God's musical voice slowly emerging (as a kind of main theme) and then, at the climax of the overture, awfully thundering with no underlying music. Sudden darkness and absolute silence fall on stage. Lights turn on the Angels Board of Directors meeting, several angels seated round a conference table. An administrative assistant, Bastianel, stands quietly aside when not engaged in passing out copies of documents, refilling cups, or fetching supplies. Gabriel, trancelike, eyes closed and arms raised, channels God’s thoughts in a kind of streamofconsciousness.) GABRIEL Bleak, blind, murky earth Doubing, doomed, desolate souls Violent, malignant, warring spirits withering wretched wasteland distress…distress (Gabriel’s meditative state ends. He opens his eyes and lowers his hands to his side. Picking up a tablet from the table, Gabriel assumes a direct and very serious manner, scanning his notes then addressing the collective of angels. ) 2 GABRIEL As your CEA I’ve called this emergency session At God’s request As these images demonstrate The Free Will Project Has not met God’s expectations Famine and Fear Terror and Greed Their ‘milestone’ of a new century Did nothing To keep their eyes on eternity And our merger with Globalism Still nets a gain in devastations God is firm The deadline is now We must act Use our insight And our influence To help fix this creation So I open the floor To your propositions GAZARDIEL I think it’s about time we show humans Those ignorant little creatures Let’s give them a run for their money! I’m talking about a serious punishment! A good old fashioned punishment! I’m talking about floods! I’m talking about massive earthquakes! 3 Let’s show them They’ve seen nothing yet! JOPHIEL Hate to say this But isn’t that kind of obvious? That’s pretty much What’s been going on lately… GAZARDIEL You don’t get it, do you? Let’s give them something They can’t misinterpret! A fire rain or a Deluge You get the picture. JOPHIEL Is chaos really the answer? More fear? More hate? More pain, more suffering? GAZARDIEL All right, all right You come up with something better. JOPHIEL How about this? A new Messiah! GAZARDIEL Look what happened to the last one? 4 JOPHIEL But this time it’s going to be different Thanks to modern technology Their methods can spread The word faster, more purely No riddles or parables or whatever they were A Prophet who dies happily …I like ‘happily’ GABRIEL This didn’t work as God planned last time. People divided instead of united. And it’s still getting worse day by day! Really makes God look bad. No, I’m afraid we can’t risk it GAZARDIEL I’m just saying Punishment! JOPHIEL Messiah! GAZARDIEL Punishment! JOPHIEL Messiah! BASTANIEL Excuse me! I’m very sorry to interrupt But I have an idea 5 GAZARDIEL But you are very small and insignificant GABRIEL We are running out of options here Let the boy speak BASTIANEL I mean what about Instead of messengers Who never fit in We could send leaders Who, instead of rejecting money and power Adapt them, use them as the tools they are To change big things, in bigger ways Creative minds, genious of the past times Look down into the Limbo I’m sure there we will find the right Men GAZARDIEL So you think some sinner Might fit better than A pure angel of God? JOPHIEL That must be the craziest idea I’ve heard in my life GABRIEL Be quiet, both of you! Bastianel, I like your idea It’s crazy, I admit 6 But at least it’s something new Now who do you have in mind? I want to hear some names GAZARDIEL and JOPHIEL JFK! MLK! GABRIEL Wounds too fresh ANGELS: Attila the Hun? Napoleon? GABRIEL Too much blood ANGELS: Aristotle? GABRIEL Out of touch. BASTIANEL How about Oscar Wilde? GABRIEL: Now you’re talking He could both think and talk JOPHIEL Maybe tbanking Could use a Bulldozer too? Forward thinking 7 GAZARDIEL With a strong arm to push through Politics, boundaries Rules and traditions and feuds GABRIEL The taproot of disease‐‐ BASTIANEL could be cured‐‐ and hunger too!! GABRIEL But who? ANGELS Leonardo GABRIEL No, we need someone to lead Not just go their own way BASTIANEL Joan of Arc! GABRIEL Finally! A fighter and a visionary But I still feel we lack of something Something more complex Not easily put in words BASTIANEL: 8 Maybe a composer, musician To transform