A citizen of Italy and Guatemala, Italo studied political science at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Morton C. Blackwell President, Leadership Institute Professionally, Morton Blackwell is the president of the Leadership Institute, a non-partisan educational foundation he founded in 1979. His Institute prepares conservatives for success in politics, government, and the news media. Over the years the Leadership Institute has trained more than 200,000 students. Its total revenue since 1979 is over $251 million. It currently has revenue of almost $15 million per year and a full-time staff of 72. He serves on the governing boards of a dozen conservative and Republican organizations at the national, state, and local levels. In youth politics, Mr. Blackwell was a College Republican state chairman and a Young Republican state chairman in Louisiana. He served on the Young Republican National Committee for more than a dozen years, rising to the position of Young Republican National Federation national vice chairman at large. Off and on for five and a half years, 1965-1970, he worked as executive director of the College Republican National Committee under four consecutive College Republican national chairmen. He served on the Louisiana Republican state central committee for eight years. First elected to the Arlington County (Virginia) Republican Committee in 1972, he is a member of the Virginia Republican state central committee and was first elected in 1988 as Virginia’s Republican National Committeeman (RNC), a post he still holds. In 2004 he was elected to a term on the Executive Committee of the RNC. Having worked actively in politics for more than fifty years, he has probably trained more political activists than any other conservative. Starting in the 1960s, he has trained thousands of people who have served on staff for conservative and Republican candidates in every state. Mr. Blackwell was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate to the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco. He was a national convention Alternate Delegate for Ronald Reagan in 1968 and 1976, and a Ronald Reagan Delegate at the 1980 national convention. In 1980, he organized and oversaw the national youth effort for Ronald Reagan. He served as Special Assistant to the President on President Reagan’s White House Staff 1981-1984. Mr. Blackwell is something of a specialist in matters relating to the rules of the Republican Party. He served on rules committees of the state Republican parties in Louisiana and in Virginia. He serves now on the RNC’s Standing Committee on Rules and has attended every meeting of the Republican National Conventions’ Rules Committees since 1972. • I Used to Be Antifa Gabriel Nadales
I Used to be Antifa Gabriel Nadales There was a time in my life when I was angry, bitter, and deeply unhappy. I wanted to lash out at the whole “fascist” system—the greedy, heartless power structure that didn’t care about me or the rest of society’s innocent victims, a system that had robbed, beaten and stolen from my ancestors. The whole corrupt edifice deserved to be brought down, reduced to rubble. I was a perfect recruit for Antifa, the left-wing group which claims to fight against fascism. And so, I became a member. Now I was one of those who had the guts to fight against “the fascists” who were exploiting disadvantaged people. I wasn’t a ‘card-carrying’ antifascist—there is no such thing as an official Antifa membership. But I was ready at a moment’s notice to slip on the black mask and march in what Antifa calls “the black bloc”—a cadre of other black-clad Antifa members— to taunt police and destroy property. Antifa stands for “antifascist,” but that’s purposefully deceptive. For one thing, the very name is calibrated so that anyone who dares to criticize the group or its tactics can be labeled “fascist.” This allows Antifa to justify violence against all who dare stand up or speak out against them. A few groups boldly declare themselves Antifa, like “Rose City Antifa” in Portland. But most don’t, preferring to avoid the negative publicity. That’s part of Antifa’s appeal—and strength: It’s hard to pin down.

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 2 ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to investigate whether the Reagan administration was influenced by ‘New Right’ ideas. Foreign policy issues were chosen as test cases because the presidency has more power in this area which is why it could promote an aggressive stance toward the United Nations and encourage withdrawal from UNESCO with little impunity. Chapter 1 deals with American society after 1945. It shows how the ground was set for the rise of Reagan and the New Right as America moved from a strong affinity with New Deal liberalism to a new form of conservatism, which the New Right and Reagan epitomised. Chapter 2 analyses the New Right as a coalition of three distinctive groups: anti-liberals, New Christian Right, and neoconservatives.

