Meet the Staff

Dave Nerdin – Scout Master/Course Director

Dave lives in Lehi with his wife Rhonda and has four children: Skyler (Kinzlee), Trevor (Candace), Ashlee and Braxton and four awesome grandchildren (the latest just arrived last Thursday!). Dave works in the airline software industry for Navitaire, a division of Accenture. He enjoys serving at the Lehi Round-up Rodeo and has been a member on the committee for over 30 years. He is currently serving as the Lehi Dis- trict Commissioner and is Stake Young Men President in the Lehi East Stake.

Jeff Carpenter – ASM Program/Assistant Course Director

Jeff was born early in 1959 in Evanston, Wyoming. He is the first of five children. His dad was his first Scoutmaster. He served a mission for the LDS church in the Italy, Padova Mission in the late 70s. He married his wife, Lori, in 1981, in the Manti Temple. They are the parents of five children and also have six grandchildren. Jeff and Lori have lived in Bakersfield, CA, Dallas, TX and Lenggries, Germany. Jeff is currently employed by Digital Technology International, a global provider of software solutions for daily newspapers, as CIO/VP. Jeff enjoys many types of audio/visual hobbies: photography, music and printed communication. His extra-curricular love in High School and college was technical theater he also did broadcast- ing and pro-audio DJ-ing. His career has taken him around the world several times with extensive travel. He enjoys reading, photography and fishing. Jeff has been involved in as a Venture leader, as ward and stake Young Mens President. Jeff was a Wood Badge participant in 2005. This is his 4th opportunity to serve on staff for Wood Badge. His current scouting responsibility is ADC in the Lehi District.

Lawrence Durtschi – ASM Support Lawrence is from Ephraim, UT. He grew up in Idaho Falls. He is married to Denise Bird and has five chil- dren, all adopted. He works for Snow College as the Director of Web Services. GO BADGERS!!! He was able to attend the 2010, 100 year anniversary, National Jamboree with his son. He is looking for- ward to going again next year with another son as a Troop ASM. He has served in scouting for fourteen years and loves it. He is an Eagle Scout and is proud to have earned his Wood Badge. He enjoys family, golf, camping, fishing and computers.

Nicole Lemon – ASM Troop Guides

Nicole Lemon was born in Provo, Utah and is the oldest of six. She married her High School Sweetheart in the Provo Temple in 1992. They are the parent of 3 boys. Nicole is currently employed by her active chil- dren and husband. Some of her hobbies include being an avid reader, (there is always a book nearby), sew- ing, playing the piano, and cooking. She enjoys supporting her sons and husband in their various scouting activities. She has served in many scouting positions. She is currently the Lehi District Cub Round Table Commissioner, a Bear Den Leader, a member of her units Scout Committee, and a vicarious Assistant Scout Master to her over-achieving Scout Master Husband.

Cam Holman – Senior Patrol Leader Cameron was born in 1960 to parents living in Pleasant Grove, Utah. The family moved to Lehi in 1962 to the corner of Whipple Drive. He is the second of four children, the oldest of three brothers. Growing up in a small town was everything it should be – as fun and interesting as boys can make it. He served an LDS mission to the Wellington, New Zealand Mission in the early 1980s. He married his wife, Gwen, in 1982 in the Provo Temple. They are the parents of four children. The family has resided in their current Lehi home since 1987, only a few blocks from Whipple Drive. He is employed as a Safety Director for the Clyde Companies. Prior years were employed in the advanced composites industry. He loves any activity in the outdoors and with his family. That love of the outdoors was first shaped as a boy in scouting. Cameron attended a Varsity Wood Badge course as a participant in 1995 at the urging of a great mentor Lenny Wing. He has spent his adult life serving in most every Boy Scouting capacity. He had the honor of serving as Bishop of his boyhood ward created just prior to his mission. He currently serves as a Crew Advisor. Scott Larsen – Scribe

Scott was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Orem, Utah. He is the second of seven children. He served an LDS mission to Seoul, Korea in the mid 80’s and graduated from Brigham Young University with a dou- ble major in International Finance and Korean. He later earned his MBA degree from BYU. Scott married his beautiful wife Cori in the Salt Lake Temple in 1991 and they are the parents of three girls and one boy. They started out their married life in New York City, but later returned to Utah and built a home in Lehi. Scott is self employed as a consultant for teleradiology companies in the United States, assisting with sales, marketing and service. He also owns a company that creates family history charts. Scott is an Eagle Scout and is currently the COR in his unit and has served as Venture Advisor, Scoutmaster and New . This is Scott’s third Wood Badge course, attending his first in June of 2005.

Lori Carpenter – Assistant Scribe

Lori was born in Vernal, Utah. She is the fourth of five children, three brothers and one sister. In July of 1981 she married her sweetheart and her life was changed for the better. They have five children, three daughters followed by two sons. They have lived in many places, including, Vernal, Payson, Springville, and Orem, UT; Bakersfield, CA; Carrollton, TX; Lenggries, Germany and currently live in Lehi, UT. Their daughters have blessed them with six wonderful grandchildren, three boys and three girls. Lori has been blessed to be a stay-at-home mom and grandma. In Scouting she has served as Webelos Leader, Advancement Chairper- son, Committee member & District Webelos Leader, as well as helping her two son's achieve Eagle Scout rank. She has served on several Wood Badge staffs including Quartermaster, Troop Guide and now as Assistant Scribe, each time en- joying that experience serving with her husband. Lori enjoys traveling and hiking with her husband, reading, scrapbook- ing and being grandma.

