MINUTES of MEETING of LORN & THE ISLES COMMUNITY SAFETY FORUM held in the THE LECTURE ROOM, OBAN FIRE STATION, SOROBA ROAD, OBAN on THURSDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER 2010

2. MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON 25TH MAY 2010 The minutes of the meeting held on 25 th May 2010 were approved as a correct record.

3. ALCOHOL AND DRUG PARTNERSHIP PRESENTATION (LUETTE ROBERTS) Continued to the next meeting.

4. FERRY STANDBY Iain MacFadyen updated the meeting on ferry standby issues and advised that Luing Ferrymen have been offered new contracts, with the regulatory 90 day notice expiring in October.

At present night calls impinge on the ferryman’s rest period which affects the following day’s cover, and there is no out-of-hours cover

5. ISLAND AIR SUPPORT SYSTEM Paul Connelly provided a combined short presentation on Island Air Support and Island Emergencies (Items 5 and 6).

The fire service cover 13 islands, and dealt with 300 Island incidents during 2010. They will provide air support to 6 islands (Luing, , Lismore, , , and Jura), providing landing lights, etc., for the air ambulance when available. The Fire Board are confident of September timing for air support for Luing, with trials being held throughout October, and will then roll out to the other islands. These 6 islands with resources and vehicular access are currently being looked at, but others can be added later if required. A Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed by the Board and is awaiting official signing off by the Chief Executive.

6. ISLAND EMERGENCIES Combined with previous item.

7. POLICE UPDATE Chief Inspector Bland reported that the area is well resourced and that performance is better now, with more detection and lower violence rates. Happy to work with other on a town fireworks display to minimise conflict.

Events where resources will be challenged are the Labour Conference to be held later in the year and the Mull Rally in October. Mike Robertson highlighted a planned 6 day Orienteering event next July which will require parking for 1,000 cars and Kenneth MacIntyre highlighted the Centenary celebrations next year.
