Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.

D101 KRONOS QUARTET STRING MASTERCLASS (10:00AM-12:00PM) For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet – David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) – has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually reimagine the string quartet experience. In the process, Kronos has become one of the most celebrated and influential groups of our time, performing thousands of concerts worldwide, releasing more than 60 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity, collaborating with many of the world’s most intriguing and accomplished composers and performers, and commissioning more than 900 works and arrangements for string quartet. Kronos has received over 40 awards, including both the Polar Music and Avery Fisher Prize, two of the most prestigious awards given to musicians, a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and “Musicians of the Year” (2003) from Musical America. D115 DANCE MASTERCLASS Thomas McManus (USC) Enemy in the Figure is one of William Forsythe’s seminal works from the Ballett Frankfurt Days. Created in 1989, the work draws ideas from the theoretical architecture writings of Daniel Liebeskind . It is a race through enormously complex choreography created out of mind bending improvisations that were investigated for three weeks and then created this piece. Professor McManus will teach part of his solo and explain all of the images behind the movements that help the dancer to defy regular laws of physical logic.

D116 CULINARY DEMONSTRATION (10:30AM -12:00PM) Matthew Elden (Johnson and Wales University class of ‘13) Most of us have had store bought marshmallows throughout our childhood, but it’s likely that you haven’t had the chance to see them made fresh! This demonstration will include lessons on sugar cookery, the science of gelatin, and some tips you can use to enhance your candy making skills in the kitchen. The demonstration will be performed by Chef Matthew Elden, Johnson & Wales Alumni ’13. Matt has had the opportunity to work directly under Top Chef: Just Desserts winner Chris Hanmer, Food Network Host Keegan Gerhard, and he is ready to pass some knowledge on to you!

Hank currently works for arguably the most up-and- coming/competitive MT programs in America, the University of Arizona. He has a keen eye for what schools are looking for in your audition prep... This is a workshop not to be missed!

D115 DANCE MASTERCLASS Julie Bour (CalArts) The class will explore the momentum of skeletal initiations, and efficient muscularity of the body through a sequential, joint-articulated physicality. Through traveling movement phrases we will explore complex port de bras, great shifts of weight, use of space, circular patterning and change of levels. This training aims to break down and analyze different modalities of movement frequently occurring in contemporary choreographic processes.

D119 MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE AUDITION CLASS Karla Kash (University of Albany) Whether you are a true triple threat or dance is not your strong suit,learn how to put your best foot forward during a dance call for musical theatre programs. Come prepared to learn a jazz/hip hop combination. Jazz shoes or sneakers preferred.

D120 CREATIVE WRITING COLLEGE PANEL Come learn about the Creative Writing college experience firsthand from current students and recent graduates in the top BFA and MFA programs in the country. Schools represented include Chapman University, UCI, the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and USC. Panelists will discuss the pitfalls and perks of their paths through the BFA and MFA programs, the realities of planning to write for a living—or finding a living in order to write, and the unique aspects of the programs they attended.

D121 TIPS AND TRICKS OF DOCUMENTARY EDITING Jacob Bricca (University of Arizona) This class will show how documentary films are constructed from the ground up, with numerous examples from recent documentaries such as Cartel Land, The Keepers, Stories We Tell, O.J.: Made in America, and more.

CKTC2 EVENT CENTER KITCHEN - CULINARY SEMINAR (12PM - 1:30PM) Chef Bill Barber (OCC Hot Food Team Coach and 2017 OCC Hot Food Team) In this hands-on, interactive demonstration, students will see strategies to capture and boost flavor by incorporating bi-products into their recipes and menu planning. Bi-products are defined as items that may be left over when fabricating a protein, fruit or vegetable for a “center-of-the-plate” cut. Whether you are a culinary competitor, or a cook that would like to increase your culinary repertoire with a focus on flavor and profitability, you will see and practice culinary techniques that you can apply in everyday menu applications.

D115 DANCE MASTERCLASS Tiffanie Carson (Shenandoah University) This contemporary jazz class offers fast-paced, kinetically charged movement that incorporate elements of jazz technique and contemporary modern styles. Warm-up and exercises include deep stretching, release technique, isolations, spinal articulations, and floor work to awaken the body and get the blood pumping, Tiffanie will challenge and encourage the dancers to bring their most present, athletic, and virtuosic selves to the exercises and combinations.

D101 CLASSICAL VOICE MASTERCLASS Dr. Peter Atherton (Chapman University) Dr. Atherton will lead a masterclass focusing on what an audition panel looks for in collegiate auditions. Areas of focus will include, but are not limited to: audition technique and preparation, communication of text and music, expression, dressing for success, performance anxiety, and more. A bass-baritone, Dr. Atherton is a celebrated performer and pedagogue who has had much success as a performer and teacher of opera, oratorio, musical theatre and recital. His globe-spanning career has taken him to the most prestigious art centers of the world.

The showcase will comprise mostly films but may also include some graphic design work and musical compositions.