the world stage But who’s the greatest of them all? (Pause. Gabriel and the angels exchange contemplative glances. Bastianel barely disguises disbelief. Almost with a hum, Bastianel softly prompts with “M“ Gabriel and the angel unwittingly catch the spark of her thought and shout triumphantly in unison): “MOZART! GABRIEL Go! Gather them! (All rush offstage. ) SCENE 2 IN HELL LUCIFER Have you noticed how God seems to talk down to us Like if he broke it down to us We’d turn to the light? Oh, but we know We know how it really goes We know what’s what Don’t we? CHORUS We do, Your Highness We know what’s what 9 LUCIFER It’s another fine day for us Terrible news from around the World A MEMBER OF THE CROWD Will you comment on the souls missing from Limbo, Your Highness? LUCIFER WHAT?! One of Lucifer’s aides walks over to her holding out a Blackberry, shows her the screen. Lucifer takes the Blackberry and scrolls rapidly, pursing her lips Another member of the crowd shouts out: The blogs say sixty‐three grams disappeared from Limbo! LUCIFER Sixty‐three grams would equal (looking up) three souls! (Pause, Lucifer gathers herself) Once again The Enemy tries to use a band‐aid To stop their own gunshot wound Three souls to save the World? Well isn’t that sweet CHORUS But aren’t you furious, Your Highness With enemy trying to interfere with 10 Your glorious plans? LUCIFER I’m not furious, I’m amused At least this’ll keep me From getting bored I think this is the moment To show who’s the boss For once and for all CHORUS Show them, Your Highness! For once and for all! LUCIFER Now go and find These ridiculous souls It’s time to humiliate Heaven CHOIR We will make you proud, Your Highness! We’ll create the most terrifying chaos In the history of Heaven and Earth LUCIFER Good. Now get on with it. SCENE 3 ALIVE AGAIN 11 (On the market square. Our 3 geniouses are now back on earth in their new personas. Bastianel stands before the three, providing some final instructions. Before Bastianel starts to sing, there will possibly be a coreographic scene inspired by Chaplin’s Modern Days to demonstrate how the world today shows itself to our Geniouses.) BASTIANEL So now You’ve been caught up to date You’re current with culture and aware of present state Know now Our door’s always open (gestures skywards) And I am nearby too Off you go then ‐‐best of luck to you! (Bastianel abruptly disappears, leaving our 3 each holding a piece of paper with their new ‘job descriptions’.) WILDE (reading in disgruntled disbelief) Secretary General He sounds disagreeable I once said God punishes By answering our prayers MOZART (reading, rather insulted) Singer songwriter I guess then I’m a troubadour? JOAN (merely skimming the paper) Banking leader 12 Whatever this is— God will be there! • Archangels Michael and Zadkiel
Archangels Michael and Zadkiel Michael is the great Archangel of God who has committed himself to the protection of the Son's (and daughters) of God. He carries a sword of Light to cut humanity free of the burdens of darkness that it sometimes carries. He is the Prince of Archangels and defeated Satan, who chose to turn from God and oppress mankind. He is the crusader of the Christ who will protect the soul of man and bring the presence of peace to those who choose to ask his help. He champions the Will of God and not the lower will of humanity. Yet with Love He will help humanity find the Divine path and protect the souls of those that chose it. Zadkiel is the Archangel of the violet flame. Zadkiel is the angel of the flame of forgiveness and of spiritual freedom. Love is the essence of all angels and Zadkiel, in love, will help mankind free themselves from the bonds of pain and karma they have created. The violet flame cleanses humanity of the accumulated debris of hatred and helps re-establish freedom, by transmuting mankind's mis-creations into the pure essence of Light that flows from God. We can choose to understand and feel the spiritual qualities of these two of God's messengers. We will ask for God's blessing through these angels and search for understanding of our role in God's creation. Archangel Gabriel I want to share some experiences I had with Archangel Gabriel. I had received wonderful upliftment and I believe we can all receive that.

