10 DIVISION I Cross Country DIVISION I 2001 Championships Highlights Title Belongs to Buffaloes: Colorado, making its 31st appearance in the championships, earned its first title by the slimmest of margins November 19 at Furman. The Buffaloes, led by three finishers among the top 20 individuals, edged Stanford by one point. Three-time defending champion Arkansas was third. Colorado had been the institution with the most team appearances without winning the team championship. The Buffaloes were second in both 2000 and 1994, and have posted 11 other top- five finishes. Jorge Torres played a major role in Colorado’s win, finishing second in the individual competition. He was 19 seconds behind champion Boaz Cheboiywo of Eastern Michigan. Also contributing mightily for the Buffaloes were Dathan Ritzenheim, the top freshman finisher in the race in fourth place, and Ed Torres in the 18th position. Cheboiywo, who had been unable to train for the last two weeks before the championships because of a hip injury and sore Achilles’ tendon, broke the course record by seven seconds. A great read. It was way too early for a serious ante, but not so early that the contenders could afford to ignore it; they had to burn precious energy reeling in the pair. John Brant. Squires wanted to keep Beardsley as removed from the race excitement as possible. DK Eyewitness. Books about crazy dedication obsession to pushing oneself to greater achievements. Paperback —. I think he and I have a special bond. Instead Beardsley soon began a descent into drug addiction that brought him perilously close to dying. That tore it, he thought; the best he could do now was crawl in. Their shadows are still with them, but they are unarmed. Dewey Decimal. The two men ran neck and neck for the final nine miles of the race, with Salazar pulling ahead in the end and winning by just two seconds. At age 34, he resumed training. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Dec 09, Derek rated it really liked it. So they camped out in the house of a town matron. But one day in , Salazar picked up a tract that his father had sent him. The result of this style is that the story of the marathon and the story of the two men's lives are told simultaneously throughout the book.

This year’s field includes reigning USATF marathon national champions Emma Bates and Brogan Austin, and five U.S. women with personal records (PRs) faster than 2:30 (including two of the top 10 fastest women in U.S. history). “This year’s elite field highlights an exciting resurgence we are seeing in American distance running right now,” said Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “We have a deep pool of American runners who are coming to Chicago to run fast, and we cannot wait to welcome them in the fall. We could see new American records and a lot of personal bests in October.” American women’s field With a PR of 2:20:57, Hasay leads this year’s field as the second-fastest American woman in history and the fastest to ever run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