  • Libertarians in Bush's World
ESSAY ON LIBERTY+ LIBERTARIANS IN BUSH’S WORLD Todd Seavey* Imagine ordinary, non-ideological people hearing about an obscure politi- cal sect called libertarianism, which emphasizes self-ownership, property rights, resistance to tyranny and violence, the reduction of taxation and regulation, control over one’s own investments, and the de-emphasizing of litigation as a primary means of dispute resolution. Since this philosophy has very few adherents in the general population and is very much a minority position among intellectuals, one might expect proponents of the creed to count themselves lucky, given the likely alternatives, if the president of the country in which most of them live increasingly emphasized the themes of freedom and ownership in his major speeches; toppled brutal totalitarian regimes in two countries while hounding democracy-hating theocratic terrorists around the globe; cut taxes (despite howls even from some in the free-market camp that the cuts were too deep); called for simplification of the tax code; appointed relatively industry-friendly officials to major regulatory bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration despite frequent criti- cism by the media; proposed partially privatizing Social Security (America’s largest socialist boondoggle but one long regarded as sacrosanct by political analysts); and pushed tort reform to combat the chilling effect of lawsuits on doctors and manu- facturers. + Essays on Liberty is a continuing series of the Journal of Law & Liberty, dedicated to explorations of freedom and law from perspectives outside the legal academy. * Director of Publications for the American Council on Science and Health (ACSH.org, HealthFactsAnd- Fears.com), which does not necessarily endorse the views expressed here.

THE RIPON SOCIETY HAS MOVED. THE NEW ADDRESS IS: 1609 CONNECTICUT AVE., N. W. WASHINGTO~, D. C. 20009 AUGUST 1, 1975 VOL. XI No. 15 50 Cents THE YOUNG REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION: COMMEITUY: TBE GOP THE REAGAN RALLY THAT WASN'T If Ronald Reagan was serious about nJRDfng for President, the Young Republican National Federation CORvention in Indianapolis in early July should have been a Reagan rally. Ever since con 'servatives took over the organization in i963 as a prelude to Sen. Barry Goldwater's presidential nomination a year later, the YRNF has been solidly in conservative hands. It still is---so the stage was set for an impressive demonstration of Reagan's popularity with the Republican troops. But the Reagan rally never materialized. Part of the problem was Reagan himself. The only two mysteries of 1976 presidential poli tics so .far have been whether Reagan will really end up running and whether Nelson Rockefeller will end up as Gerald Ford's nmning mate. Without these two question on which to speculate, political columnists would have had a dull year. But in Indianapolis, Reagan declined to capitalize on his backing from the top YR leadership---or the "Team" as they are now known. The Reagan problem was summed up in the New York Times by new YR Vice Chairman Morton Blackwell of Virginia: "This is not a pro-Ford convention. ~ut the opportunity for a Reagan candidacy to benefit from this convention was lost-deliberately, I think-by the Reagan forces. The "Team leadership. here was prepared to do overt things on behalf of Reagan, but Reagan's people said all they wanted was an open convention reS' olution.

  • We Welcome Your Support in Our Nonpartisan War on Waste. It's Your
PAID ADVERTISEMENT President Donald J. Trump The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President, In our previous two communications in The Wall Street Journal, we called attention to the lurking threat our country faces from an exploding national debt fueled by runaway government spending. We urged you to lead a national campaign to restore fi scal soundness to our great country by waging a nonpartisan War on Waste. From a recent U.S. Government Accountability Offi ce report*: “Since 2003…cumulative improper payment estimates have totaled about $1.4 trillion.” $1,400,000,000,000. Examples of improper payments are payments to doctors with suspended or revoked medical licenses or to people identifi ed as deceased in federal death fi les. A War on Waste is long overdue. We respectfully recommend that you announce to the nation that you are beginning a four-step War on Waste, that stamping out profl igate government spending is a top priority of your administration. Step 1 – Start a Transparency Revolution Publicize every White House expenditure. Direct every department and agency in your administration to follow suit. Classifi ed expenditures would be excluded. Transparency will be a culture-changing force. It will revolutionize government. It will infl uence how people vote. Knowing there is nowhere to hide will motivate politicians to earn votes with fi scal prudence rather than wasting taxpayer dollars by buying votes. We are living in the Information Age and the Big Data world. There is no reason why every government expenditure should not be public, accessible to the voting public via cell phone, computer, and iPad.