Mel Jacobsen – Quartermaster

Mel has lived most of his life in Sanpete County. He grew up in Moroni, went to North Sanpete High School, and attended Snow College. Mel has lived in Ephraim while working at Snow College for the past 30 years. While attending Snow College back in the 70's, he met his wife Carol. They were married in Au- gust of 1973 and have three children, a daughter and two sons. His sons are still single. His daughter, along with her husband and our two grandchildren live in Omaha, Nebraska. Mel teaches math at Snow College and has had numerous opportunities to serve in scouting positions over the years. I am grateful

Clint Greenwood– Assistant Quartermaster

Clint is from Lehi, UT and is serving as Assistant Quartermaster. Prior to this course Clint served as a ward clerk for Bishop Dave Nerdin (our Scoutmaster). Clint first attended Wood Badge in June 2008 at Scofield, where it was freezing and snowed. Clint is a registered nurse and he owned and operated Greenwood Manor, an assisted living care center in Lehi, until he recently sold it. In Scouting, Clint served as New Scout

Dean Larsen – Assistant Quartermaster

Dean has been involved in scouting most of his life. He received the Eagle Scout Award in 1970 at age 14 and Duty to God Award at age 16. Also at age 16 he served on the All Church Explorer Committee. After serving in the England London South Mission (1974-1976), he was called to serve as Assistant Scout Master. After being married, he served Cubmaster. Later he served as First Counselor in the Young Men’s Presidency and also Varsity Scout Leader. During that time he also served on the District Advancement Committee for ap- proximately five years after which he served for about three years as District Advancement Chairman. He was later called to serve in the Stake Young Men’s Presidency as 1st Counselor and was later called to serve as Stake Young Men’s President. While serving in the Stake Young Men’s, he served on three Varsity All-Star courses where he served as Course Director in 2008. He attended Wood Badge as a participant in 2003 and has since served on Wood Badge staff in 2009 and 2011. During his time involved in scouting he received the Second Miler Award, District Award of Merit, as well as the in September 2010. Dean has been married 34 years, has 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, that are married, and have all been sealed in the temple. He has 6 grandchildren and one on the way. Both of his sons are Eagle Scouts, and both have served missions. Both of my daughters earned their Young Women’s Personal Progress Award. He enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family. He is currently serving as Bishop of the Lehi 20th Ward. Angela Crowley – Assistant Quartermaster Angela was born in Ogden Utah. Her first home was the Utah School for the Deaf where her father was the Dean of Students and her mother taught reading. Her parents moved to Monticello when she was little to get out of the city and to have horses for the kids. She is the youngest of five children and grew up 15 miles from town. Having animals and room to run, be noisy and learn the responsibility of caring for “critters” was a wonderful experience. She loves music and has played piano for church since she was in high school. Angela earned her Young Womanhood Recognition in 1990. She is the mother of seven wonderful children. She has held many callings, including Stake Young Women’s Secretary, Pri- mary Chorister, Cubmaster, and is currently the Relief Society 1st Counselor and Cubmaster. Needless to say, Angela’s husband, Kirk, supports her and makes it possible for her to help in so many areas. She has loved her time in Scouts and has been involved in bringing Cub Scouts to the Eastland Branch, where there had been an absence of youth for a number of years. She loves the fact that Brandon, her oldest son, was the first Eagle Scout from that first group of little Cubs. She has also helped bring Cub Scouting to Dove Creek, a tiny community in Colorado, 15 miles from Angela‘s home. She has earned the Big Foot Award and the Scout Spirit Award. Last fall, she was able to attend Wood Badge and this spring attended the EDGE Leadership training. Angela is a School Bus Driver and works for her husband’s trucking business, in their Eastland office, as a secretary. She is serving her second term on the Monticello High School’s Community Council, and has worked with the Eastland Recreation Committee for 15 years. Her favor- ite job is being Wife and Mom and is so grateful that this job will never end.

Alton Anderson – Troop Guide Alton is a life long scouter, he's worked with several troops and packs in many different positions. As a youth he worked extensively with the , and served on staff at Camp Maple Dell and a variety of district cam- poree's. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1985. Alton served an LDS mission in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He's been married for 18 years and has two great kids. He currently serves as Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 51 in Provo Utah. He enjoys camping, hunting, and just about anything in the great outdoors.

Brad Babcock – Troop Guide Brad is a life-long scout, having earned his Eagle award in 1977. As an adult leader Brad as served as Varsity Coach, Cub- master, Scoutmaster, COR, Venture Assistant Advisor, and has served on staff at All Stars and as a Lehi District Scoutmaster Trainer. He has received the District Second Miler award. Brad served an LDS mission to Taiwan, Kaohsiung. He has coached youth soccer for six years and enjoys track & field, cycling and skiing. Brad has 10 children, one set of twins and two adopted from Taiwan. He also has seven grandchildren. Brad works for Roberts & Schaefer (KRB Company) as a Senior Engineer Manager and received his BS and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering and Engineering Management from Brigham Young Uni- versity.

