RS FEVA PACK

The RS Feva gennaker pack consists of:

z 1 x gennaker (yellow or lilac). z 1 x (rigged). z 1 x outer pole bearing. z 1 x pack 3. z 1 x fitting pack 3. z 1 x bolt pack 3. z 1 x 100mm dacron patch.

To fit the gennaker pack you will require:

z 1 x 3mm Allen key. z 1 x Araldite adhesive.

FITTING THE GENNAKER PACK.

1. Remove the dacron cloth patch from the front of the gennacker chute, this will give you access to the bowsprit workings. 2. You will firstly have to untie the lifting handle and remove the 2 plastic discs, the rope and the elastic. 3. Fit the outer pole bearing into the front of the boat. Sometimes they are a tight fit, if this is so then it will probably not require any glue to hold it in place. If it is a lose fit it will need gluing in place (see figure 1). REMEMBER – wipe off any excess glue before it hardens, especially from inside the bearing.

4. Remove the deck eye from just in front of the pot, this can be discarded as it will be replaced by a halyard . Remove the 8 bolts from in front of the dagger board case (see figure 2), these too can be discarded as new ones are supplied. 5. Fit the 3 blocks, using 6 of the short bolts from the pack, in the positions shown in figure 2. 6.

Fit the halyard , ensuring the is fitted on the top and the wire guide is fitted on the bottom and facing forward. See figure 2.

Figure 2. (foredeck removed for illustration)

7. Pass the 2 of the bowsprit through the pole bearing and pull them out through the hole in the gennaker chute, pull them tight as you lift the bowsprit up to the pole bearing. 8. Push the end of the bowsprit into the pole bearing, it will be a tight fit at first so it may need a wiggle to get it through. 9. Once the bowsprit is through the outer bearing you will need to guide it through the inner bearing already fitted to the boat. (see figure 3)

Figure 3. (foredack removed for illustration)

10. Take the rope that exists from the side of the pole and pas it through the block attached to the inner pole bearing. IMPORTANT- that the rope is passed through the block for bottom to top. (see figure 4) 11. Tie the remaining block from the fittings pack to the end of this rope using a 'knot on a knot'.

(see figure 5) 12. Push the bowsprit fully in now. 13. At the aft end of the gennacker you should be able to reach up under the chute and retrieve the line that exits from the end of the bowsprit. Tie the end off to the block just infront of the mast pot, again using a 'knot on a knot'. (see figure 6)

RIGGING THE GENNAKER HALYARD.

1. Unpack the halyard and pass one end down through in the foredeck, just to starboard of the mast gate. 2. Pass the end of the halyard through the block directly below the hole. IMPORTANT – that you pass the rope from aft to forward. 3. Feed the end of the halyard up under the gennacker chute, to starboard of the bowsprit. 4. Retrieve it through the hole in the front of the gennaker chute. 5. Thread the halyard through the pole block (the block tied to the rope that exists from the side of the bowsprit).(see figure 8)

Figure 8.

6. Now thread the end of the halyard back through the hole and back under the gennaker chute, again to starboard of the pole. 7. The spinnaker halyard should run to starboard also of the hoist block in front of the mast pot. 8. Pass the halyard through the wire lead of the cleat and then through the cleat. 9. Through the block behind the cleat.

Now, holding the end of the halyard above the foredeck, pull on the halyard as if you are pulling the gennaker up. The pole should pull out. Look up under the gennaker chute and see if any of the ropes are twisted, they should not be.

10. Feed the halyard through the block and then up the gennaker chute, this is the rope that will pull the gennaker into the chute. 11. Fit the 100mm dacron patch over the hole in the front of the gennacker chute. 12. Follow the instructions in the Feva Manual on how to rig the gennacker for sailing.

Below is a picture of how the gennaker halyard is rigged but without the foredeck on. This will give you an idea of how the system works and help you understand the above instructions.
