Town of Culture & Recreation Newsletter

Email: [email protected] Website: www.kerrobertsk.com Phone: (306)834-2344 Office—Kerrobert Courthouse 433 Manitoba Ave News from the for Oct 2017 Welcome to October. Harvest is going along nicely and near completion. There are fall suppers in town and surrounding communities to go out and enjoy. The foliage is turn- ing colors and is nice to look at, although you know it means the temperatures are ready to descend on a more consistent basis and old man winter will soon show his cold smile. Hopefully the snow can stay away for a long while yet.

As far as all of the leaves falling to the ground, sign up to rent a couple students to help clean them up from your property. It is a good cause for the school and will save your back for another day. Signup sheets can be found at a few places of business in town.

If you love football like I do, come out and support both the Junior and Senior Rebel football teams. At the time I am writing this letter, both teams remain undefeated and are very exciting to watch. I think there could be a couple championships in their fu- ture. The Rage and Tiger hockey clubs along with our minor hockey teams are ready to rock the Arena for another great year of hockey. The Arena is a fantastic place to come out and support our teams and visit with friends.

It is with a heavy heart that we will be saying goodbye to a couple very important pieces to our office staff. First off, Lana Bajema joined the town in October of 2015. It was ini- tially going to be a temporary fill in, but she was able to give us her expertise right up until even now as Lana has agreed to help in any way to train new staff in some of the day to day tasks. Lana has accepted a job closer to home and family in at the Community College. Continued on next page

News from the Mayor Lana, thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication that you have given our community with keeping the office afloat and just know that you are welcome here anytime.

Our Administrator Monica Merkosky joined us in January of 2016. Monica brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise that we will continue to utilize going forward. Mon- ica is just a phone call away and she will help us out teaching our other staff how to do things or if we just need advice in certain situations. The office was in dire need of help when she arrived and she has helped not only get everything caught up and straight- ened out, but has installed improvements with how things are done now and moving forward. She has been a mentor and a friend and she will be deeply missed. Monica, our door will always be open for you.

On a more positive note, I would like to officially welcome Veronica Smith to our office staff. She is fitting in very well and we are very happy to have her aboard. For the next month or so, we will be joined by Bev Dahl who will be our acting Administrator. Bev brings years of experience and she will be in contact with Monica and Council to keep everything moving forward. We have been advertising for both the Administrator and assistant Administrator positions and hope to fill those positions as soon as we can. Al- so, former office employee Karen Johnson has agreed to help us out by taking minutes at our Council meetings and we are thankful to Karen and the Town of Kindersley for helping us out. I talked to Mayor Rod Perkins and CAO Bernie Morton, and they are willing to help out however they can, so thank you to our neighbors to the south for the assistance and we look forward to the friendships and partnerships in the future.
