He has contributed to two parliamentary inquiry commissions of the German Bundestag on atmospheric protection, served several times as a lead or convening lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on climate mitigation issues, collaborated on major global energy analyses (including the IIASA- World Energy Council (WEC) "Global Energy Perspectives"), and for the World Energy Assessment, a joint effort of the United Nations Development Programme, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and WEC.

Mr Anders Levermann Professor of Dynamics of the Climate System, Earth System Analysis. Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research Born 1973 in Bremerhaven, Germany, Anders Levermann studied physics and mathematics in Marburg, Berlin and Kiel, where he completed his Diploma in 1999 with Prof. Dr. H.G. Schuster on spatio-temporal chaos control. He then went for his Ph.D. in theoretical physics to the Israeli Weizmann Institute of Sciences, where he completed his thesis on the physics of fractal growth patterns with Prof. Dr. I. Procaccia. Since 2003 he works at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Germany, initially as a postdoc with Prof. Dr. S. Rahmstorf, later as a Juniorprofessor. In 2007 he additionally became a Professor of Dynamics of the Climate System at Potsdam University. At present, his main area of research is the interaction of ocean and cryosphere in the climate system. At the age of 35, Prof. Dr. Anders Levermann is author of about 30 scientific publications, the climate science web-blog KlimaLounge, an article in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the “climate change” article of the German encyclopedia Brockhaus and contributing author of the Nobel-Peace-Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC). Prof. Levermann advises government representatives, members of parliament, political parties as well as economic stakeholders and journalists with respect to climate change issues.

Mr Kevin J. Noone Professor, Executive Director, International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Kevin Noone has degrees in Chemical Engineering, and Civil and Environmental En- gineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA (USA). He was on the faculty at Stockholm University (Sweden) from 1987-91, a research scientist and Ad- junct Professor of Oceanography at the Center for Atmospheric Chemistry Studies, Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island (USA) from 1992-1995, and was Professor of Meteorology and head of the Atmospheric Physics Division at the Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University from 2000-2004. Kevin is currently the Executive Director of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP), a post he has had since the autumn of 2004. He is also affiliated with the Department of Applied Environmental Science at Stockholm University. Early research work in Chemical Engineering focused on transparent semiconductors for use as solar cells in the generation of electricity. His primary research interests at present are in the area of atmospheric chemistry & physics, the effects of aerosols and clouds on air quality and the Earth's climate, and Earth System Science. He is an advocate of an interdisciplinary approach to obtaining a solid scientific basis for deci- sions on environmental and climate issues. He is author/co-author of more than 120 scientific articles and book chapters. Prof. Noone has headed up of a number of large international field experiments, and is (or has been) a member of a number of international committees and boards. He is Associate Editor of the journals Ambio and Atmospheric Research, and is Editor in Chief of the IGBP Global Change Newsletter. Kevin is active in conveying science to stakeholders and the general public. He regularly gives presentations and short courses on climate and Earth System Science for non-science audiences. He also interacts regularly with the media in international arenas.

Mr François Dejean Project officer – Climate change, European Environment Agency François Dejean joined the European Environment Agency (EEA) in June 2006. As project officer in the Climate Change and Energy group, his work focuses on the analysis and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and projections in Europe, and on the study of climate policies and measures, including the EU emission trading scheme. Prior to joining the EEA, François Dejean worked with Ernst & Young Sustainability Assurance and Advisory Services in Paris. His work for public and private clients covered diverse environmental issues (e.g. waste, climate change, water) and activities (e.g. data reporting & verification, environmental management, technical studies). François Dejean holds an advanced Master's degree in Environmental Management and Engineering from the Ecole des Mines de Paris, a M.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Stony Brook (New York) and graduated from Lyon School of Chemistry, Physics and Electronic (CPE Lyon) in 1998.
