1. OPIS CUG The China University of Geosciences (simplified Chinese: 中国地质大学; traditional Chinese: 中國地質大學; pinyin: Zhōngguó Dìzhì Dàxué; colloquially 地大; ) is a key national university directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. It consists of two campuses, one is located in Haidian District in Beijing, the second one is located in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei Province. Beijing Campus The Beijing Campus is located in the original campus of former Beijing Institute of Geology, Xueyuan Road, with a concentration of 8 famous universities and academic tradition.[1] [2] Wuhan Campus The Wuhan Campus is located in No. 388 Lumo Road, Wuhan, with a scenic view and a large campus area. It has a larger annual enrollment and provides more available majors other than geosciences.[1] [2] Its Yifu Museum is known for housing China’s top ranked displays of dinosaur fossils, mineral and rock specimens. China University of Geosciences is a national leading university under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education, one of the first group university listed in the national "211" Project. China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) boasts a campus which covers an area of approximately 1.13million square metres with the scenic East Lake by its side, adjacent to national high-tech development zone and "China Optical Valley". China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is pround of her teaching staff consisting of 349 professors, 586 associate professors, 9 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 of International Higher Education Academy of Sciences, 4 of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, 2 of Russian Academy of Engineering, 10 specially- appointed academicians, 6 specially-appointed professors of “cheung kong scholars Scholars”, 124 doctoral supervisors. There are 106 experts enjoying the special governmental subsidy of the State Council and 6 enjoying the special governmental subsidy of Hubei Province. China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) with the strong competitive edge in geology, resources, environment, and geological engineering technology combines the science and engineering academic disciplines with the social sciences and management academic disciplines. There are 22 faculties including science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, education and philosophy. 62 undergraduate academic programs are authorized to grant bachelor's degrees, 118 academic programs are authorized to grant Master's degrees, 37 academic programs to grant Ph.D. degrees, and 13 engineering academic programs to grant Engineering Master's degrees, and 3 academic programs to offer post-doctoral floating centers. Now China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) of has a total enrollment of over 44,400 students, including full-time undergraduates, master’s candidates, doctorial candidates and 20,460 overseas students. In terms of campus construction, CUG is actively involved in socialization reforms of its service system such as carrying out the construction plan of garden university, trying to improve the taste of a cultural campus, and giving a full swing to the educational function of the campus environment. The collection of the CUG library is extensive. With its more than 820,000 books and more than 10,000 electronic periodicals on hand for students, it is an ideal resource. There are over 670,000 Chinese books, 150,000 foreign books, and 1500 periodicals. It 3

also has an easy system to use Database of the collection, making finding sources simple. An Automatic Management System and Electronic Reading Rooms have also been built, creating an up-to-date multi-media environment for students. The library also has digital resources that amount to 1,024G, 2 minicomputers, 10 severs,150 computers. There are more than 30,000 specimens on display in the Yifu Museum of CUG, including nearly 2,000 rare samples of fossils, minerals, and national treasures. The museum is quoted as having various functions:" A national treasury of geoscientific specimens," "A national education base for popular sciences," "A national education base of science and technology for adolescents," and "A national education base for patriotism." The project for Yifu Museum was approved by the Ministry of Education and financially sponsored by Shao Yifu Fund. It has a floor area of 10,000 square meters. The new museum also incorporates ten major subject exhibition areas, such as "General geology" ,"Gems","The Formation and Evolution of Earth," and "The Origin and Evolution of Living Creatures." National Tourism Administration has approved Yifu Museum to be the 4A level national scenic spot, this is the first and only 4A level natioianl spot in Chinese universities. "Digital CUG" project was initiated in 2000. The campus network (www.cug.edu.cn) covers all the buildings on campus, facilitating Internet visits by the faculty, students, and the staff. CAI, electronic teaching plans, CAD, and multi-function classrooms are becoming gradually more popular. The digitalization of teaching, research, and management is also on the rise. CUG is qualified to be one of the experimental universities of the national modern distance education. Now it houses nearly 20 distance education centers off campus with more than 4,000 students.
