 Welcome – DM welcomed all members and thanked them for their attendance.

 Previous meeting minutes - (17th October 2016) DM moved that the draft minutes are true and correct record of the previous meeting. This was seconded DS.

 Audit update

- Only 2 more audits to go. HB working to secure auditors for Mt and Omanu over the next few weeks. - Opotiki Audit (12th February 2017) - AP - LS to formally contact chair and find out further information and clarification - provide brief report back to LC - Maketu Audit - A number of reasons for lack of patrolling members - committee wants to see continued collaboration with other clubs to ensure that Maketu is able to patrol. CGC advised that the POM minim is actually 2 members, confirmed with POM. Recalculation needed of 18th Feb Audit. HB advised 71/72 - AP - CGC to recalculate on SLSNZ data base.

 SLG Exam update

- Danielle Shepherd - All exams completed, all went well with each having their own little hiccups. - Pukehina candidates not being upto standard, concern for the committee. - Really nice having guards from other areas join in (Coro clubbies coming to BOP) Want to run some Patrol Support exams over winter to get people involved and then they can work on swimming. - Idea to run theory evenings for all clubs to come and join, instructors from clubs to help run sessions. e.g. Dennis takes CPR. AP - DS and CGC to work more on these ideas. - AP - DS to correlate exam feedback and circulate to other CL members before sending to Belinda. - AP -DS to talk with Pukehina about the standard of candidates.

 IRB Exam update

- Theory evenings completed, practical exam completed with Shaun Smith and managed to get 12 candidates through. HB requests for more theory exams to ready candidates for surf. AP CGC to speak with Stu about further theory exams and ask if some practical can be completed. - Crewman Award Discussion Paper – Belinda Slement - CGC has taken some notes, AP - CGC to contact SL and gather feedback from him on the changes. CGC to contact Belinda and see if BOP can run a pilot program locally.

 Course update

- Chaz Gibbons - 1x Instructor and 1x PC course completed, DS has offered to run another course over the next school holidays.

 General Business - Formally thank Briar for her work with Maketu Patrols - AP CGC to draft thanks letter and run past DM before sending. - Maketu SLSC Membership - ideas floated to get more members in Maketu, DS suggested sharing some instructing around AP - CGC to work with Maketu over the winter to see about ways of increasing their patrol numbers. Patrol Support? Locals? High School? Iwi Liaison? - Follow up SLGA exam, AP - DS to investigate date - Ian McKay wants to get involved in Auditing. Get him involved with a mentorship and start

auditing. AP - HB to contact Ian for next season. - LC discussed issues arising from one of Omanu’s critical patrol dates (Sat 6th Jan 2017) and the flow on effect to the Tay Street Patrol. Omanu did have sufficient numbers on patrol and meet their minimum patrolling requirements, however they needed to ask Mt Maunganui for assistance to meet their Tay St commitments. Omanu explained it as an internal issue that had been brewing for some time, every effort was made prior to the above date to address any short comings, and these have been worked through and resolved. - NLSC TOR coming up for renewal, BOP LC to start thinking about who can take over from Stu Lowth - Review of FA Level 1 & 2 – CE & DM explained the History and current discussion which is being had regarding these awards. FA Level 1 needs to be universal across all providers for the basic entry first aid. 6400, 6401, 6402 - Level 1, First aid level 2 should then be 25411 (Defib) & 14473 (Transport) and introduce O2. (O2 should be introduced at the earliest stage as studies show better outcomes can be achieved, however assessment should be at level 2 to keep consistent with other providers). - LC had discussion regarding the TOR for the BOP LC, CE brought up the current TOR as suggested the Changes mooted by the last ER Chairs Meeting, he also reiterated the timings for meetings. LC agreed as a group on when to set the next meeting. - Missing November 8th Minutes - AP - LS to locate minutes from 8th November and email out as per process. - ECOS Matrix Discussion - Work was done with the LC at the Nov meeting, further work may be needed. Need something simpler, AP - CGC to provide more examples at the next meeting, log as an agenda item. - How to update members with the correct instructor’s manual? Discussion around sending out the link to the new material at the start of the season? AP - CGC to look to include link in future SLGA Exam emails as well as to key people at the start of the season and new instructors once course is complete. -

Ian McKay from Mt wants to become an auditor, Next Season HB to work with him to get him teamed up for next HB season, to be mentored into the role.

Member Protection for Instructors & Examiners – For next Health & Safety LS see September minutes. season

Feedback regarding the SLGA Exam to be DS & correlated and sent onto Belinda Slement for CGC March review.

DS to speak with Pukehina regarding the standard

of instructing as alot of candidates not doing well DS Next Meeting at exams. Identify any areas where support can be SLG Award offered.

Running winter camps for Patrol Support and April Lifeguards, these could be theory evenings run DS &

once a week by subject matter experts. CGC and CGC

DS to work more on this idea and out something together for clubs to contribute too.

Further theory exams to be arranged in

preparation for favourable conditions for a practical SL & CGC ASAP On going exam.

CGC to work closely with Maketu SLSC to increase Maketu Capability their patrol capability for next season – ideas CGC & JG May/June/July noted above in minutes.