Elizabeth Shumway – Troop Guide

Elizabeth used to be a Beaver and is a Scouter with many interests. She currently serves as a Cub and Scout committee chair with her local unit in Lehi. She also serves on the Lehi District Advancement Committee approving Eagle Scout projects and conducting Eagle boards of review. She completed Wood Badge in 2011 at Camp Tifie during Family Odyssey week. She was awarded the Lehi District Second Miler award in 2011. She has also been awarded her On My Honor award for her service with the Cub Scouts. She is very physi- cally active and loves to ride her mountain bike. She is a graduate of Southern Utah University in technology education and is mother of a beautiful young woman and an active eleven year old scout.

James Levao – Troop Guide

James Faletufuga Levao was born on the Island of , but lineage traces back through the Independent Country of Samoa. He grew up in Samoa until he was 10, then his parents moved the entire family to . There he learned to speak English. He became very involved with . At age 14 he became the youngest in his family to receive the rank of Eagle. He was inducted into the Boy Scout National Honor Society and Order of the Arrow. Soon after he moved to Utah, where he earned the Varsity letter and the Denali Award. He excelled in football for American Fork. He enjoyed the sport, but his goals were focused in a different direction. He wanted to serve a full-time mission. Prior to entering the MTC he received the Order of the Arrow's Highest Honor called the Vigil Honor. He was given the name Wulamehelleu Machque, which means Gen- tle Bear. He was called to serve in the New York New York City South Mission where he picked up his third and fourth languages. After his mission, while at Snow College, he tried out for the LD Singers and was surprised to learn he made the choir, not knowing that he would soon after fall in love with a beautiful, blue eye, blond hair girl from Brigham City. They were married and now have a beautiful baby girl and are hoping for nine more. At least that is the plan. Josh Pulham – Troop Guide

Josh was born in June of 1984 in American Fork, UT. He has two younger brothers and two younger sisters. Josh has always been involved in scouting from cub scouts to earning his Eagle. He served a full time mis- sion in the England Leeds mission from 2003-2005. It was one of the greatest experiences of his life, and one day hopes of returning. After returning from his mission, Josh attended UVSC working towards a busi- ness degree. He is a paint contractor by profession and enjoys wood working on the side. Josh attended Wood Badge in June of 2008 while planning to get married a few weeks later. After Wood Badge, Josh married his best friend Whitney on July 31, 2008 in the Salt Lake Temple. Josh welcomed his first child in April of 2011 and loves every second spent with her. Josh has served in many areas of scouting from 11 year old blazers to Scoutmaster/ Course Direc- tor of Timberline.

Tracy Shock – Troop Guide

Tracy is 40 years young. He was born in Provo and moved to Lehi when he was three. He attended Lehi High School, UVU and graduated from Weber State. He served and LDS mission in Mississippi and Louisi- ana. He has been a scoutmaster four times for a total of over eight years. He attended Wood Badge near Cazzie Reservoir. He is married to Kim Miller and has a daughter, Alyssa, from a previous marriage. Dave Nerdin was Tracy’s scoutmaster when Tracy was an 11-year-old scout. Tracy likes anything that gets him outdoors, including rock hounding, dirt bikes, fishing boating, hiking and eating good food.

Travis Lemon – Troop Guide

As the youngest of four boys Travis was involved in scouting and taking part in den meetings as his mom was the den leader for his older brothers. His dad took the scouts on week long trips to the Uintas on more than one occasion before he was 12 and he was able to tag along. Since those early experiences he served in his local troop and on timberline staff for many years. He attended Wood Badge at Scofield in 2005 while serving as the Venture Leader in his ward. For the last year he has served as an 11-year old scout leader and has recently become the Charter Organizational Representative for his unit. Travis has been married for 14 years to his wonderful wife Marnee. They have five children and enjoy camping and playing games as a family. For the past 13 years Travis has taught junior high school students. He loves the youth and hopes to provide great opportunities for them to learn and lead.

Wendy Wiltbank – Troop Guide

Wendy Wiltbank was born in Murray, Utah in 1975 and was raised in Centerville, Utah. She has two brothers and no sisters. Her father, Donald Watts, was a scoutmaster during her formative years. That is where she gets her love of scouting. After graduating from Viewmont High School in 1993, Wendy had the opportunity to live in Voronezh, Russia for one year where she taught English to preschool aged children. While there she was able to travel to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev, Ukraine. Wendy served a full-time LDS Mission in Ft. Lauderdale Florida from February 1997-August 1998. In April of 1999 Wendy married Jack Wiltbank and know is the proud mother of five boys. Jack and Wendy lived in Mesa Arizona and Boise Idaho before settling in Lehi, Utah. Between Russia and her mission, Wendy attended the University of Utah – Go UTES!!
