FEATURE PRESENTATION • GIII SPIRAL S. Tamarando Sticks to Synthetic in Spiral cont. from p1 Tamarando was runner-up to California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) in the Jan. 25 Cal Cup Derby on the Santa Anita main track, but posted a career-best when beating Dance With Fate (Two Step Salsa) in the GIII El Camino Real Derby Feb. 15. Tamarando is a colt who thrives on his racing, according to Hollendorfer. AHe=s never gone backwards,@ the conditioner offered. AUsually if a horse is going backwards, we try to freshen them up and get them going again. He=s always been steadfastly going forward and that=s why he=s run as many times as he has and he hasn=t shown any inclination to be jogging off or anything like that, so we=ve just kept going.@ Hollendorfer added, AHe=s been very ultra-consistent for me. He=s been very bullet sound and he=s warming up to this race really well.@ Despite posting all four of his career victories to date over the synthetic tracks, Hollendorfer isn=t willing to pigeon-hole his charge as a surface specialist. AHe is a good horse and so I expect him to win on different kinds of racetracks, but most of his opportunities have been on the synthetic tracks,@ Hollendorfer pointed out. AIf we happen to get to the [GI Kentucky] Derby, there=s usually a good pace there and that will give him a good chance to pass some horses.@ Cont. p4 TDN P HEADLINE NEWS • 3/19/14 • PAGE 4 of 11 • thoroughbreddailynews.com Tamarando Sticks to Synthetic in Spiral cont.