  • Lithuanian Religious and Ceremonial Terms of Semitic Origin: the Phenomenon of Azazel
Etnolingwistyka 29 Lublin 2017 I. Rozprawy i analizy DOI: 10.17951/et.2017.29.257 Rolandas K r e g ž d y s (Vilnius, Lithuanian Culture Research Institute) Lithuanian religious and ceremonial terms of semitic origin: the phenomenon of Azazel The article deals with the so-called phenomenon of Azazel, i.e. the scape- goat icon, examples of which can be found in the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language and in dialectal sources. Its relics are also traced in three-day Shro- vetide rites before the Lenten fast, which begins on Ash Wednesday (Shrove Tuesday in Lithuania), and in the Easter feast from Piev˙enaiin Samogitia (the histrionic so-called “Easter Jews” vigil on the night before Easter). Using different methods of investigating cultural realia, i.e. cross-cultural comparison and linguistic analysis (based on the inner and external reconstruction (or historical) methodology), two main types of religious terms of Semitic origin registered in the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language and dialectal sources are identified: (i) Hebraisms with neutral or hereditary connotation; and (ii) pejoratives or semantically modified words with an anti-Semitic background. The paper also explains the origin of the xenophobic elements of the Easter feast, the way it has been celebrated in Piev˙enaiuntil today. Key words: Azazel/scapegoat phenomenon; religious terms; ceremonial terms; Hebraism; pejorative; semantically modified words Introduction: a short prehistory of the origin and purport of the scapegoat or Azazel icon The mythonym of Azazel or Hazazel (Azael, Azozel)1 is traditionally explained as an appellative of one of the chiefs of the 200 fallen angels 1 The exact meaning of the proper name is ambiguous: 1.

  • Angelology Angelology
Christian Angelology Angelology Introduction Why study Angels? They teach us about God As part of God’s creation, to study them is to study why God created the way he did. In looking at angels we can see God’s designs for his creation, which tells us something about God himself. They teach us about ourselves We share many similar qualities to the angels. We also have several differences due to them being spiritual beings. In looking at these similarities and differences we can learn more about the ways God created humanity. In looking at angels we can avoid “angelic fallacies” which attempt to turn men into angels. They are fascinating! Humans tend to be drawn to the supernatural. Spiritual beings such as angels hit something inside of us that desires to “return to Eden” in the sense of wanting to reconnect ourselves to the spiritual world. They are different, and different is interesting to us. Fr. J. • Azazel Historically, the Word Azazel Is an Idea and Rarely an Incarnate Demon
Azazel Historically, the word azazel is an idea and rarely an incarnate demon. Figure 1 Possible sigil of Azazel. Modern writings use the sigil for the planet Saturn as well. Vayikra (Leviticus) The earliest known mention of the word Azazel in Jewish texts appears in the late seventh century B.C. which is the third of the five books of the Torah. To modern American ( וַיִּקְרָ א ) book called the Vayikra Christians, this books is Leviticus because of its discussion of the Levites. In Leviticus 16, two goats are placed before the temple for selection in an offering. A lot is cast. One Goat is then sacrificed to Yahweh and the other goats is said to outwardly bear all the sends of those making the sacrifice. The text The general translation .( לַעֲזָאזֵל ) specifically says one goat was chosen for Yahweh and the for Az azel of the words is “absolute removal.” Another set of Hebrew scholars translate Azazel in old Hebrew translates as "az" (strong/rough) and "el" (strong/God). The azazel goat, often called the scapegoat then is taken away. A number of scholars have concluded that “azazel” refers to a series of mountains near Jerusalem with steep cliffs. Fragmentary records suggest that bizarre Yahweh ritual was carried out on the goat. According to research, a red rope was tied to the goat and to an altar next to jagged cliff. The goat is pushed over the cliff’s edge and torn to pieces by the cliff walls as it falls. The bottom of the cliff was a desert that was considered the realm of the “se'irim” class of demons.

