A Long-Time Saint James School Tradition Is Making a Major Comeback—And We Want You to Be a Part of It A long-time Saint James School tradition is making a major comeback—and we want you to be a part of it. Please join us in welcoming back the Saint James School Invitational Basketball Tournament, scheduled for March 10-12, 2016. The event will be held on our home court, at Saint James School, in Hagerstown, MD. The Saint James Invitational Tournament (SJIT) was first held in 1974, setting the standard for high school basketball tournaments. Now, it is poised to return, better than ever. The tournament will once again bring nationally recognized high school teams from around the country to play high-level, competitive varsity basketball. We are proud to reinstate this important part of the School’s history, and with it, the opportunity for Saint James athletes to play national level basketball against exceptional teams, and to earn recognition for their talent and hard work. The enthusiasm, patronage and support of our community is vital to the success of this tournament. Please review the various ways you can sponsor this great event. SJIT Fast Facts: Did You Know? The first SJIT was held in 1974. The annual tournament continued for an impressive 29 seasons until 2002. The SJIT gave rise to many notable players including: o Tracy McGrady (retired, Orlando Magic) o Dennis Scott (retired, Orlando Magic) o Jerry Stackhouse (retired, Brooklyn Nets) o Jason Capel (retired, KK Crvena zvezda of the Naša Sinalko Liga, Serbia) o Don Anderson (deceased, Florida A&M Assistant Coach) o Randolph Childress (19th pick by the Detroit Pistons, Wake Forest Assistant Coach) o George Lynch (12th overall pick by the LA Lakers) The tournament provided a standard for how to run a national-level high school basketball competition. By the 1980’s, the SJIT brought four national and four regional teams together to compete. Eight teams will play in the 2016 SJIT. o Saint James School (MD) o Benedictine High School (VA) o Our Savior New American School (NY) o St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) o Riverdale Baptist School (MD) o Cesar Chavez (DC) o Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) o Broadfording Christian Academy (MD) 2016 SJIT Sponsorship Levels March 10th-12th Elite Level Package: $10,000 Platinum Level Package: $1,000 Naming Opportunities -Logo on tournament shirt, cover of program Full page ad in Tournament Program and on first page of the SJIT website Mention ad on tournament website Banner style sign in gym during the SJIT Sign in gym during tournament VIP parking and VIP seating located under the basket (2)-3 day passes 4 priority seats next to scorers table Concession stand vouchers (8)-3 day passes Vouchers for hospitality room Gold Level Package: $500 8 tournament shirts ½ page ad in Tournament Program Diamond Level Package: $5,000 Mention ad on tournament website (2)- 3 day passes Sponsorship ad on Tournament website and Tournament Program Concession stand vouchers Sponsorship Banner in gym during the SJIT Silver Level Package: $250 VIP parking and VIP seating located under the basket ¼ page ad in Tournament Program (8)-3 day passes Mention ad on tournament website Vouchers for hospitality room (2)-3 day passes 6 tournament shirts Bronze Level Package: $100 Crystal Level Package: $2,500 Friends of the Tournament Program Sponsorship ad on Tournament website and Tournament and website mention Program Sign in Gym during Tournament VIP parking and VIP seating under the basket (6)-3 day passes Concession stand vouchers 4 tournament shirts 2016 SJIT Sponsorship Registration Form March 10-12, 2016 Sponsor Information Sponsorship Opportunities Elite Level Package:$10,000 Name: ________________________________________________________ Diamond Level Package:$5,000 Business: _____________________________________________________ Crystal Level Package:$2,500 Address:______________________________________________________ Platinum Level Package:$1,000 City: __________________________________________________________ Gold Level Package:$500 State: ___________________________ Zip:_____________________ Silver Level Package:$250 Phone: _______________________________________________________ Bronze Level Package:$100 Cell: __________________________________________________________ Other Sponsorship Amount______________ E-mail: _______________________________________________________ Sponsorship Total $ ________________ Payment Options Registration Options Enclosed is my check in the amount of $ Mail: Saint James School payable to Saint James School. Raised in Charlotte and educated at Davidson, Curry’s triumphs add new chapters to North Carolina’s already impressive hoops tradition. Since picking an all-time starting five of players who played their high school ball in North Carolina might be difficult, Fayetteville Observer staff writer Stephen Schramm has chosen teams based on the state’s six area codes.

  • Renormalizing Individual Performance Metrics for Cultural Heritage Management of Sports Records
Renormalizing individual performance metrics for cultural heritage management of sports records Alexander M. Petersen1 and Orion Penner2 1Management of Complex Systems Department, Ernest and Julio Gallo Management Program, School of Engineering, University of California, Merced, CA 95343 2Chair of Innovation and Intellectual Property Policy, College of Management of Technology, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. (Dated: April 21, 2020) Individual performance metrics are commonly used to compare players from different eras. However, such cross-era comparison is often biased due to significant changes in success factors underlying player achievement rates (e.g. performance enhancing drugs and modern training regimens). Such historical comparison is more than fodder for casual discussion among sports fans, as it is also an issue of critical importance to the multi- billion dollar professional sport industry and the institutions (e.g. Hall of Fame) charged with preserving sports history and the legacy of outstanding players and achievements. To address this cultural heritage management issue, we report an objective statistical method for renormalizing career achievement metrics, one that is par- ticularly tailored for common seasonal performance metrics, which are often aggregated into summary career metrics – despite the fact that many player careers span different eras. Remarkably, we find that the method applied to comprehensive Major League Baseball and National Basketball Association player data preserves the overall functional form of the distribution of career achievement, both at the season and career level. As such, subsequent re-ranking of the top-50 all-time records in MLB and the NBA using renormalized metrics indicates reordering at the local rank level, as opposed to bulk reordering by era.
