can contain pro- or analepsises (looking forward or backward), it can be elliptic or resuming (accelerative), scenic or descriptive in style (one-to-one or retarding). The presentation of the story can be singulative, repetative or iterative (single, repeating or concentrating presentation of an event). What I bear in mind is that a poem, whatever its narratological structure, always expresses time by presenting an event with its prologue and epilogue. But what kind of time? It may present the mythological circular or cyclic time as it probably was by our ancient folklore. It may present the feeling of unbounded eternity, which is characteristic of religions – we should mention Christian mysticists Ernst Enno and Uku Masing here as Estonian modern symbolists.