  • Theology of Supernatural
religions Article Theology of Supernatural Pavel Nosachev School of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, HSE University, 101000 Moscow, Russia; [email protected] Received: 15 October 2020; Accepted: 1 December 2020; Published: 4 December 2020 Abstract: The main research issues of the article are the determination of the genesis of theology created in Supernatural and the understanding of ways in which this show transforms a traditional Christian theological narrative. The methodological framework of the article, on the one hand, is the theory of the occulture (C. Partridge), and on the other, the narrative theory proposed in U. Eco’s semiotic model. C. Partridge successfully described modern religious popular culture as a coexistence of abstract Eastern good (the idea of the transcendent Absolute, self-spirituality) and Western personified evil. The ideal confirmation of this thesis is Supernatural, since it was the bricolage game with images of Christian evil that became the cornerstone of its popularity. In the 15 seasons of its existence, Supernatural, conceived as a story of two evil-hunting brothers wrapped in a collection of urban legends, has turned into a global panorama of world demonology while touching on the nature of evil, the world order, theodicy, the image of God, etc. In fact, this show creates a new demonology, angelology, and eschatology. The article states that the narrative topics of Supernatural are based on two themes, i.e., the theology of the spiritual war of the third wave of charismatic Protestantism and the occult outlooks derived from Emmanuel Swedenborg’s system. The main topic of this article is the role of monotheistic mythology in Supernatural.

  • A N G E L S (Amemjam¿) 1
A N G E L S (amemJam¿) 1. Brief description 2. Nine orders of Angels 3. Archangels and Other Angels 1. Brief description of angels * Angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him, though created higher than man. Some, the good angels, have remained obedient to Him and carry out His will. Lucifer, whose ambitions were a distortion of God's plan, is known to us as the fallen angel, with the use of many names, among which are Satan, Belial, Beelzebub and the Devil. * The word "angelos" in Greek means messenger. Angels are purely spiritual beings that do God's will (Psalms 103:20, Matthew 26:53). * Angels were created before the world and man (Job 38:6,7) * Angels appear in the Bible from the beginning to the end, from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation. * The Bible is our best source of knowledge about angels - for example, Psalms 91:11, Matthew 18:10 and Acts 12:15 indicate humans have guardian angels. The theological study of angels is known as angelology. * 34 books of Bible refer to angels, Christ taught their existence (Matt.8:10; 24:31; 26:53 etc.). * An angel can be in only one place at one time (Dan.9:21-23; 10:10-14), b. Although they are spirit beings, they can appear in the form of men (in dreams – Matt.1:20; in natural sight with human functions – Gen. 18:1-8; 22: 19:1; seen by some and not others – 2 Kings 6:15-17). * Angels cannot reproduce (Mark 12:25), 3.

  • Dark Mirrors: Azazel and Satanael in Early Jewish Demonology
Orlov Dark Mirrors RELIGIOUS STUDIES Azazel and Satanael in Early Jewish Demonology Dark Mirrors is a wide-ranging study of two central figures in early Jewish demonology—the fallen angels Azazel and Satanael. Andrei A. Orlov explores the mediating role of these paradigmatic celestial rebels in the development of Jewish demonological traditions from Second Temple apocalypticism to later Jewish mysticism, such as that of the Hekhalot and Shi ur Qomah materials. Throughout, Orlov makes use of Jewish pseudepigraphical materials in Slavonic that are not widely known. Dark Mirrors Orlov traces the origins of Azazel and Satanael to different and competing mythologies of evil, one to the Fall in the Garden of Eden, the other to the revolt of angels in the antediluvian period. Although Azazel and Satanael are initially representatives of rival etiologies of corruption, in later Jewish and Christian demonological lore each is able to enter the other’s stories in new conceptual capacities. Dark Mirrors also examines the symmetrical patterns of early Jewish demonology that are often manifested in these fallen angels’ imitation of the attributes of various heavenly beings, including principal angels and even God himself. Andrei A. Orlov is Associate Professor of Theology at Marquette University. He is the author of several books, including Selected Studies in the Slavonic Pseudepigrapha.
